Feb.4,2006. Who else is sailing?

We plan to do brunch at Palo. Maybe dinner too. Also some night life is planned. Last time we were too tired from the days activities to stay up real late. The pub night looked like fun. I saw the ast part of it and wished I would have see all of it.

As for the excursions, it really depends.

On the Western cruise last year, we did only Disney excursions and they are great. You get off the boat and there is usually a bus waiting to take you to wherever you need to go. It's easy and convenient. The cost, however, is usually a lot more than you'll pay for doing something on your own. I think that my family and I paid something like $35 or $40 a person for a shore excursion to the Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman. We could have done the same thing on our own for a $15 - 20 cab ride plus a modest fee to use the beach.

I think that, this time around, we'll go with a combination of Disney and self-guided excursions. There are enough DISboard postings here for us to determine which are easy to do on our own and which are more challenging. We also recently got the latest version of the Passporter book and I'm looking forward to seeing what the authors have to say about Disney vs. self-guided excursions.

As for what we're thinking about doing, the one regret that we have from last time is not really participating in the evening activities. We plan to (hopefully) grab some naps in the afternoon so we can go out without conking out. Our days were so full that, when we laid down to put our children to sleep, we invariably fell asleep ourselves!!! Maybe we can all apply peer pressure on each other.

Did you guys see that, after drydock in October, they are going to add a giant movie screen on the Magic? They're going to offer Movies Under the Stars -- folks can gather on deck to watch movies after dark. It sounds really cool.

I truly have no idea yet. I see all the posts about the excursions, and I wonder if we should do one or not??? For a first time cruiser do you suggest excursions, or should we just meander around on our own? Do adults do excursions sans children, or is it good to bring them along?? I need suggestions, please. :)

What is pub night? Sounds fun! :drinking1

Pub night was the only thing night activity that my wife and I did last year. It was held in one of the ship's bars and they served British ales and lagers. They also did a really funny and kind of bawdy show, with cast members playing certain roles in songs and skits. What made the show funny was that the cast members in it were not part of the ship's entertainment staff, just CM's looking for act goofy and have fun.

Hey MarcyInFlorida,

Welcome to our own little space where we are anxiously awaiting on Feb 4 sailing date. You must have booked WELL in advance.

Do you have children? My DS will be 5 and my DD almost three when we sail.

We live near DC so a week away from a Washington winter is a real treat. If you're in Orlando, I guess that you won't be worring where to stay the night before the cruise, huh?

Hey guys,

Trolling the DIS Boards, I found a link to someone's home video of a week aboard the Magic. If you've been on the Magic before, it's a trip down memory lane. If you have not been on board, it's a wonderful introduction to a truly Magical ship.

Check it out here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=852077

PS -- For those of you who are counting down by days, not by months, July 18th is a special day -- Day 199 until the cruise (for us, it's a big deal when the countdown goes from 200 and something to 100 and something).

Hey Mark, Thanks for doing the math. Under 200 days sure sounds better. Next month it will only be 6 months to go. Happy 4th of July.

Just wanted to post in and say I'm jealous that you all have so many post. :) We just booked the Feb.11,2006 sailing and there was only 1 post. Hopefully we are not the only ones on the ship. Can't wait this is our 4th Disney cruise first one in Feb.

RAC,

You are always welcome in our area. I imagine that things will heat up as we get closer to the date. And tomorrow is a big day because if you count the days like I do, it will be 199 days until we sail tomorrow. It's big news when then number goes from beginning with a "2" to beginning with a "1".

And just remember that you'll be smiling on February 11th when we are crying -- turning the beautiful ship over to you!!!

Bump/ Only half a year to go. Maybe 6 months and 1 week sounds better. Anyway it will be here before we know it. Hot, Hot here, over 100 and humid. Rather be in the 80's and drinking a Carib in St thomas.

Steve,

I hear you. It's hot here too in Washington, around 93 and humid. It's still better than over 100 and humid. Just think how nice it's going to be when we all can escape winter for a week and soak in the tropical breezes in the Eastern Caribbean.

Have you guys looked into any shore excursions yet?
