What are your favorite recipes for sides to serve when having a BBQ?

Vegetable sides, hot sides, cold sides, salads, etc...

What do you guys like to serve with your BBQ meat?

We have been BBQing the past week & looking for new ideas for sides.

Thanks!

Grilled corn or grilled potatoes.

Baked beans or potato salad.

This one is always a hit.

Broccoli Salad
2 heads broccoli - cut into florets
1 medium red onion - chopped fine
8oz finely-shredded mozzarella cheese
12oz bacon - cooked and crumbled (pre-cooked is easier to use)

Dressing:
1 cup mayo (can use low-fat)
1/3 cup sugar (can use bulk Splenda)
3 Tablespoons white vinegar

Combine broccoli, onion, cheese, and bacon. In small bowl, whisk together dressing ingredients. Pour over broccoli mix and stir well.

Best if refrigerated overnight before serving.

I don't like it, but around here cole slaw is pretty popular.

Pasta salad, macaroni salad, potato salad are all good, I think.

I know for our family (and I am including extended family), I don't know if I would consider them "sides," but usually BBQ is served with baked potatoes, tortilla chips, and then all the fixins...usually we have some cheese sauce in a crock pot, lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, sour cream, shredded cheese, chopped onions.

But, in the summertime, I know that the cooler sides are more popular.

My husband and kids love a good bbq meal! These are some sides I usually make with it.

Cole Slaw
Tomato and Basil Salad
Sweet Potato Fries
Baked Beans
Potato Salad
Jalapeno Creamed Corn Bread

Macaroni salad
Asian coleslaw (not sweet)
grilled smashed red potatoes
grilled veggies
grilled fruit - My SIL loves peaches and I like pineapple

/
Cucumber salad - either traditional with mayo and vinegar or lemon and olive oil.

Macaroni salad. I mix mayonnaise, dill weed, pickle juice, mustard, & Watkins potato salad seasoning for the dressing/sauce. For the salad, I use abt 6 hard cooked eggs, macaroni, celery, green onion, and dill & sweet pickles.

I also like baked beans, corn on the cob, and potato chips.

When we grill we often try to do everything on the grill with the meat.

Grilled veggies, grilled pineapple, and grilled garlic bread are favorites.

Crack open a can of Bush's Grillin' Beans and heat them over the fire so they get a good smokey flavor :rotfl2:

We enjoy the typical stuff with hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill...

Homemade potato and macaroni salads.

Chips and dip, veggies and dip.

Baked Beans. Fresh fruit salad.

Now when we grill steaks, we like to grill veggie kabobs along with them...zucchini, summer squash, onions, mushrooms and peppers. In the spring we like to grill asparagus spears too.

Sometimes we'll grill slices of pineapple.

We also do shrimp kabobs, and chicken.

Thank you for your replies!

I'm so curious about the grilled fruit. Do you just slice them and put them right on the grill? Do you add anything to them?

Rice dressing -- aka "dirty rice", or what the Popeye's Chicken chain calls "Cajun rice". It's a standard side for either fried chicken or pork bbq in South Louisiana.

You can make it from scratch (http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/rice-dressing-), or just use Zatarain's box mix, which is quite good, actually.
Purists always include chicken livers and gizzards, but lots of people these days just use ground pork and ground beef.

I buy a pineapple that is already cored and sliced, we just put the slices right on the grill for a few minutes, to get those nice grill marks on each side. Grilling it brings out the sweetness even more. We don't add anything else.

That loaded baked potato salad looks GREAT!

I don't do 'sweet' with my meats/meals.
Sweet is for dessert.

No grilled fruit here.

Seems that here in the US, everything, even the meats/entrees have to be sickeningly sweet. Like some kind of addiction/obsession with sugar and High Fructose Modified Corn Syrup.

I do a DELISH shisk-k-bob with large diced chicken breast, onions, peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, and large diced half-way precooked (nuked and cooled) potato.

Marinate in PLENTY of oil, salt, pepper, paparika, galic powder, and a dash of chili powder.

I actually do this in a large shallow baking/roasting pan under the broiler in the oven sometimes.

Just server over rice.
