We like unusual souvenirs.

My DW gets a custom silhouettes of our three DD.

I usually try to get a limited edition pin.

What is your favorite unusual souvenir?

My bf and I like to buy art from the world showcase countries. France has original paintings that are beautiful, and last year we found a painting done on bark in Mexico

I have never seen original paintings in France - sounds MAGICAL.

These are in the France gift shop, the one next to the bakery and where the movie lets out. They are on blocks of canvas, and you can see the paint brush strokes. I love them, and they are not very expensive.

It wasn't a souvenir for me necessarily, but when I first started dating this guy many years ago (who I am no longer with), I had a work trip that involved being in WDW for a few days. I went to Epcot, bought an autograph book, and in each country, went to the Kidcot station. I asked the cast members there if they would write 'I love you' or a common phrase you would say to a significant other in their language. They all LOVED it. The girls in Canada especially got a big kick out of it because they couldn't think of anything that was significantly different than what we would say in America, so they just started doodling all sorts of things. I also stood in line for any characters and got them to sign their names. He had never been to WDW so he was so surprised and touched by the gesture, and it only cost me the expense of the autograph book, and it was a lot of fun to do.

We got one of those little handpainted drums in the AKL gift shop. Definitely unique and special.

Just read a thread about 'beaver butt soap' ... gotta get this on my next trip:-)
We love the new 'Mickey' ears that come out each trip. So far, our favourite is the Canadian themed ears with red plaid, beaver symbol, hockey sticks, mountie hat ...
Also enjoy the silhouettes and caricatures we get each trip for DD's.

I do also have a prized caricature of my daughter that we had done on our first trip, and a funny story to go with it. She was 5 or 6 and having a ball on that trip. The caricature was done outside of the gift shop at the Wilderness Lodge. I heard her telling the caricaturist about her favorite tv shows, and all seemed to be going well. While it was being done, I was looking in the windows of the gift shop. The moment I returned to her side, a small crowd had grown, watching the caricature process. I then heard my daughter say (loudly) to the caricaturist, " ... and I itch all over and I don't know why." I was mortified! I blurted out, "Dry skin - it's January and she has dry skin!" Crazy. To this day, "I itch all over and I don't know why" is an inside joke with us.

At Epcot, I've gotten a small woven tapestry at France, Silver earrings, woven belt, and pottery at Mexico, and a troll figurine at Norway. I also have 2 carved wooden boxes from Animal Kingdom Lodge.

We have a Tiki Hut in our back yard and we get something for there every Disney trip. We have 2 wooden wind chimes, each with a hand carved bird on top, from Africa in AK. Last Oct we got a hand carved African mask from there. This week we open the hut and out they go.

My husband and I always get a piece of crystal from the crystal glass blowers (can't remember their names, duh!) on Main St. in the MK. Our very first one was in 1979 or 80, a long time ago. It was a beautiful crystal unicorn with gold trim on a wood look piece of glass. It was marked down to $20.00 because the base had a small crack in it. We couldn't have afforded one without the crack! No one notices the small crack and it is a beautiful piece, our favorite! I also got the rose under glass from Beauty and the Beast, an angel, and a hummingbird. Love them all.

On a trip in 2001, I bought a little wooden topiary in the shape of Winnie the Pooh in one of the shops in England. It's still one of my favorite souvenirs.

I am boring and always buy one of those porcelain Christmas ornaments. My favorite souvenir is a signed David Doss print of classic Mickey and Minnie dolls sitting with a packed suitcase. It's in a hallway between our bedroom and bathroom and always makes me think of Disney. We bought it at the Art of Disney store in Epcot on a day that Mr. Doss was greeting there.

I love this thread! I'm excited to hear interesting ideas :)

I'm not really one to wear a Mickey shirt outside of WDW, so if I want a souvenir I'll use I tend towards the "unusual," I think. One of my favourites: last trip DGF and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary. we did the pick-a-pearl in the Japan pavilion, picked pearls for each other, and had necklaces made. They don't scream disney (well, hers is the Cinderella carriage, but mine is a shell), but I love it and wear it all the time.

we're heading to Sanaa to see AKL for the first time next month. This thread is making me excited to do some shopping there!

We always get a Christmas tree decoration and a large photo album...boring but it's our little tradition

Rose incense sticks from the japan pavilion. 40 sticks in a beautiful wooden box and every so often I burn one. I can order them on line from the manufacturer but there is something special about having them straight from Japan via the world showcase.

DH bought me a bottle of perfume from France for our anniversary in 2010. It always brings me back

I also make a journal for each trip and record our daily activities, funny things that happened, etc. These little books are truly the most special souvenirs I have!

The Japanese pavilion has done well by us over the years. I've bought several yukata, a couple of folding fans ( and yes, I actually use them when its hot!), sake cups and bottle, chopsticks, rice bowls, tabi socks, and DH always gets a few bags of wasabi peas ( we can't get them here).

My favorite souvenirs though are my classic Mickey Mouse watch that I wear every day, and my Hidden Minnie pendant. Its made with Swarofski crystals and looks like a hollow heart shape. But when you look closely, the empty center is in the shape of Minnie's head.
