Fe stolen

It's more a matter of using the zip tie to connect the FE string to the arm that holds the fish away from the wall. Imagine using a band-aid to keep a string against your finger.... like that.

While someone could still technically cut it off and walk off with it, I'm guessing most people don't walk around with scissors or want to spend the time it would take hanging around suspiciously outside someone's door. :)

Thank you! :flower3:

Yep, I ordered zip ties and I'm even including them in the FE's we are giving out as well now.

Thanks,
Heather

One idea I read on the Disboards for magnets is to put a label on the backs of your magnets that reads something to the effect of "Enjoy your new magnet! This one has been stolen from Stateroom XXX!" :rotfl: I think probably misplaced (ie: being moved from one stateroom to another) is a bigger problem than them actually being stolen, but I thought this was a pretty funny idea!

Thank you! I was trying to picture this too, and couldn't tell from pictures if there was an 'arm'. Perfect. :)

I did zip tie our FE on our last cruise on the dream. They sell the colored ones at the Dollar Tree which I also gave as FE gifts. Prompt removal of your gifts is another way to ensure they aren't stolen. I know after our first cruise we left the gifts to watch them pile up but this also made it difficult for anyone to put anything into them. Our stateroom hostess promptly help me cut off the FE zip ties the morning of demarkment as I forgot to pack accordingly.

I gave out the same zip ties. I was thinking more for the luggage than for FEs. A pair of nail clippers would work to cut it off.

REALLY, don't forget to zip-tie your F/E to the fish!!!
We custom made our F/E and it has our Family Name as well as our first names on it, which are fairly unusual, so we NEVER thought that anyone would ever take it. Maybe some of the gifts - it's not nice, but it happens - but not the whole thing.
Well, we were unpleasantly surprised to discover that we were wrong. On our Halloween MR cruise, someone stole it Halloween night!!!
I wrote & posted on the fish a note to the F/E thief, saying that our F/E was HANDMADE, had our NAMES on it, & that we WANTED IT BACK!!! with a P.S. that Karma is a Bitc#!!!!
We went to our cabin steward - who passed around the word to all of the cabin stewards that he knew, and also went to Guest Services. Not that we thought that G/S could do anything, but just because I needed to vent at how sad I was.
The G/S crew was so nice! One cast member walked the halls looking for our F/E with me in hopes that some pranking kid just switched it's place, then later in the day, she delivered a decorated shopping bag for us to use as a replacement F/E that was filled with gifts, including a big stuffed Doug (from Up) for our son! (It happened to be his birthday that day!!)
AND the kicker full of Pixie Dust is that 2 days later, it mysteriously appeared back on our fish during dinner!! Our cabin steward says that he has no idea how or when it got back - and we were so so happy!! Now zip-ties go in our F/E kit - as well as in our first night gifts to DisBoarders!!

What a great story! So glad you got it back!

We were on the Mexican Riveria Disney Wonder March 19 this year. We didn't find that anything was stolen however one of the people in our FE group got their FE stolen off their fish. We did use a zip tie on ours and wonder if that helped. I did notice that at night there were several preteens wandering around the decks and playing with the elevators and wondering if this is the time when things go missing. Everyone in our group delivered our gifts early in the morning and nothing went missing.

Also, I did make some extra magnets of my favorites just in case they went missing and when they didn't we shared them with our deck mates around us and they were completely thrill with the gifts, so that's a possible idea for you all. This takes the stress off of worrying about it the whole trip. Minimal cost for peace of mind.:)

We brought our FE in at night, I figure a lot of mischief happens when parents turn in and little (or not so little) ones stay up and entertain themselves

Our magnets were wiped off our door between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. :sad2:

Just got off the Magic and sad to report that we had some really cool magnets taken from our door. They were FE gifts that someone had gone to the effort of making for us! But, unfortunately, our ship had a very large group of kids that were largely unsupervised (Kentucky Group - this is you!) One evening, when I heard a bunch of them outside our door again while I was trying to get my kids to bed, I opened the door to politely put out the "Please do not disturb" sign. They were "looking with their hands and not with their eyes" as my mother used to say. The next morning my children noticed that about 5 of our magnets were missing. So, as I said to my kids, not everyone has the same value system as our family and we just have to accept it and move on. :sad2:

after reading everyones posts I've decided that I will not be showcasing any magnets I may recieve from my fellow FE participants............I will hord them in my luggage until they make it safely to my fridge ;)

And one more thing.........do these parents not notice when their little junior magically has more stuff?? Where do they think it comes from?

