Do you still run in to people at WDW who are confused or even offended that you use FP? It's been around for so long that I'm surprised how many people still don't "get it." During our last trip a very frustrated DD asked "what gives you the right to walk to the front of the line?" This was right before they put you inside the building at RRC. The line was 90 minutes, so I wouldn't be happy either. I thought about explaining FP, but in my experience those people still don't understand.

What is exactly so difficult to figure out? You slide your ticket into kiosk and you get a FP. And there are thousands of CMs to explain it if you need assistance.

Has anyone experienced this, or ever taken the time to find out WHY these people don't use FP?

Yes, I have. Walking past that enormous line for Space Mountain. I don't get it either. I mean, why not take advantage of the FP? It's not like they're hard to find or figure out. And they're FREE! I don't know. I think "new people" forget it's there too. I told my friend about it who went for the firs time ever in March. I specifically told her about it too and how it's free and blah blah blah. I asked if she used it when she was down there and she not because they forgot, and then they thought they had to pay. Doh! Oh well! Our gain!

We've been called cheaters before.

While fastpassing our way past the queue at RNRC, a woman yelled out at us that we were "cheating". I looked at Karen and we both started laughing so hard. Not a her mind you but at the general idea she was spouting.

But like the previous poster stated, their loss is our gain....oh well!

Disney is one of very few parks that have a free "virtual queue" system (Fast Pass). Universal removed there's. At Six Flags, you need to pay for there system. On top of that, most first time visitors don't research their vacation like some of us do.

I'm not sure how much research it requires when every FP attraction has big signs that say Fastpass Distribution and Fastpass Return. And if I remember correctly, there's an explanation of it on the park maps.

Yes, lol. On our last trip, we had FPs for Buzz and decided to wait out the time in the line for Splash Mountain. The kid behind us - about 12, with a group of some sort - was just having kittens watching the FP folks get let in ahead of us. Now, from what he was saying, he obviously understood FPs, but apparently was ticked that it let people in front of *him*.......

Not sure which was the worse part of that wait - listening to this kid whining for so long or being bumped repeatedly by the 5 and 7 year old brothers whose mother sent them through the line alone and who proceeded to act like, well, like 5 and 7 year old brothers left alone. lol

I remember getting a FP for Jungle Cruise and whipping past the 90 minute queue and it was HOT that day. This guy starts yelling, "hey! You can't bud!" I just stared at the guy like he was from Mars. I mean, come on. It's not that hard. And I REFUSE to explain FP to these idiots  who can't even read their guide map or ask a CM why all these lucky people are getting to the front of the line. Fine with me though. Keeps the FP lines little. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Oh yeah - this guy almost decked me (I'm female, 5' nothing and weigh 100 pounds soaking wet) at Twilight Zone. He would NOT let me get in front of him to catch up to my husband after we exited the library. I had no idea why. My husband stopped to let the guy go around him and he refused! It was insane. I finally confronted the guy and he said that was the SECOND time my husband "cut him off". Because my husband went into the boiler room first and this guy was second (I was third)? After a very heated exchange, we finally figured it out. We were the FastPassers let into the library line and this guy was the first waiting in the stand by line. That line was 60 minutes at the time. That's what he meant by "cutting him off". First time one of my FastPasses almost led to blows.

I'm always quite surprised at the number of my fellow guests who don't "get" Fastpass. I hear, "Oh that's for people staying at the resorts" and "You have to pay extra for that". Like others said-- there are instructions on getting your free fastpass printed right in the park map. It's been around at least 5 years, it's in all the guide books, there are cast members standing by to assist people with fast passes.
I feel sort of guilty walking by all those people going on Space Mountain, but there is NO WAY I'm waiting 30, 60,or 90 minutes for a two minute ride if I can walk on with a Fast Pass.

All other theme parks charge for it because in the patent Disney holds for fast pass, one of their claims is that it is a free service. What that means, is that for any other park to offer a faster access service to all for free, they would have to pay Disney for a license to use the patent.

