February 10, 2007 7-Day Western Who's coming?

We decided to make plans last minute so booked our first cruise...ever. Didn't get a good room but it will be a getaway for us and our son (8) and daughter (5). I'm usually an obsessive planner so I've already have scoured the Disney travel books and websites in the short time since deciding to do this. It seems like the perfect last minute plan...very little to worry about as far as reservations. We can survive without the major excursions. :)

My big fear is seasickness. It's why we've never been on a cruise before. I read that the waters can be rough around Castaway Cay...more often in Jan & Feb. Does that mean rough seas in general for some of the trip?

I'm thinking daily dose of Bonine and bringing the patch. My DH is physician so we'll see if he'll support my idea of preventative medicine vs reactive treatment. :)

Any advice?
thanks!

Hi Cami - Welcome aboard . . . what part of Minnesota are you from? We are about 20 miles north of Minneapolis.

Not sure about the seasickness . . . we are bringing Bonine and the wrist things . . . thinking about also looking for ginger capsuls . . . DD would get sick in the car when she was young, or at least we think she did . . . we have now realized that she gets sick when she drinks fruit punch so now I'm not sure if every time she was "car sick" if she really had fruit punch . . . :confused3 so time will tell.

Is the crud going around out there? DS had 102 fever :worried: for 5 days . . . ended up with bronchitis . . . five kids out in his class . . . 6 other parents at work had kids out with high fevers . . . seems to be a 5-6 day thing . . . We are praying everyone stays healthy. I'm washing my hands so much !!!!

Having a real hard time focussing on work . . . Way to much to get done so I can be gone for 8 days!!! (12 including weekends!!!!!) REally need to focus . . . oh well party:

Hello to everyone. Have been scanning the board since booking in early January. We did the same week on the Magic last year (same ports, except for Costa Maya in place of Coz). We had a great cruise, except the weather was cool.

Safe travels...

Welcome aboard . . . Last year, how cool was cool? Could you still wear shorts? Then again, were from Minnesota, we will wear shorts when it is 40 degress . . . :cool1: though I will pair it with a sweatshirt verus a tank top :bitelip:

LOL:rotfl2:
I was able to reschedule the hair appointment!!! Good excuse to get out of work 1 hour early on Wednesday . . . . ;) then get home to finish packing. Already told DH that everyone is on their own Thursday night before we leave. Everything has to be done prior to then cause I am getting a manicure and pedicure no matter what. :cutie:

You and I are on the same schedule!! Though I get my hair cut on Tuesday. The plan is everything packed by Tuesday (hoping it actually happens by Wednesday), the house cleaned on Thursday morning, and Thursday afternoon it's off for the manicure and pedicure. After which, I'm not lifting a finger!!:rotfl2:

The Prestige
Stick It
Step Up
Arthur and the Invisibles
The Wild

The fantastic show schedule remains:
Let the Magic Begin

Remember the Magic

Noticed some Pirate accessories (hat, hook, vest, etc.) at Target yesterday. Check the $1 section at the store entrance.http://www.wdwinfo.com/images/smilies/pirate.gif

We did our first cruise last minute two years ago. Everything went fine. In some ways it was more fun. I'm a big planner too but it was nice for once to just let things unfold.

I too was worried about seasickness. The only time I had any "problems" was just leaving port. We went to the early show in the Disney Theatre. I snuck out and grabbed a Gravol and went back and was fine. Never needed anything for the remainder of the trip. Nice to have your personal physician along for the ride!!

Welcome Mark and Darlene! My DH and I were also on the same Magic trip as you last year. We are hoping that the weather will be better the second time around. Thanks for the info. I know that last year they added several other movies because of the weather. We saw Eight Below three times!

Laura

:rotfl2: Last cruise I couldn't get my DH or DS to go and see National Treasure with me even though I knew it would be right up their alley. After I saw it I made them go with me to see it. I dragged them to see it. They both really enjoyed it and my DS went back by himself and watched it three times altogether!!