If you want to display your cute FE magnets, you could put them on your door on the INSIDE of your cabin. That way you can see them and enjoy them, but someone would have to break into your room to steal them.

Just a thought!

It's a shame you didn't have a camera to hand to take a picture of them and then threaten that if the magnets were gone in the morning, GS would get a picture of them.

The Stateroom number sticker on the back does sound like a good solution for Staterooms that receive unexpected or unsolicited magnets thou.

Ex Techie :)

I favor the "This magnet is stolen from room XXXX" on the reverse side. :goodvibes

Although, I have put my room number and name on the front, on some magnets.

I am learning from my 14 year old DD that there are a *lot* of parents who just don't care/notice. She has one classmate who got a lip piercing. Her Mom didn't notice for 6 weeks. There are kids at her school who have gotten written up over 50 times (they brag about it) and the parents do nothing.

My youngest was bullied by a kid last year whose parents were like this. He was in trouble nearly every day, going to the office, etc (in 5th grade). He was even expelled from our school because a friend of his brought a BB gun to school and they were shooting it (in 3rd grade). No one can explain to me how this kid was allowed back at our school. The parents never did anything until my DH spoke up one morning when taking DD to school. He was in front of her in line (we had had to deal with her crying nearly everyday for *months* with the school doing nothing).

DH is 6'5" and can be scary even though he's the sweetest guy in the world. He explained very politely that he knows in the beginning of he year it was partly my DDs fault (she has a hard time keeping her mouth shut when she's angry, but she had long since stopped talking at school at all), but that this kid really needs to leave her alone. And if he steals her stuff again (which he and his cronies were doing) my DH would have him arrested. All of a sudden the parents were paying attention and threatened to have DH arrested. When told DH did nothing illegal and showed all the stuff the bully had done all year long, the school at least finally paid attention. The kid has never bullied DD since. And all his cronies backed off too.

But the parents still think 'Junior' can do no wrong. :(

We use the zip tie too. It doesn't need to be so tight, just enough to keep it on and to be able to cut it off.

I heard kids right outside my door and opened it once to find two tween boys filling our FE. They said "don't come out!" And I said "oh sorry!" and shut the door. It was so cute. Those gifts were personalized. They were obviously making sure each gift got in the right pocket. Good job mom! :wizard:

I would also bet that alot of the stuff doesn't make it back to their parents room. They may think it's "cool" to take it, but dump the evidence before returning to mom and dad.

On our October Dream Cruises, we and others in our FE group had some of our gifts taken - when we got back and started talking, it was very clear that many of us were missing stuff which we knew the other person had delivered.

Thats so sad :sad1::sad1:. no child should have to be afraid of going to school. There was a time that my oldest child would have problems with another girl picking on her in the 3rd grade. I instructed her to pray for the girl and to ignore her and not be rude back. I told her that not everyone is as fortunate enough to have the home life that my children have. That the girl may get to much negative attention or no attention at all................fortunatly for us, with help from her teacher, this worked and my DD has no more of these issues..................I know theses things don't usually go away so easy

We use a zip tie also. I have had magnets taken off my door on 2 different cruises. On our cruise in Dec 10, we had our DVC magnets stolen twice. (2 cabins) Luckily the DVC desk was sweet and gave us new ones. ( they didnt go on our doors after that.)

I have a magnetic memo board on our door too. I had a not so pleasant saying on it.. but I had to laugh... it was spelled wrong. :rotfl2:
