Fast pass +

We have gone to Disney three times now since they have put the Fast Pass system on hold, and if I am being honest I really enjoy not having it. Lines just overall move so much faster since essentially the standby line has doubled in hourly capacity. And Disney can add ride capacity as they let more people into the parks be simply getting rid of the entire empty chair between riders thing and go back to the old way of loading the rides. It honestly has been super nice not worrying about making a fast pass at a certain time.
But do you really think that works when parks are at full capacity, because they are not anywhere colder to full right now, not close by a long shot

But ride capacity is also not at 100% by a long shot either. They can put people closer on the rides as capacity increases to offset it to an extent. The truth is the FP+ system does benefit the extreme Disney planners, but that is maybe 15% or so of overall guest, while it tends to be a determinate to other guest. I understand why people (notably on this board) like it so much, but I wonder if in the overall large scope of things as previously implemented if it was an overall benefit or not?

Are there any large theme parks that do not offer some sort of fast pass option? A park of Disney’s scale has to have some offering. People will pay for convenience and Disney would happily take the money.
that being said, I agree the rides can handle more, but the rides can’t handle that t more per ride visible, maybe 20 more per ride. The park can thousands upon thousands upon thousands more people capacity wise, so I don’t think your comparison is just.

Disney has mostly avoided the "express pass" type of play where you spend X amount of dollars to skip lines. I do hope they stick with that. I like the fast pass setup at DLR where you can make them once you get into the park. I do think fast pass of some sort of course will come back, but my main point was just how much more relaxing the trips have been not worrying about them.

I would happily welcome the Disneyland system which is basically the old fastpass system. I preferred that over FP+ greatly.
and I agree that it’s been relaxing and easy to get onto rides, but I’d think that’s more about capacity as well.
at this point they need to do something and make announcements As it pertains to the rest of the year. Universal is basically re-open, and Disney is just lagging behind. They need to make decisions so people can plan their vacations. Not to mention, more people and more attractions and more entertainment options contribute to their bottom line.

Universal has been doing things so smoothly and transitioning great. Even opening a new ride that people are calling the best coaster in Florida. I never been huge on Universal, but they have really stepped there game up during all this. You are right, they are basically fully open again. Once Epic Universe opens up, I think Disney is going to have some problems. I firmly believe we will see big announcements this week from Disney.

I'm moving this to the Theme Parks Community board to avoid confusion as at this time FastPass+ has not been re-introduced. IF it is re-introduced a new thread will be opened on the TPAS board. Just trying to avoid confusion.

And there’s really no reason Disney couldnt start introducing more and more to the guests. If there is anything that is holding them back, it could be staffing issues, and to me that is the only acceptable excuse because it’s time to re open and give the guests a quality product instead of this watered down stuff.

Couldn’t agree more

Just saw a YouTube talking about internal discussions about DW going to a system similar to Universal. Calling it Lightnig Pass and charging $100-$300 to skip the line at attractions. I hope this is not the case I like the FP system but I'd much rather them not bring it back at all than go to something like this. But I could definately see it happening.

The worst case scenario would be if they added Lightening Pass, but it was cheap enough that a great many people added it. That would make the Standby Lines as bad as they were when there was fast pass +.

There is a major difference between Universal and Disney regarding this idea. People generally get the Express Pass that works in both parks. It is quick and easy to go from one park to the other. Without social distancing, the train between parks is a walk-on for those with express pass. Also the entrances are a short walk apart. So, for one express pass you get to skip a great many long lines because you can easily do that in both parks. Now think of say, Epcot. How many rides are in Epcot that you want to ride that have long lines right now? If it was a one-park lightening pass, you'd be bored by noon. If it was more than one park, you'd waste an hour or two going between the parks.

This has probably already been asked but I am hearing that the "old style" fastpass is coming back. The one where you went to the kiosk and got a ticket with return time. Any truth to this?

There has been no concrete announcement about the return of Fastpass. Just conjecture.

I’m going to say maybe eventually though I can see them going the way of some of the internal parks where it’s an add on $$ for front of the line access to a curated bundle of e tickets

I also see Tron, Guardians and possibly Ratatouille doing a boarding group/virtual queue lottery like Rise

This is a very good point. I didnt think about that. I hope this isn't what they go to. Although I could see then doing something like this for Deluxe resort guest or something.

Being back the og fastpass whete you had to use the kiosk and got a ticket. It was much better.

A version of this is what I would prefer too, even if it’s from the app. Fastpasses only made day of from inside the park, one at a time, with the same sort of exception they used to have in the old system for if your fastpass return time was very far in the future, you could make a second after a certain amount of time. Or maybe a hybrid system where you can pre-plan one fastpass per day, but the rest must be made day of from inside the park, one at a time. Or at least for a park you have a reservation for if reservations are sticking around.

I tend to travel with a big family group and preplanning fastpasses for a large group is a nightmare. We got a lot more use out of the old system, and in general, I feel like lines were more manageable, even if you didn’t have a fastpass. Old system was much better for last minute trips as well.

I just listened to another vlogger speculate about the paid “Lightning Pass” similar to UO at $100 to $300 PER DAY. Obviously it’s a huge cash grab but, I truly hope the powers that be consider the difference between the parks and how guests plan their visit at each one.

For $300, it better give 3x the benefits of UO and basically be a complete walk on to rides an unlimited amount of times.
