Fastpass Return Time Being Enforced at WDW beginning March 7th according to Touring P

I wonder if this will be permanent implementation in WDW or if it is a short term policy change during spring break.

This is quite possible. At WDW enforcement of the return window is commonly seen.

1. One could get FPs from a central area or by using a SmartPhone or something

2. One had the choice of choosing their own window

Disney has indicated that changes will be coming, in particular to WDW, and these things above can be related to what Disney has said.

If FP return windows become enforced it may be an indication that Disney's plans are moving forward.

What's XPass? :confused3
I am not 100% aware of XPass but it seems like it is some next generation FP where certain Disney guests can make FP reservations for rides before their trip. Sort of like a dining reservation. This apparently will be a perk for Disney hotel guests and not others, and may just be focused on WDW and not DLR.

I have no idea how reliable this report about XPass is, but it all sounds plausible from what I've read elsewhere. Basically, at least initially, people staying at the most expensive hotels will have an option to pay more money to be able to book FPs in advance, get special parade seating, and get special electronic interaction throughout the park.

Now, to me, deciding today that I want to ride Space Mountain at 11 AM in December 2012 sounds like a nightmare. (And I LIKE planning!) But I guess to super-planners and/or WDW people, maybe it's appealing? :confused3

Let me begin by stating that I hate, I HATE the generic Disney Parks, but it applies here, since we don't know which park or whether both domestic parks will be subject to NextGen. I will have to wash my mouth out with soap and take a hot hot shower after to get the Disney Park stink off. :)

THe problem that I have with the concept of the Xpass, or NextGen Fastpass- whatever you want to call it- is that it takes the Disney Parks from the place where every girl is a Princess and brings us back to the reality, the princesses go straight to the front of the line and the chambermaids wait in the hot sun.
Most people who fall into the "Princess" income group have no problem with these changes, in fact they can't wait! But for the rest of us, it is heartbreaking. I like the current Fastpass system BECAUSE it is available equally for ALL guests. Disney Parks *should* remain a place where every girl is a princess.
Not to evoke the spirit of Walt but if you read any of what he expected of his E.P.C.O.T., he would not be hip to this separation of First Class and Coach park guest. Or in the case of NextGen, the Deluxe park guest from the Value park guest.
