Favorite Thing about Old Key West

Hearing children run up and down the halls here at BCV made me appreciate the fact that OKW is not a hotel-type set up. The only real noise I heard earlier this week was an occasional door closing by my neighbors, but no kids screaming and running up and down the halls.
I agree!!!!!!! You can still hear the kids running and screaming down the outside hallways at OKW but it not nearly as pronounced because it is open and the sound does not echo and also the hallways are not as long.
The one thing I do not understand at ANY resort ANYWHERE is why parents think it is perfectly acceptable and cute for their little ones to go running down any hallway and screaming, talking very loudly etc. It does not matter whether it be an enclosed hallway like BWV, BCV, VWL and the Disney Deluxe resorts or an open hallway like OKW and the Disney Moderate and Value resorts, it is still very inconsiderate for your neighbors and very inappropriate behavior for children or adults to use while in a resort.

The entire OKW package. They did a fabulous job putting this one together!

All of the above, plus walking past all the PO people waiting for a boat to get on my own often personal boat back to OKW. I feel like a celebrity.

Wow, I never thought of that-feeling like a celebrity. Now I can wonder if anyone might have thought DS and I were last time. We were in the PO line at DTD to come back-got in the wrong line by accident. Actually, there was no OKW line, and when the OKW boat arrived, it was empty. Fortunately, the boat driver recognized DS and me-"Oh, Ma'am! This is your boat here!"
Maybe if we're lucky, someone went home thinking they must have been in the prescence of someone really important at DTD-had their own boat and captain! Thanks-you made my day!

The condo feel...
Having the car nearby, no pain in the neck valet parking
The quiet pools, really nice to just hang out there and read.
The spacious rooms...
The lush landscaping
The spead out feel is a nice contrast to a standard hotel setup, much more relaxing...
All of the DVC resorts I've been to are great, but OKW is my favorite onsite. Vero is my all-time favorite followed by Hilton Head.

After going at least once a year for 10 years, OKW feels like home. When we come through the front gate, the smile on our faces our huge. When we walk into our 2BR, we automatically know where everything belongs. Who gets what BR, where the groceries belong, which chair is mine on the balcony, etc. That's the beauty of OKW. It's not a glorified hotel room, but it's home. It is big enough that everyone has their own space, just like we all do at our own homes. The other resorts are nice and close to the parks but dont have that home feeling.

We like the fact that you can pull up very close to your building. The one bedrooms are roomy and bright. We like having the seperate laundry room to hang up wet bathing suits instead of cluttering up the bathroom with them. We enjoy the balcony with thebig table and chairs. The ceiling fan keeps you cool during "Happy Hour.":D

Yep, that about sums it up! Even those times we do an occational GV, we know exactly where everything goes, and what to expect!

It's good to hear all the good thing's about OKW. Our home resort is BWV and this is the first time we will be staying at OKW. We are having a family reunion at the end of January and OKW was the most logical place to stay with our points. I can't waite but my husband has his doubt's. He is used to the convience of EPCOT & MGM being right at our back door. We are getting a Grand Villa this time and we checked it out this past summer to see what they look like, we were both impressed by this. Can't waite till then.

Greater availability, it's easier to get a room there without as much advance notice as other resorts. It's lower points too.

All the things mentioned here make me realize why I love OKW so MUCH! I love the colors -- especially when it's cold back at home. OKW to me is very "Florida-y" and I love that. The look of the whole place makes me feel safe, relaxed and happy. It's a perfect "home base" for a busy week at the World!

Don't forget the critters -- all the little ducks and bunnies who are so tame my hubby swears they are animatronic. Our kids LOVE these. And don't forget that the pools are always really warm, and the folks in them really friendly. We also love the beautiful water. The canals really are gorgeous.

The meals at Olivia's are great, and I also really like the Conch Flats Store. I feel comfortable browsing there (although I almost always buy something!) The whole Hospitality House area is fun just to "hang out" in.

The only thing I DO NOT like is leaving...

The size of the one and two bedroom and grand-villas. It really makes for a nice vacation. I spend a lot of time in the rooms just relaxing. I love sitting on the sofa and letting the fan and air-conditioner flow air over me while I sit and chill out. I think about doing that before every trip to OKW. I have stayed in a lot of rooms similar to the one bedroom in other places, the one bedroom ranks near the top of all I every stayed. The bathroom ranks as the best I have ever seen and the largest by far.
