Goodnight Moon. But it's very popular so there might be a lot of other people who pick that one. When I am asked to bring a book to a baby shower, I usually go to the bookstore and try to find a more obscure one so that the mom-to-be doesn't have 10 copies of the same book. I love all of the Eric Carle books. DD does as well I would suggest getting a board book because the child can play with it and take it along on trips etc. Have fun!!
They have a Puff the Magic Dragon hardcover book out right now. I got mine at Barnes and Noble last year. The illustrations are great. It comes with a CD with the song and at least one other song is on the CD.
My kids really like it and I love it because it brings back memories. They love the songs too.
I forgot to second or third whoever added Sandra Boynton books. My kids all liked this too.
Another favorite of the kids when little was "How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight". It was my first graders favorite when she was small. She just read it too me yesterday and I can't believe how time flies.
I also like "Hugs" by Jez Alborough. The only word in it is "hugs" but I add a couple of my own to the storyline. It's really good at getting LO's to focus on what's going on in the pictures and to get hugs from them, too!
Barnes and Noble sells a really cute finger puppet Old McDonald book. It's like a glove you wear with the book attached. It's really fun!
That's the one I was going to suggest! It's looking at me from the shelf above my computer. And it makes me cry too! I'm not sure if the book is for the child or the mom!
