Favorite family vacation?

Our family is a HUGE fan of Williamsburg. Been 3 times and would do so again in a heartbeat. Very affordable as well.

Camping in Virginia - on the way we stopped at Luray Caverns, then we spent a week and visited Monticello, Michie Tavern, Montpelier, Ashlawn Highland and Waltons Mountain Museum. My family loves american history so this was right up our alley!

Oh we loved Luray Caverns! It was awesome even on a 100 degree day, nice & cool 50s. Also did Skyline Drive on that trip. Great times. :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

Our family has always been a WDW family. Then we decided to change things up and went on a cruise. Haven't been back to Disney since. :lmao:

We love cruising. We've been on 7 so far. One with Holland America, 2 with Disney, 2 with Norwegian and one with Royal Caribbean. LOVE IT !!!

We also decided to go to Tennesee one year (2010) and loved it. Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area. We rented a cabin for the week, went to Dollywood (by no means was it Disney) but cute and the water park there. We're taking a break from cruising this year and going back to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg and renting the same cabin (it was beautiful). This year though we're doing a lot of sight seeing, a couple dinner shows, museums, a few things on the strip (mini golf, go karts, etc).

By the look of your screen name, I'm assuming you're from the Pocono area??? Just wondering, because on our way home from TN, we're stopping by to see my mom & sister who live in the Poconos.

I'd love to get more information on the cabin you rent!

Our family's favorite has been an all inclusive in Cancun. We have done that twice and disney twice.

Our fave vacay (surprisingly) was a trip we took last fall to Iceland. It was one of those spur of the minute, super cheap ticket trips. Can't recommend it enough, just spectacular !

How old we're the kids? What types of things did you do?

Cruising and Sedona have been family favorites for us. We were on the Oasis of the Seas in December and it was the most amazing ship.

We're going to Hawaii in June and I have a feeling that will move to the top of the list of favorite trips.

You didn't ask me, but I just had clients travel there over Thanksgiving and they had an outstanding time. They took a jeep tour to see the Northern Lights, swam in the Blue Lagoon, took the Golden Circle tour and visited Thingvellir (site of the beginnings of the world's oldest democracy, where Europe and North America meet and geysers). They also ate puffin for Thanksgiving dinner, but I try to forget about that.

my favourite family holiday is our annual pilgrimage to mecca

just reading this thread has given me some fabulous ideas :goodvibes

I spent my childhood vacationing to the OBX and have to say it has changed a lot- in some good ways and some not so good ways.
I probably would have gone there forever if Hurricane Irene had not ruined our vacation plans in 2011.
We ended up booking a last minute deal to Pawley's Island, SC and fell in love with the place~ ::yes::
We are not a fan of large crowds- hence our WDW visits in early May, late Sept and Oct, and early Sept is a great time to visit the SC Hammock Coast (south of Myrtle Beach and away from the craziness).

We also have enjoyed great vacations to Blowing Rock and Valle Crucis, NC in early June.
Families with young kids really enjoy the Tweetsie Railroad http://tweetsie.com/ they have a Polar Express package during the holidays, and Day Out with Thomas the Tank engine and Friends program too.

Our kids, late teens, really enjoyed the gem mining, the hiking, the original Mast General Store in Valle Crucis, shopping at the outlets in BR, the Linville Caverns, Grandfather Mountain and the Blowing Rock.
Gorgeous views... a standout favorite.

We very much enjoyed a mini-vacation at the historic Fort Lewis Lodge in Bath county, Virginia to celebrate our daughter's graduation.
They have bikes, kayaks, gorgeous views, hiking, fishing, tubing and swimming, a hot tub, fine dining (breakfast and dinner included in your stay and very high quality) :cloud9:
My dream is to stay here for a long weekend with extended family for the PERFECT stress free reunion, but the cost somewhat prohibits that.

Glad to see so many enjoying our Virginia historical vacation spots.
There are so many places a little off the beaten path that are real gems:
Patrick Henry's Red Hill (http://www.redhill.org/visit.htm ) his favorite home and burial place- visiting here is like taking a trip in a time machine as not much has changed in the landscape since he died.

Thomas Jefferson's retreat- Poplar Forest (http://www.poplarforest.org/ )

Berry Hill Plantation (http://www.berryhillresort.com/history.htm )
You can actually stay at this plantation.

Historic Appomattox Courthouse, Virginia- where our nation re-united (http://www.nps.gov/apco/index.htm )
