i know every group is different, but approximately how many families are in each group?

I agree, 10-12 seems to be the norm lately. My first two cruises we had 12 families in each FE, my Alaskan cruise this August we have 10 families. Personally I would not be comfortable with more than 12 cabins but I've heard of groups having 15-20.

Thanks. I was a little worried that I'd be doing gifts for 100-150 people. Whew!!!

It depends on how your Fish Extender group(s) are set up. I've been on cruises where the list was broken out to smaller groups of 15 rooms. You could sign up for one (smaller) groups or multiple ones. I've also been on cruises where the FE group stayed as one large group (we had like 40 rooms).

Also, gifts could be one per room, or per individual. Or, some people did one for the adults and individual ones for kids.

It depends on how your particular group sets things up. Some groups just say "whatever" as to how many gifts. Other dictate minimum/maximum prices ranges. Others are adult only, or kid only.

Our first 4 night cruise we had 15 rooms in our FE groups. On our second 3 night sailing it was only 5 rooms and people had the option to be in multiple groups. I thought 5 was perfect for a short sailing!

We had 25 staterooms on my first cruise and it was too many but no one else was complaining so we bit the bullet and went ahead with it. I haven't participated again since that experience but maybe I will again one day.

If people aren't happy with the rules make your own group there are always people looking to join. You can set it up and call it quits when you've hit your max people.

Also, just ask the group before joining how many cabins they plan to allow per group. There's nothing wrong with not doing it if it's going to make you feel stressed and uncomfortable. Also, there are usually multiple places where groups form for the same cruise. Here, they are typically done in the cruise meet threads. I also know that FB typically has groups as well. Different groups my have different rules.
