February 16, 2014 DREAMing!

And ............. we are back! We had an awesome time on the Dream. Felt like a huge family get together as there were some of last year's cruisers and some of our favourite CMs on board as well. :thumbsup2

We got back rather late on Sunday due to a snowstorm in Frankfurt/Germany , so the plane left late and we barely made our connection to Austria. No fun to come home to a lot of snow after having wonderful and sunny weather in Florida. ;)

:cool1: Sorry about the snowstorm..I well remember our winter weekend getaways from Boston to WDW, returning to snow and delayed flights. Very happy you were able to make the connection!

Christine, you have no idea how happy I am that I can put you back on the list of cruisers. :woohoo: This is going to be so much fun.
And I will pray that you will not be affected by vertigo. All these things are so new to us .... we usually are not affected at all. (Well, we are affected by time flying by, but that is it. :rotfl2:)

Karin, you are so sweet!! I am thrilled to be back on the list - mostly because I get to spend time with some super wonderful folks! :grouphug: :cheer2:

Christine, can you eat oven roasted chicken, baked salmon and grilled steak? They usually offer these as "healthy" options. They usually come with either rice or a baked potato and some veg. Tom and I both opted for those for our pirate's menu as I do not like it.
I am sure the chefs can work something out for you! I really would love for you to experience all the dining rooms.
Stupid question. Will it make you sick if your tablemates eat something you are sensitive to?
Last year we had someone on the table next to us who told everyone on the tables around him not to order shellfish as it would make him sick. It was an awkward situation. ;)

Oh, yes, I can eat the chicken and steak as long as it doesn't have a lot of pepper, any garlic or other spices. Disney chefs have always been fabulous and made it very easy for me to eat - it just needs to be simple. Kids meals work great! Most of that food is very plain. ::yes::

And absolutely no to my tablemates food bothering me! As long as I don't eat it, all is well! Deathly allergic to fish, but it would not bother me in the least if anyone else had some. That would be very awkward - the smell must have really bothered him...but I would have asked to be seated just with my family/friends if possible.

We are going to have so much fun, Karin!!! :cool1:

:lmao: You are most welcome! :goodvibes

I tend not to post on the rest of the Dis anymore, but will be active on meet threads for the cruises I am on. And I just can't kick my habit of doing a website for each cruise! :rotfl2:

I love your websites! The one photos of Captain Henry yawning is so fun. :lmao:

To be honest I had pepper added lateron, as the salmon was pretty bland. ;) And I am happy your tablemates won't affect you.

Christine, the guy with the allergy on one of our cruises WAS sitting at another table. He just DEMANDED that no one on the tables around him would eat any shellfish. I found it pretty odd, that we all had to agree to HIS wishes.

That is totally absurd! What would have happened if you had not obeyed his command? What if the people at the tables around him were specifically looking forward to enjoying shellfish on the cruise? I know my hubby would. It is one thing to not contaminate someone else's food with something to which they are allergic. I understand that. It is entirely different and unacceptable (IMHO) for that person to DEMAND that everyone at adjacent tables not consume that food. Sorry, but no one at the next table is going to dictate my dinner selections!

You know, we were kind of shocked that he had chosen to eat in the dining room in the first place if he was THAT allergic.
And while Tom and I stuck to "his rules" that day, some of our tablemates did not. I just looked it up and we didn't eat in the main dining room for the next two days and the last day HE was not there, so it was only affecting us one day. :rotfl2:

Yes, that's what I mean. Anyone with an allergy severe enough to cause them to "demand" that everyone around them not eat certain foods (and really I question the validity of their "requirement") should NOT be eating in an MDR . . or Palo . . or Remy . . or probably not anywhere but their own stateroom. :rotfl2:

I hope I never run into that person on a cruise. Perhaps they decided never to do another. :cheer2: :lmao:

Well, it's 350 more days to this one, folks! :sail:

Somehow I missed the fish allergy guy!!! It would not be a problem with my family as they don't eat fish BUT I would have been VEY upset with that request !!!

I don't eat fish either, BUT I would have a problem with someone at another table dictating what I could and could not eat. While I would have no problem being considerate of someone at my table and being careful, that is going too far.

I am glad to hear I was not the only one who found it quite odd. This was the first (and thankfully only) time we had a "request" like this.
I mean one of the things I really look forward to is trying new things. And that IS what we usually do on these cruises. Having to think about the guy on the next table when you order was a bit odd. :lmao:

Karin - What did your server say about all this? If my server were to inform me that I could not have something that was available from the menu because someone at the next table said I could not, he would receive ZERO in gratuities from me! :(

We had a different server than he had and he just rolled his eyes. He was very sweet, as he offered to have something sent up to our room if we missed out on anything during dinner.

It was somehow funny, as we thought this was rather common in the US. That is why I asked Christine if she would be affected if anyone ate something she was not allowed to on her table.
We have not come across anyone with severe allergies here in Austria, but so many of our US friends suffer from them, so I/we thought this was common procedure. :rotfl2: Only when we thought about it lateron, did we find it quite odd. :lmao:

FE question! Rosie and I would like to have one made - I have read mention of eBay, but have never even looked at eBay, never mind purchase anything. Any ideas how we find someone reputable? Thought I read of some crafters on the DIS - wonder if they make FEs and how would we find these wonderful people? :goodvibes

Thank you! :flower:
