Fe stolen

Just off the Fantasy Easter week deck 7 midship was returning from guest services and as anyone who has sailed on the dream class ships you come around a corner . Well low and behold there is a young boy standing at our door pulling our magnets down and tossing them on the floor talk about being caught red handed. He apologized and swore he would never do it again:confused3

that sad part is the fish extender goes outside, and its the thing that would make me the most sad if it went missing (i'm sure my kids would be equally sad). People take so much time creating their FEs that it is so sad for someone to steal or ruin them just for fun. I'm buying mine....but still...a $50 FE is not something anyone would want stolen.

I guess I will just have to take my chances.....but it still makes me sad
Well for sure.
My wife spent so much time making ours for our first cruise, I know she would have been so sad if it got stolen.

That is the big reason we decided to personalize ours, and zip tie it on.
We're so glad that nothing happened to ours, or to the two people across the hall from us who also had FE's.

Does anyone have a picture of their FE? Im participating for the first time this November and I am not sure what it should look like? How Big? Wont people bump into it if its just hanging there with stuff in it? :confused3

I cant wait to sail and have some fun. This will be our second DCL cruise. I had no idea about the FEs. It sounds like so much fun and I know my DD6 will love it too:thumbsup2

Here's our by our door. the door area is recessed a bit from the passageway. So, unless whatever is in it is REAL big, it shouldn't be in the way.

There's good FE info on the FAQ sticky above.

Check out your meet thread for more info about your particular cruise/FE

We had along with numerous other cabins had our magnets stolen in the middle of the night on the Magic last October. :scared1: We suspected kids running around unsupervised. We had numerous cabins all at the same time complain to guest services. I suspect the kids do not know that DCL has a lot of cameras on the ship. Well at dinner several CMs handed us our magnets along with all the other affected guests but gave us no explanation of what happened. I would guess the guests who stole the magnets are now on the not invited back list with DCL.

That's good to hear. We're going to take magnets for the first time next week and while they aren't expen$ive we really don't want anybuddy messin with 'em.

Thanks a bunch!! That's what I need to know. Good Pic. It definately gives me ideas!!! :-)

Wow. I never thought about the actual FE being stolen. Ours is in the process of being made and it will be personalized. I mean, really, who will run off with an FE with the name "Klusmeier" on it? Not a very popular name!

I would try to secure it with something anyways. I think most of the times they are taken by people who are just trying to be a pain in the rear

We never had anything stolen (that I'm aware of), but we did have a case of "musical magnets." They were decorating doors along the hall...and they did find their way home. As to the kid caught red handed--I think I would have escorted him to GS or to his stateroom for a little chat with his parents!

I had a FE gift stolen outside of my door on the Dream. They were nice big Nightmare Before Christmas plushes and I only knew because I ran into the gifter later who asked me if I had received the gift and I said I hadn't.

that is just so sad, people take so much thought and consideration into what they will give for the FE exchange and then lugg it in their suitcase...and then go up and down halls to distribute them.......................and then for them to get stolen and never even get seen by the other participant!!!

Very sadly, it does happen. Thankfully it hasn't happened to us, but I have heard of it happening to others.

We typically take one of those computer cable ties to attach our FE to our fish.

Just to be cautious -- If you receive a special magnet as a FE gift or buy a special magnet - do NOT put it on the outside door. Assume that it will probably sail away and not be seen again.

I've read several reports of people who had bought / received special magnets and they disappeared from their door.

We've always had cabins so far forward that we've never had any issues with anyone messing with our FE or gifts. We had so many wonderful magnets this trip (sailed 4/7 on the Fantasy) that you could hardly see our door! (Thank you, DIS'ers!!) DH used a zip tie for our FE last cruise in 2009, but didn't this trip. My only issue this trip is that I HAVEN'T FOUND OUR FE since we returned! When we aren't sailing, I keep it in our kitchen closet and it is normally filled with DD's (7) crayons, markers, glue, etc. but I have not been able to locate it since we returned. The kids said we packed it on our last day! I hope I find it....my mother made it for us and we love it!!! :(

A lot of you have mentioned using the twisty ties to secure your FE to the actual fish. At the risk of sounding like a complete goof - can you explain to me how you do this? It appears most strings for the FE simply hang over the fish. Do you simply use a twisty tie to make the string tight so it cannot lift over the fish?

We are taking our first Disney cruise in June and I'd like to do what I can to minimize the risk :lmao: I better not catch anyone messing with the FE! :scared1: Sadly I know these happen and I say mean people - um well you know! :rotfl2:

Thanks,
Heather

It's more a matter of using the zip tie to connect the FE string to the arm that holds the fish away from the wall. Imagine using a band-aid to keep a string against your finger.... like that.

While someone could still technically cut it off and walk off with it, I'm guessing most people don't walk around with scissors or want to spend the time it would take hanging around suspiciously outside someone's door. :)

We brought our FE in at night, I figure a lot of mischief happens when parents turn in and little (or not so little) ones stay up and entertain themselves

We zip tie ours and I have safety pinned jingle bells to the bottom corners of it. It will make a little noise if some unwelcome hands touch it. We have had some of our magnets moved around, but nothing stolen. Our cabin was right outside the edge last cruise, most of the kids would come write silly messages on our white board. It annoyed my daughters, but I enjoyed watching them from the peep hole. Next year our room is outside the vibe.

REALLY, don't forget to zip-tie your F/E to the fish!!!
We custom made our F/E and it has our Family Name as well as our first names on it, which are fairly unusual, so we NEVER thought that anyone would ever take it. Maybe some of the gifts - it's not nice, but it happens - but not the whole thing.
Well, we were unpleasantly surprised to discover that we were wrong. On our Halloween MR cruise, someone stole it Halloween night!!!
I wrote & posted on the fish a note to the F/E thief, saying that our F/E was HANDMADE, had our NAMES on it, & that we WANTED IT BACK!!! with a P.S. that Karma is a Bitc#!!!!
We went to our cabin steward - who passed around the word to all of the cabin stewards that he knew, and also went to Guest Services. Not that we thought that G/S could do anything, but just because I needed to vent at how sad I was.
The G/S crew was so nice! One cast member walked the halls looking for our F/E with me in hopes that some pranking kid just switched it's place, then later in the day, she delivered a decorated shopping bag for us to use as a replacement F/E that was filled with gifts, including a big stuffed Doug (from Up) for our son! (It happened to be his birthday that day!!)
AND the kicker full of Pixie Dust is that 2 days later, it mysteriously appeared back on our fish during dinner!! Our cabin steward says that he has no idea how or when it got back - and we were so so happy!! Now zip-ties go in our F/E kit - as well as in our first night gifts to DisBoarders!!
