I liked em all, they all make me cry. I think Deer Hunter had
the most impact but Apocalypse Now was really good too.
I think Full Metal Jacket was about more than Vietnam; that
just happened to be the setting. It could have been filmed
during the Iraqi adventure we are going through now and is
about the horrors of any war.

One of the most striking things I have ever seen. It left an incredible impression on me.

Being able to take Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness and make it into a a movie such as Apacolypse Now without losing any of the undercurrent and themes makes it one of my favorites. The scene with the helicopters flying in formation while playing Ride of the Valkryies is an amazing shot. It also has one of my favorite movie lines "I love the smell of napalm in the morning."
The Green Berets is also a great movie. I have seen it dozens of times. Its even better on DVD since they cut so much for the TV runs.
Mel GIbson's recent movie We Were Soldiers is very emotional for me. Not only does it portray the heat of battle but that was my father's unit. He was there and it is hard seeing all those people die. I understood why he doesn't talk much about that war.
I saw it after talking to a cousin who was in Viet Nam. Before that talk I had no real idea of what that war meant to the Veterans and why my cousin was so messed up later. When I was watching the movie I imagined my cousin actually seeing those scenes for real. It has a meaning to me that makes me cry to this day.