Still none here . . . Just sent off an email to the TA - he said he received my inlaws stuff today, and it hoping for ours tomorrow . . . He indicated that those of you who have received them already, must have booked directly through DCL. . . those with TA usually take longer . . . what a pain . . .

We did book directly with DCL.

It was overcast and around 60 degrees in Key West, so we had jeans and sweatshirts on. It was not much warmer than that all of the way down into Costa Maya, and it was cloudy and rainly just about everywhere, including Castaway Cay, which was really disappointing! The water was way too cold in the ports, although a few people did brave it, but not that many. We did enjoy those heated pools! We didn't need much sunscreen. I am really keeping my fingers and toes crossed that this trip will be much better!

At least we aren't alone in the waiting game. This is our 3rd cruise, we always used a TA, and we have always gotten our docs about 3 weeks before we sailed. Maybe tomorrow.....

Hi everyone! Thought I would check in while I have the chance. Seems this is about to be the busiest 10 days of my life. :hyper: :drive: :laundy: :hyper: :laundy: :drive: :hyper: :scared1: :faint:

Still no docs up here.. was thinking I should start digging up the snow by front door.

Hee hee- Hinsok/Ocean Breeze... we will all be having our toes painted at the same time! That is my plan too. For once, I want to be all packed 2 days prior so that I can sit back and enjoy the Eve of Vacation. We'll see if that actually happens.

Did you guys see that there are recent western navigators posted? I admit I printed them out and squinted half the night pouring over them.
Maybe all that squinting will balance out the "internet stare" I've developed! Let's hope so! :3dglasses

Talk to you all soon!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :lmao: :lmao:

The October ones had much better resolution. I printed those out to read over. I looked at the new ones to see if there was much different, but they were a bit hard to read. I tried printing out a page or two, but not much improvement. I just wanted to get an idea of when margarita / martini / wine tasting were to see if I really wanted to rush over and buy tickets before they sell out. According to the Navigators there's lots of chances to be very tipsy on at sea days!!!:rotfl:

My best friend and I are going tonight to get our hair done. We're shooting for next Wednesday for the manicures and pedicures.:cool1:

We got ours on Friday and we used a TA. :confused3

I love that movie and went and bought it as soon as it came out.

Oh yes, we've had it. Had to cancel poor DS's b-day party he was so sick with it. It sounds like the exact same thing your son had. One of the elementary schools in our city had 240 kids absent for several days. That's over 20%. Somehow DD didn't get a bad case of it. I feel like we should quarantine ourselves before the trip to keep anything else from hitting!!!

The weather thing is good to be prepared for as well. I didn't really know what to expect on a cruise except that we've been to the Bahamas, Caymans, and Jamaica around this time of the year and have often had less than the best weather. More often cooler, cloudy stuff on the weeks we've gone. But it's just luck of the draw. We could hit beautiful weather, too. I'm packing for anything. Attitude is focused on having fun no matter what...it's a getaway! :cloud9:

By the way, we live west of Mpls in central MN. My sister lives in Inver Grove Heights. We're "practically" neighbors!

Well I'm off to finish planning that rescheduled b-day party, pick up lots of seasickness preventatives (I want to try the ginger capsules, too), and start checking things off my list for next week!

thanks to you...and those who responded for the advice/help!
have a great day! pixiedust:

:rotfl2: We all sooooo get that!!!

Just received an email from our TA. He received one packet yesterday, but has not received the second (our's and my in-laws). He called Disney, received the tracking info and found out the following:

AN INCORRECT ROUTING AT A UPS FACILITY CAUSED THIS DELAY;THE PACKAGE WAS MISSORTED AT THE HUB. IT HAS BEEN REROUTED TO THE CORRECT DESTINATION SITE

It is scheduled to be delivered to him tomorrow, then he has to send them to us . . . . :sad1:

We got our cruise documents!! :woohoo: I scheduled our haircuts for next Tuesday, now all I have to do is figure out what to pack! How will I ever concentrate at work?!
