Favorite Childrens Book

Goodnight Moon. But it's very popular so there might be a lot of other people who pick that one. When I am asked to bring a book to a baby shower, I usually go to the bookstore and try to find a more obscure one so that the mom-to-be doesn't have 10 copies of the same book. I love all of the Eric Carle books. DD does as well :) I would suggest getting a board book because the child can play with it and take it along on trips etc. Have fun!!

I agree..Goodnight Moon. My grandaughter loves it
her mommy has read her that book each night from
day one and she is 19mos now and still loves it!!!

There's obviously something wrong with me, because I think Love You Forever is creepy.

I love Dr Seuss.

Q is for Duck is a great book.

Kiss Good Night by Amy Hest and Anita Jeram
Bear Snores On (and several other Bear books) by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman
The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn

Such great suggestions. Good night Moon is a big fav here but I figured lots of people would get that and Brown Bear, Brown Bear. I have a book that my kids really love called "Momma will you love me??"

"The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry and The Big Hungry Bear" by: Don and Audry Wood

"Silly Sally" by Don and Audry Wood

"Owl Babies" I forget the author

"Jamberry" by: Bruce Degan

"More, More,More Said the Baby" by: Vera B. Williams

"Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" by: Bill Martin Jr. and Jon Archambault

"Little Quack"

"Were Going on a Bear Hunt"

"The Little Red Barn" by: Margaret Wise Brown

"The Runaway Bunny" by: Margaret Wise Brown

These are some of mine and my children's favorites. They have all stood the test of time and are favorites of many of the preschool children who have graced my classroom.

More, More,More Said the Baby Vera B. Williams

My son loves this book!

Baby Einstein Alphabooks are awesome. They are 26 little books with board pages featuring each letter of the alphabet.

You can't go wrong with anything by Dr. Suess. My personal favorites were "The Cat in the Hat," "Green Eggs and Ham," and "Fox in Sox." I practically had these memorized as a child. :thumbsup2

:rotfl: Oh, gosh, I was just strolling down memory lane when I read this thread - I had a HUGE blow out once about this book. I shared my opinion as a professional librarian about its literary quality and it turned ugly very quickly. Lots of people love this book - I am not one of them!

Any of the board books that people have suggested are great choices for new babies. I'd also recommend some of the black and white picture books available - babies can focus on those images pretty early.

My all time favorite children's book has been my favorite since I was a wee slip of a girl.
Harold and the Purple Crayon
I think the authors last name is Crockett.

I love the deserving moose and the hungry porcupine.

Never Tease a Weasel...my personal favorite.

Babies Love to look at faces of other babies in books...so if you see any of those, they're a great choice.

Goodnight moon is the best, IMO. Looking on each page for the mouse was a great pleasure to both of my kids.

Just an aside, the town I used to live in (Greenville, SC) has a very cool thing about Goodnight Moon. A high school student had a project he had to do, and he commissioned a local artist to make a bronze "Goodnight Moon" book to place by the fountain of the Hyatt at one end of Main Street, with one mouse. Then along Main Street, he hid the other (how many were there, I forget?:confused3 ) mice for people to look for. We had great fun walking down Main Street trying to find all the bronze mice(they were about the size of a baseball.) I think if you went into the tourist center, they had clues or even a map to find them all. That was really cool!

Another vote for Time for Bed. My kids loved it.

I love "Love you Forever", but I've never really thougt it was a children's book. I've always thought it was a parents book in the form of a children's book.

For toddlers, I like getting the Little People board books. They are not great literature, but my kids always enjoyed seeing familiar faces in the stories and then acting out the stories with their Little People collection.
