Hi ya

From what i've read on here Disney seems pretty great for accommodating people of all sizes but what is Universal like? I'd be grateful to hear from larger people (i'm 5'4, size 28/30) who have gone to Universal/IOA and what their experiences were.

I am pretty sure that things like Duelling Dragons, Dr. Doom's Fearfall and Hulk will be out of the question and i've accepted this (sadly...an incentive for weight loss for next vacation!). But I'd be keen to know about the Mummy, Terminator, Back to the Future and Jurassic Park.

Thanks

Eloise (only 26 days to go  )

PS have read a couple of the reports on allearsnet, was hoping for some details on the rides I mentioned above!

My husband is a pretty big guy and is able to ride everything in both Universal parks. Hulk and Dueling Dragons have two special seats in each train with double seat belts that are easier to close. These are found in rows 3 and 6. On the Mummy, try to sit in the back row for a little extra space. As long as they can get the restraint to click once, you'll be allowed to ride. You won't have any problems with the others listed.

Have fun!

I am taller but about the same clothing size you are..Mummy is very do-able, tell them up front you want the back row (the seats are larger and the bars accomodate larger size bellys) The bar has to snap twice for you to ride on Mummy and I had no problem on it in the last row last trip.

For the coaster rides they have two seats outside each entrance showing you what they look like and so you can test them to see if you fit ok. I believe they have the regular size seats to try and the larger seats which they all seem to offer in the back of the cars. That way you can try them without standing in line or being embarrassed if you cannot ride the coasters.

None of the rest of the rides you listed will give you any trouble, try for the back of the car in Men In Black also they are slightly larger if you choose to ride it...

Do not worry over your size, there are a lot of people of a larger size vacationing also and they make it fairly easy for all sizes to ride the rides.

I'm 6'2" and "fat" .. I only had problems with one ride, Dudley Do Right .. the others weren't even too tight of a fit.

Does anyone know where you can get photos of the rides/seats on the internet? All Ears Net has great photos but only of the Disney rides which of course is only right seeing as its a disney site!

Thanks for all your messages!

My SIL is about your size. She was unable to ride the coasters (as you have mentioned) even in the larger seats. She did not try to ride Mummy or MIB that I know of but she did ride Dudley-Do-Rights and Jurassic Park with out any problems.

You'll have no problems with MIB. The seat belts accommodate very large people, and the lap bars jsut stop at the first belly it touches, lol.

The only thing I have trouble with at the entire resort is the front seat of Dudley.

I've never gone w/ anyone "fat", but most rides are able to accomadate larger riders. I know Hulk and Dueling Dragons have special seating somewhere in each. For JPRA there are no real dividers between the seats (just an outline of 5 seats), so I suppose larger riders could use 2 seats if they needed to.

I'm about a size 26, and was there in December. I was able to ride the mummy...just try the test seat out front. I was not able to ride hulk or dueling dragons..even in the larger seats. I carry my weight in my tummy and butt and my big butt wouldn't fit into the seat. Now I might have been able to shove it in, but I didn't feel like standing out front (it was new year's and very busy!LOL) letting everyone watch me trying to fit my butt into a seat!LOL On Popeye, I did have to use the extended seat belt...the ride operator very casually mentioned there was a belt that would maybe be more comfy for me. i loved him for being so discreet!! I didn't have any problems with any other ride. have a great time!!!!

Just a quick question Melinda, did you ride Dudley? I think I had problems due to my height, or just too many tall guys in .. or ET?

no, I didn't go on dudley. I didn't want to at the time. I did go on ET though.
I tended to gravitate towards the rides I ended up falling in love with....Spiderman, the mummy, Jimmy Neutron, Shrek. I went on several others...those are the ones I kept going back to!LOL

Booknut - here's one (of many) threads on this very subject:

This is so common a question, I wonder if a sticky somewhere on these boards would be helpful. And as far as the restraints on Hulk and DD - given where you live, have you ever been to Alton Towers? Dueling Dragons is the same type of coaster with the same restraints (which Hulk uses as well) as Nemesis.

Figment 22 was correct about the Hulk and Dueling Dragons. B & M designed both of the coasters and included "big boy" seats in rows 3 and 6 of each train. Look for the seats with the double seat belts.
