We are having a baby shower for my neice in a few weeks. For a wishing well we're asking to bring a favorite children's book. Any suggestions??? TIA

Board books by Eric Carle and Sandra Boynton are good for little ones. Of course, Goodnight Moon. Also, for a little older I love "The Giving Tree."

So nice to get books. You can never have enough!

This one makes me cry.

Goodnight Moon. But it's very popular so there might be a lot of other people who pick that one. When I am asked to bring a book to a baby shower, I usually go to the bookstore and try to find a more obscure one so that the mom-to-be doesn't have 10 copies of the same book. I love all of the Eric Carle books. DD does as well :) I would suggest getting a board book because the child can play with it and take it along on trips etc. Have fun!!

The Velveteen Rabbit.. Makes a lot of people cry (adults too), but it carries a very powerful message..

My kids have really enjoyed: Goodnight Moon, The Napping House, Goodnight Gorilla, Harold and the Purple Crayon, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Babies and young kids aren't very gentle with books. The "board" style hold up better than paperback.

ABC by Dr. Seuss was a major hit in our house with the first 3 kids... Big A little a what begins with A.

That one makes me cry too. I tried to read it to DD not too long ago and could not even get through half of it......
Love this book - I used to have it memorized.

My suggestions:

StellaLuna

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The Runaway Bunny

My favorite:
Time for Bed by Mem Fox - My DD loved this book for a very long time

We did this for my daughter-in-law's shower. It's a great idea. Olivia now has quite a nice collection of books for a two week old.

Aunt Annie's alligator...A,A,A

I had it memorized from A to Z when DD made me read it every night, usually at least twice.

Zizzer, Zazzer, Zuzz :)

They have a Puff the Magic Dragon hardcover book out right now. I got mine at Barnes and Noble last year. The illustrations are great. It comes with a CD with the song and at least one other song is on the CD.

My kids really like it and I love it because it brings back memories. They love the songs too.

I forgot to second or third whoever added Sandra Boynton books. My kids all liked this too.

Another favorite of the kids when little was "How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight". It was my first graders favorite when she was small. She just read it too me yesterday and I can't believe how time flies.

We love the Karen Katz books - very interactive.

I also like "Hugs" by Jez Alborough. The only word in it is "hugs" but I add a couple of my own to the storyline. It's really good at getting LO's to focus on what's going on in the pictures and to get hugs from them, too!

Barnes and Noble sells a really cute finger puppet Old McDonald book. It's like a glove you wear with the book attached. It's really fun!

We loved Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. DD was also a big fan of The Lorax by Dr. Seuss.

I can't read Love You Forever without crying either. :lmao:

We love Fairy Boat which is part of the Fairy Houses series. Our daughter loves them all.
