Finally, I get to start my TR. This is something that I have been looking forward to. I am a proud military wife and we just made a PCS move to Savannah, GA. This is why it took me so long to start this report. Our cruise was orginally for May as soon as the kids got out of school. The Army made us break our plans when they told us we would PCS in March. So, we rescheduled our cruise for the middle of the move. While on the cruise, the kids had been asked several times where they were from....
Well, since our household goods had been picked up already and we had not moved anywhere, they really did not know what to say. Good thing I was always there to explain the situation. I am glad my kids were never asked this question on stage, I know my 9 yr old son, he would proudly say something like, "well, we do not have a home, right now we are homeless...but my sister was born in Germany." I would be saying, "whos kid is that anyway?"
I will start by saying that we had a very MAGICAL 7 night cruise. We had a blast. No, I am not going to write about every thing that happened, just the highlights. If not, you would be here for YEARS reading everything we did on our cruise.
our wonderful cast:
Me (Becki)
DH (Tony)
DMom (Linda)
DS - 14 (Hunter)
DS - 9 (Jonah)
DD - 6 (Destiny)
Saturday Day 1
We had stayed at a hotel about an hour away from Port Canaveral. So, we all awoke on cloud nine
knowing today was boarding day! We made a quick stop to get my Hunter's hair cut then back on the road! As we were traveling, we were passing all the DCL buses that were taking the people to the ship from the Disney hotels. I know these people thought we were crazy. Every time we would pass one, I was smileing at them and my kids were waving at the bus. We were so excited...dont know why seeing the DCL buses made it more exciting....kinda weird now that I think about it.
Then, we saw it, the Magic. I was getting teary. I can not imagion what my Mom was thinking as she saw it. This was her 1st cruise (ever).
Boarding had already started and was very painless. I signed us in as Tony signed the kids into to the clubs. Then, we walked onto THE MAGIC.
Notice the matching Mickey Mouse Polo shirts (that was my idea and yes, my family has gota love me). I went to change our palo reservations and dining to early seating. Both were easy to do - walk in walk out. We tried to go to Parrot Cay for lunch but it was a 30 min wait so we went to Topsiders.
After lunch, Mom watched the kids in the mickey pool while Tony and I went to the rooms. Tony, Destiny, & myself were in a room. Dmom, Hunter, & Jonah were in a room together. We decorated our room for Destiny (she was turning 6 in 2 days). And we left goodie baskets for the kids and Mom.
HINT: Do not overpack "goodies" I had worried about the kids having "suprises". They were so busy during the cruise that they never played with the toys. Basically, I packed "goodies" and then I repacked then to come home. It really was a waste. A few are ok, but when you try to pack a little something for 3 kids for 7 nights....it was too much!
Destiny did love her room decorated. I would say that was NOT a waste!
We took the kids to the sailaway party.
The boys were not interested. But, Destiny LOVED it! She stayed until it was over.....man, it seemed like forever! She was front row dancing and catching all the action!
Most people left after the CM's left and handed it over to the band. Destiny still was all into it and stayed until the band was finished. Afterwards, a family came up to us, it was bkfor and his family. He had a daughter Destiny's age and they had chatted on the dis boards. They met again quiet a few times in the club and we even did the dolphin encounter with them (thats to come on cozumel day).
We had 1st seating and tonight was Parrot Cay.
After dinner we went to the Walt Disney theatre to see ALL ABOARD LET THE MAGIC BEGIN. We always got to the theatre early so we could walk in when the doors opened. BEWARE: people will knock you over to get to the front seats. we always sat in the first few rows because I am a "picture taker" (meaning I drive my family crazy taking pics of EVERYTHING). Since you can not use flash in the threare, I needed to be close. There was 1 family whom every night pushed and shoved thier way to front row. The kids were rude and hit people in the back of the heads, shoved people and were very disrespectful. We never ran down the stairs in the theatre and still got first few rows. One night, we were not going fast enough and the mom of this certain family pushed my daughter out of her way so she could run down to the front. WOW....humm....no wonder why the kids act the way they do. Back to the show, it was great (as all the shows are on DCL).
Oh, Hunter did not go to the show with us. He left for the teen club and we never saw him again. No, just kidding. It was a rare experience to see him. Every night the waiters would ask where is he? We did make him eat with us on formal night. If you have a teenager, on a cruise, they vanish! Seriously, you will find them crashed in bed the next morning. The teen club does not open until noon. For those of you without teens, the reason for this is because they stay out until 2 or 3 am. So, they all sleep until noon!
I will be adding a few pics during this TR. But, if you wish to see more, I have uploaded about 500 or so pics from this cruise on my yahoo360 page.
