February 11, 2012 Eastern Caribbean on the Disney Magic***

Just wanted to say hello to all. I just joined the thread as we just booked our Feb 2012 cruise. Seasoned cruisers (just got off the Magic in the Med last Saturday). Three of us right now. :dance3:

How was the Med cruise?? I'm wanting to do that with just me and my DH.

Hi,
We are from Montreal Canada, booked our 1st cruise, we can't wait. We will be flying in on the 7th, will reserve the Pop star for the few days before the cruise and do WD, and after the cruise we will be staying (not sure yet), but will do DW again for a couple of days until our flight back on the 21.
Hope it won't be too much...lol, Im travelling with my husband and my 2 boys 3 and 5. They are sooo excited (me too) but seems like there is a lot of planning that needs to be done and there is really too much info on these boards...

Question: for formal night... do all the men wear tuxs, my husband is not a suit guy.

Can't wait to meet some families on the cruise!

It was wonderful and very excited and very exhausting. We saw everything there was to see. It was hard to "relax" though since it was so heavy on the port days and things to see and do! Recommend it to all though! We went in a big "horde" of family of friends. Had 9 people with us. It was a trip of a lifetime. We spent 4 days before the cruise in Barcelona too. It was a lovely city. Wouldn't recommend the AC Diplomatic Hotel that Disney uses though. Had pretty bad customer service and made some big $$ errors on our bill.

You will see all kinds of different things on formal night from very very dressy to flip flops and shorts. I have only seen one gentleman in a tux and he was having formal pictures taken with his family. Looked like perhaps a family reunion of some sort. We usually recycle the home coming, graduation, dance type dresses for my daughter (she's 16 now) and I bring a nice cocktail dress. Suits for the boys. Nothing too fancy but we shine up nice!

I agree you will see everything. My husband wore a tux just because he owns one and gave him a reason to wear it. I also put my boys in tuxes but they wore them with converse tennis shoes. I wore a formal dress and then a cocktail dress for semi-formal. We had a lot of fun dressing up and it gave me an excuse to go shopping. lol

We did WDW 4 days pre-cruise this past February and had a great time.

I just did a quick count of the people that have joined the meet thread so far.

There are 32 family/groups. From those that indicated the number of children that will be sailing I counted 20 boys and 18 girls so far!!!

How many of you are interested in joining the FE? Thanks to BlessedmomofBoys (i think it was her ??) for volunteering to keep track of that.

Counting the days until we are sailing again :cool1:

Mom3girls2000 (Max) has started a list. Shoot over a PM to her if you want to participate with room info and names/ages/gender of kids etc. I wonder if we could make like a google doc that everyone could access so we weren't constantly having to email info back and forth.

I've started looking into trip insurance today. Anyone have any recommendations for insurance companies?

Just sent a request to join the group. Thanks for setting that up!

For travel insurance I would recommend squaremouth dot com You can do a side by side comparison of tons of different policies and coverage. Bonus it is way better coverage and cheap than the disney insurance!

Happy 4th everyone!

Hi, everyone, I just want to say that I am very excited about the cruise, and I don't understand why so many other people don't share my Disney enthusiasm.

I had to go to the dollar store to look for something for my Mom and Dad, and I figured that since I was there, it couldn't hurt to browse to look for anything Disney, when I met a young Mom pushing a stroller doing the same thing ;). Since I obviously don't have young kids, and I was chatting with her little son about the new "Cars movie" lol, she started telling me about how he loves it even though he hasn't even seen it (yet;)) and I was compelled to tell her about how much I experience Disneyitis, and about the cruise, and she sounded as excited as I felt lol.

Anyway, I just wanted to invite y'all over to Fb and join us on the February 11 Disney Magic Cruise (Closed Group) page that the computer-savvy :surfweb: blessedmomofboys so kindly and thoughtfully set up for us!

Check out some of our chats, questions, and answers, and just all-around general increasing excitement:woohoo: as we get closer to our sail date.:yay:

I volunteered to create a list of us, for an FE group, or even just to meet up on the actual cruise and say hi face-to-face, so if you'd like to be part of that, send me a private-message here or on the Fb page, or an email.

I am SO looking forward to this cruise, I actually cannot wait ;)!

TTFN:thumbsup2

When you say you wore a formal dress, do you mean an evening gown? 'Cause I do have one from a few years ago, I'd have to try it on ... but I could force myself to go shop for a cocktail dress lol.

So there's a formal night AND semi-formal night? AND a pirate's night?

Hmm ... so many reasons to go shopping ;) lol.

Yes, there is a semi-formal, a formal, and a pirate night. Yes, people will wear full out formal dresses. People will also be wearing sundresses. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just wear what you are comfortable in and what you can pack. A lot of people plan to take special occassion photos in their formal wear and coordinate things like Chirstmas card photos (so like everyone is dressed in red and green holiday formal) or everyone comes in with their Hawaiian print shirt on or whatnot. You will see a little of everything.

I agree with what you will see for both formal and semi-formal. We personally like to dress up. My husband also owns a tuxedo, so he will be wearing that. My younger son (11) will wear a suit(with bow tie). My daughter (13) and I both have evening gowns. On the semi-formal the guys both wear suit and ties and my daughter has a shorter dressier dress and I might where a pantsuit (though I might buy a new dress).

You'll see alot of people in Pirate outfits for Pirate's Night pirate:, but just as many are in curise casual. My daughter has a dress she got at The Morocco Pavilion in Epcot and she likes to wear that. (It's getting a bit short so she would like to pick up another one when we goto WD in aug. - just for this purpose)

You do see people in shorts and tank tops for dinner, but Disney itself asks for passangers not to: They state the following - though some people do not follow it:
The dress code for dinner changes nightly. Check the Personal Navigator—the Disney Cruise Line daily newsletter detailing all there is to see and do—for more information while onboard. However, you are requested to not wear tank tops, swim wear or shorts for dinner.

So its all up to you and your family party: - My only real suggestion enjoy your dinner time with your family and have fun - Don't let the little things get in the way of ruining that!! :thumbsup2

I l ove the ability to book ahead for your next cruise and get that 10% discount. I have a dvc too so it works on point purchases or on cash purposes. Its nice to know you have that next vacation already lined up AND get a deal! Love it!

Couldn't agree more. We saved a ton. Also, if you book while on the cruise and need to change the date or type of cruise later you still get the discount and you keep any onboard credits you might have gotten when booking while cruiseing!! :woohoo:

One more thing i wanted to tell you all. In case any of you are celebrating anything special on our cruise, there is a local company you can use to get really cool gift baskets. I ordered one for our last cruise and they did a great job. We have to fly and dont have a lot of extra room. They will personalize with whatever pop, juice, beer, wine etc.. and chips, candy etc... for kids or grownups. You tell them what you like and they will put it togehter and it will be delivered to your cabin. Let me know if you want more info.:goodvibes

I'd love the info since right now my family packs an entire suitcase of waterbottles and wine!!!

Yes, it is a fabulous thing to do. Always ALWAYS keep checking on the price of your cruise after booking too ... as that discount can add up. In addition to the 10% onboard booking, we also saved about another $800 per state room by checking the price frequently. With 4-5 rooms per trip (my extended family tends to travel in a large horde) that savings really adds up.

I'd like that info too, Jen, please.
