Favorite Vietnam Movie

I'd have to go with We Were Soldiers.

I don't know why.

Maybe it's because it's fresher in my mind than Platoon or Good Morning Vietnam.

Maybe it's because my father was in Vietnam, and I grew up an Army brat, and the movie focused a good amount on the families back home.

Maybe it's because it made me think about my father, who passed away 13 years ago, and I count myself lucky that my father came back alive but so many other men and women my age can't say that.

Maybe it's because this was one of the few movies that brought tears to my eyes.

Maybe it's all these things.

Platoon and Casualities of War both have scenes I will never forget. Is Saving Private Ryan supposed to be during the Vietnam War? I've never seen that one.:)

We Were Soldiers is my favorite. Runners up are:

The Odd Angry Shot (movie about Australians in Vietnam)
Full Metal Jacket
Platoon

Saving Private Ryan was set in WW2. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it.

I haven't seen all the movies, but the one I recall as having hit the nail on the head with some issues was "Hamburger Hill."

Sometimes it's the seemingly unrelated things that get to the root of war stories. The one that comes to mind is the scene where one soldier is upset about how when home on leave, he asked his mother to pass the potatos, but not exactly like that.

There's more to war than the fighting...
