Favorite Childhood TV Commercials

Oh, I almost forgot one of the best:

This is your brain, this is your brain on drugs - get the picture.

And of course who could ever forget Max Headroom (or however you spell it)

and also from the 80`s - Off the bridge, off the side of the building, off the scoreboard, off the back of backboard, nothing but net - swoosh!

The marijuana one where the dad catches the son with it and the son busts out with " I LEARNED IT FROM WATCHING YOU!"

Love that one!

Hi, My name is Teddy Ruxpkin. Can you and I be friends?

Glo Worm, Glor Worm, Glo Worm is your good night friend

I found this site while looking for a glo worm commercial

Milk it does a body, milk it does a body good. Pass it on.

Six finger, six finger man alive, how did I ever get along with five

The one I like to sing that no one ever seems to remember is

Nivea, Nivea, Nivea!
From your fingers to your toes,
you've got just one set of permanant clothes...

all sung by a family dressed only in towels.

I remember :thumbsup2 .

The game of life (I remember there was a commercial, but can't quite remember how it went)

Decisions, decisions. Oh, Pay Day - Lawyer's salary, please! Going to have to sell the cattle ranch. How much? Two HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS, aw!

Also the Memorex (I think) one with the recording of Beethoven's Fur Elise playing in the background, no kid at the piano, and the mom saying something like "No, Billy can't come out to play. He's PRACTICING the piano!"

I know how old the Goofster is! I remember all the same ads.

Here are my two favorite"

Dunkin Donuts- "Gotta Make the Donuts"

For the Michiganders in the crowd, who remembers this one-

"Vernors it's a one of a kind soft drink... With a one of a kind taste..."

They were sitting outside a country store and then they start kick dancing.

I may be the only one who remembers that one, but I loved the commercial!

Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear,Fuzzy Wuzzy had no hair. It was soap and after you used it there was a small prize inside.I think I later heard his hair was mold, yuck.

I can't believe I forgot this one in my previous post. Here's one of my "way back" favorites:

Fig Newtons

Big Fig dances around and sings:

Oooey gooey rich and chewy IN-side!
Golden flakey tender cakey OUT-side!

(then something else I can't remember)

The BIG FIG Newton!
Here's the tricky part!
The BIG.
FIG.
NEWTONNNNNNN!!!!

I've been sitting here trying to think of commercials that were memorable to me as a kid, and the only ones coming to mind are from the radio and are for local companies that mainly advertised during Cards games on KMOX, like one of my all-time favorites for a stereo equipment store: "Hi Fi (tink tink--like high piano notes), Fo Fum (boom boom--deep drum)...Hi Fi Fo Fum, exclamation point." Guess you probably have to hear it to get the full effect.

"When you say cheese, say Hautley and smile.
When you say cheese, say Hautley and smile for a while,
For you know you've got the best in the whole midwest
When you say cheese, say Hautley and smile."

"For a hole in your roof or a whole new roof, Frederic Roofing.
Frederic Roofing, 645-2000." I can't believe I've even memorized the blasted phone number; that's how many times I've heard that ad.

The sad part is that at our age, if we don't start writing these things down, we are going to start forgetting them. :thumbsup2

Another commercial that popped into my head is:

"The fry gang is coming so you better be brave, they'll be here at noon and it's french fries they crave" from McD's.

Oh, yeah, and there's also:
"When I bite into a York Peppermint patty I get the sensation of controlling a pack of wild huskies across the Yukon"

or (not quite as long ago, but still)
"What would you do-o-o for a Klondike Bar?"

Oh, I forgot a biggie in my earlier post!

Only California folks will know this one, though: Fred Rated of Federated! They were a series of very entertaining commercials. They featured Fred Rated, and had SNL or Monty Python style skits.

Here's the guy behind it all's site, with a "Best of Fred" video of the best bits from some of his commercials: http://www.shadoe.com/BestOfFred.htm

Ah, the memories of watching UHF stations with those neat local commercials . . .

Chiffon margerine: "If you think its butter, but its not...its Chiffon"

Then they're the old Empire carpet commercial that has had the same jingle for upteen years: "588 - 2300 Empire!"

I know they're one for Nesquick chocolate mix...I can't remember though!

What a neat thread! The 1st one that came to mind was the owl with the tootsie pop. Here are some others:

How about a nice Hawaiian Punch!

Ho Ho Ho Green Giant!

Choosey mothers choose Jiff!

Do these last two still have commercials with these sayings? I really have not noticed!

Here's the part you couldn't remember:

Wrap the inside with the outside
Is it good? Darn tootin'!
Doing the big, Fig, Newton.

How sad that I can STILL remember that over 30 years later! ;)

When it says Libbys libbys libbys
on the label label label
you will
like it like it like it
on your
table table table

Or
2 all beef pattys, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a seasame seed bun!

Not sure about the Jiff, but I know that I haven't seen the Jolly Green Giant on a TV commercial for years. I don't know why...he was an icon.

Here's more:

"Everythings better with Blue Bonnet on it"

and

"I can't believe I ate the whole thing!"

and

"Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz, oh what a relief it is"

Shhhhh!! Keep that on the down-low! (like my son says)

Let's pretend that we're not old enough to remember that one!

Thanks for that, though. Now I can stop straining my brain trying to remember. :rotfl:
