FB enforcement meltdown--that was sight to witness!

I do agree with you to a point. Sometimes it's the easiest way to diffuse a situation which could become ugly.
As far as so what if a difficult person gets to use their late fp, I would have to disagree. Their is a time window clearly stated on the fp to return by. We all have to conform to this rule. If they can go on a ride after their time window, then what's the point of putting a time window on it? Can't have one rule for some guests and different rules for others on it.
OK ... what about the guest who gets there late because they planned badly and got stuck behind the parade. They ask nicely -- totally expecting to be told "no" -- and the CM lets them on anyway. That's "pixie dust", right? But in your example, "can't have one rule for some guests and different rules for others". So ... no more pixie dust. No is no. No late entry for a late running ADR. No late entry for having to make an emergency potty stop for a child. No late entry for a BBB session that ran long.

There are always going to be exceptions. Every situation is different and every CM is going to handle it a different way. This one particular CM in this one particular case decided to let it go and let the guy ride the ride. The next time the guy starts yelling about a late FP, the CM may not be as accommodating. My point was that calling security because someone is angry about not being able to use a FP causes a scene that is not necessary. It doesn't punish the rude guest; it punishes his family and everyone else who's watching it happen. It spoils everyone's day and in the scheme of things, it's just -- as someone upthread said -- a ride at a theme park.

If the CM had decided to stand up to him and call security or a manager or another CM, Disney would have backed them up. It's the CM's call, and that CM at that moment decided to let it go.

That doesn't speak to a culture of rudeness at the Disney parks that is just bubbling under the surface and must be managed by Disney before it explodes. It was just a rude entitled tourist.

:earsboy:

~I think the child was visibly upset and the CM did not want to escalate things further. Ideally, I really wish there was more consistency with FastPass enforcement, but I understand the human element, and the desire to make someone feel special, especially a child, even if their parents are rude. :( :goodvibes

It's my opinion in situations like this, security should be called and the offender should be escorted out of the park. Disney needs to quit coddling the 'I'm so special, rules don't apply to me' crowd.

I can't remember if it was at Disney or one of our local parks but I witnessed security being called in a similar situation. They let them on the ride but when the ride returned security was waiting for them. Their restraints were still locked so they weren't going anywhere.

It is not uncommon at Disney when there is a situation such as this to allow the people on the ride to defuse the situation and they will be met by Security at Unload and escorted out of the Park.

I've learned it doesn't help to talk to people like that. They'll get even more upset. Instead is usually try and cheer the CM up :) it's amazing how rude people can be at the 'happiest place on earth'

Like I said it doesn't always help but embarrassing some of those types can often lead them to look at themselves and see how they are acting. I'd rather that then have them berate the CM just doing their job. I stick to FP times so why shouldn't they? Don't know how many times I am EARLY for FP and they don't let me on and ask me to kindly step to the side. It's usually just a minute or so but I don't kick and scream and I don't expect anyone else to either!

Don't know if this is possible, but maybe what should have been done is suspend the FP privileges on the offender's ticket. I should think the system is smart enough seeing as though it can tell when you have the right to get another FP in a given day.

I understand and more power to you for continuing to call people out on their attitudes. I've just had one too many "frak yous" for my liking!

Thank you for information, that is interesting!

We watched a couple (kids in tow) just unleash on a poor girl at Big Thunder. They were not aware of the time limit and were beyond upset.
"It's YOUR JOB to blah blah blah..."
"I shouldn't have to read the fine print....."

And in the end, they won. She just relented and let the family on. I'm sure she just wanted them out of her face.

We couldn't believe how upset they were, how mean they were and generally just so up in her face and ridiculous. When we walked by her I gave her a very sympathetic look and she just rolled her eyes. Poor kid. I imaged her having this same coversation many times a day.

I thought the same thing in October except they let the family on after a few moments. We had a similar incident where we didn't know the rules of FP changed in March, but my dad gets very vocal and well it worked for us and we saw the sweet side of the one in charge. But still I understand where they are coming from because if you don't know the rules changed before hand, it is frustrating and stuff can come up before that hour you have to rush back to the ride for.

Cast Members should be allowed to carry bear spray to deal with :furious: guests.

Have you ever seen this happen?

Yes. Mot only have I seen it happen, but I have friends and relatives who work Attractions (including as Coordinator) and these have been discussion items.

The people are allowed into the queue and by the time they exit the ride there is a Manager and a few uniformed Security Officers waiting to greet them. It is much quieter that way.

I think we just solved the mystery of missing guests from HM(thread from yesterday)!

The ironic thing to me is that a couple years ago we threw away our FP twice when we weren't able to make it back in time. There was a time printed on our ticket, we were at the other end of the park or eating (trying to go with the flow of a three year old) and time would have been too tight. It never occurred to us to try anyway, let alone create a fuss. Only when we got back did I see on these boards that they were flexible about the time (a couple years ago)

And then people wonder why customre service is a lost art.

When I see behavior like this, I'm reminded of the episode where Bart got an elephant.

When he released the "pet" into the elephant preserve, the pachyderm started head butting all the other elephants. When Bart asked the ranger why he was doing it, the ranger responded,
"Well, some elephants do that to introduce themselves, some do it to establish dominance, and some elephants are just jerks".

Anyone who can refer to Stampy when talking about Disney guests gets an A+ in my book. :thumbsup2

Now, this is an interesting concept. But just imagine what would happen when they found out the machines were no longer accepting their ticket. Then they would really abuse the Cm at the machines.

What I would give to witness this sweet form of justice after watching someone berate a CM.

It's such an opportune time to wave and save, 'Have a magical day' with a big smile. :wave2:

It amazes me that people think they are "above" the rules. And they shouldn't have to read the fine print? That is so ridiculous. And then to take it out on the CM who is only trying to do her job.
These people should grow up and follow the printed rules.

Because we've been trained that if you scream long and hard enough you usually get what you want. People have been trained that the "customer is always right" and in this economic condition retailers and businesses will do just about any thing to keep their money.

Be truthful, how many of us have gone into a department store and Demanded some thing? I see it all the time when I worked at Sears. forgot store policy most women know now all you have to do is make a fuss, ask for a manager and you get what you want.

Why should disney be any different?
