That's assuming that you also have valid tickets purchased and linked to your MDE account.

In the past I usually booked everything seperate, doing my hotel online and tickets from the Disney Store. So in order to use Magic Bands, Fast Pass Plus I would have to purchase my tickets online and link them to MDE, is that correct?

No, I think once u purchase them at the Disney store you should be able to link them to MDE
