Favor Idea - Is it tacky?

Hi! We're tossing the idea around of having a candy bar. Not like an actual candy bar like Hershey's, I mean like a beautiful table full of hurricane tubes full of candy that is all pink and green (our colors.) We then thought of getting some cute boxes, or those silver tins you see everywhere for people to fill with the candy as their favor. Does anyone think it would be tacky to have 'serve yourself' favors?? It seems like it might end up being pretty pricey once we buy all the candy, so I want honest opinions. You won't hurt my feelings because we aren't even really sure about it yet. Just tossing the idea around ;)

NOO!!! Not tacky at ALL! We did this at my wedding and everyone LOVED it!! It's a great idea! People are still talking about it! Who doesn't love going into a candy shop and scooping out their own candy?? I say go for it! :thumbsup2 At www.groovycandies.com, you can shop by color! This makes it so easy to get candies in your wedding colors!!! Hope this helps!

Here's a Knot bio all about candy buffets as well!

THANKS!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to go look at those websites you both posted. I'm going right now!! :Pinkbounc

Found some COOOOOL stuff. So here's the next question. To keep costs down I was thinking we could get those frosted poly bags that have the twist tie things connected to the top where you fold it down and bend them over to seal the bag (does that make sense?) Then we could make personalized stickers to put on the fronts of them. Does anyone know a good place to find the bags or order the stickers?
Thanks!!!

I think that is an awesome idea. I was at a wedding with the candy bar and people LOVED it! They used a chinese food take out box (the one with the wire across the top). Good luck finding what you want!!

We are having a table with self serve candy too!!!
So far, we're getting...peanut butter malt balls, and caffe latte malt balls, mocha lollipops, butterscotch candy sticks, Haribo raspberries, and habinero lollipops! We got the majority of this candy here http://www.candywarehouse.com/

We got glassine bags here http://www.fancyflours.com/site/xdpy/sf/Paper Goods/Glassine Envelopes/index.html ...and we also got our cake topper at this site too!

We got our labels for our bags here http://www.myownlabels.com/ML111.asp We got the "luxe" design in white and brown.

That's them!!!!!!!! And I can get 100 for $22 which isn't bad - 22 cents per bag. I looked at the chinese food container idea which I liked, but then I felt like our whole theme would have to match the whole Asian thing and I don't think we want that. I also found these stickers (thanks, DisneyDork for the ones you listed too!!)

We like the swiss dots and figured we could do half in green and half in pink and they're only about $9 for a sheet of 12 and $5 for each additional sheet. So the stickers would be about $35 and the bags would be $22. Not bad at all.

I'm so glad I could help! I was thinking, if you really want the take-out boxes, you could just get them to match the theme that you have. That's what we did! For example, if your theme is Cinderella, (just right off the top of my head - this is a DISNEY weddings board. :teeth: ) you could maybe get light blue or white, and put stickers or something like this http://www.kimmyshop.com/images/products/PDCLBD2_med.jpg on each side. Or, since your colors are pink and green, you could get pink and green take-out boxes and alternate them on the table. I think papermart.com has some adorable polka dot ones. You could add stickers to them, too. (I love stickers!) Stickerplanet.com is a pretty good sticker site. Anyway, just wanted to throw that out there. You don't have to have an Asian themed wedding to have the take-out boxes! (I love the take out boxes, too!)

We had a similar idea for our at home blessing. We were going to use traditional style (not flutes) champagne glasses filled with baby pink & lilac sweets. That way even when the treats are eaten the guests still had a keepsake. Got the original idea from a bridal mag.

I think its definitely a great idea. I never would have thought of that. Its very unique and I think your guests will love it!

That's a CUTE IDEA!!!!!!! OK, now I'm thinking again.....

Thanks everyone! I just thought about all the weddings I have been to and realized that the favors usually end up in the garbage or stuffed in a drawer somewhere and it killed me to think we were going to spend hundreds of dollars on something that would be thrown away or lost. This way, at least people can eat them. I'm even going to do some sugar free so our grandparents can partake ;)

Karen - I think its an awesome idea. I would double check with Disney to make sure its do-able. They are pretty strict about outside food coming in, so I would inquire with your event manager to make sure that the candy won't fall under that rule.

That's exactly what my mom just said too! I'll have to call my planner tomorrow and see :) Thanks!

I know this is a new thing. I've seen it done several times. That all sugar candy does not appeal to me. However, it does look cute. The only warning I have is watch the kids. I have seen little children make a HUGE mess of the candy table. If you don't want to be be slipping on pink and green candy all night long, have someone attend to the candy bar.

No, candy buffets seem really popular. A favor is a token of thanks.