In defense of the people who act that way ( I am not one...I love FP), it can be frustrating when you have been standing in the "stand-by" line and the CM's let on 50 FP users and 10 stand-by people. I have had to stand in line while waiting for a time to get another FP. Some of the people may never have heard of it, or did not see it, or whatever. It is always nice to explain it...maybe they will check for it the next time...or even take them to the kiosk if they are at the back of the line. They do tend to be appreciative.

We've only ever had to use Fastpass once because we don't ride the big coasters and we follow the whole get-there-at-opening touring plans. But when we breezed by the 90+ minute line at Buzz Lightyear, we got some NASTY words from the standby line. It made me a bit uncomfortable. But as many have posted, it's not like they couldn't have done the same thing! I guess I don't get spending so much for a vacation and not doing a little reading to figure out the details first. But if everyone read guidbooks and the DIS, we would have all these (not so) "secret tricks"!

That's not quite the way these kind of patents (or copyrights) work, but its nice that Disney still does provide FastPass for free. (Disney COULD start charging for it, if they wanted to.)

The other parks could do it for FREE if they wanted to (no license fee necessary... they couldn't call it "FastPass"), but they see the incentive to ride sooner as a revenue enhancer.

I haven't been since they added the Fastpasses. Can someone explain to me, is there a clearly marked entrance for FP holders? I'd love to use them but don't want to be clueless as to where to queue up when our time comes up.

My own husband didn't believe me about FP on our first trip. I had done all my research and knew all the tricks! :disrocks:

First day at MK and I grab FP for BTM and we go get lunch. After lunch we head to BTM where the line is over 60 min. I lead DH to the FP entrance and he keeps saying that I am going the wrong way (I had explained FP to him but he just didn't believe me!). We go in and are immediately walking in an empty line past all the suckers, I mean guests, that are waiting. DH is whispering to me "this isn't the right line, this can't be right, this is soooo wrong. we can't just go in front of all these people. . ." We walk to the front of the FP line (no one there!) and immediately get put in line for our car/train! DH was singing a whole different tune!

We also had FP for Splash so we went there next. This time in line DH is whispering "this is so cool. I can't believe those people are actually standing in line. Suckers! Don't they know about this? Can we do this for every ride?"

"Now you know why I spent all that time on those Disney websites honey!"

A lady got very huffy with me in line for, of all things, "It's a Small World." I know, not a FastPass ride, but we were standing in a little bit of a line and the Peter Pan line across the way was very long. They had planned to ride it next, but when they saw the line they decided to skip it. I said, "Why don't you get a FastPass for it?" She said, with a little bit of attitude, "I just wish they didn't have that at all. I think everybody should have to wait together." I said, "Why don't you walk over there and get two FastPasses, ride Small World, get a drink or see another attraction, and then use your Peter Pan FastPass in an hour?" (The time to return was about an hour away.)

I truly think it had never dawned on her that they could do this. I sent them over and they came back with two FastPasses clutrched in their hot little hands. A new convert!!!!

I'd never feel guilty about using a FP, but I'm always happy to stop and explain it to someone who has a little attitude.

The really popular attractions use FastPass. First thing to find is the FP distribution. There are numerous machines around the main entrance to the rides/attractions that dispense FP tickets. They are marked FP Distribution and they have a clock overhead showing the FP return time. This is crucial since you don't want to get FP is you will not be in that park when you can use them. For example, you see Soarin' FP with a return time of three hours. However you will not be in Epcot at that time. In this example you don't want to get the FP since 1) you won't be there to use them and 2) you will be locked out of another FP for a time period. The bottom of all FP tickets tell you when you can obtain another FP for any attraction. You will not be allowed more FP until that time comes.
Once you get your FP tickets just go and do whatever until your window opens up. Don't try to get through the FP line until the right time, they are very strict about this. Once your time window opens simply find the FP entrance. The Cast Member on duty will check your FP and wave you through. You will pass the millions of others in the stand-by line (I don't begin to understand this either) and normally walk right up to, or close, to the ride entrance. Another CM will collect your FP and let you through. Everyone in your group will need a FP. It's easy, fast, and as someone pointed out....it is clearly explained on the park brochures so I REALLY don't understand why more people don't use them. But, as already said, better for us who do!!!!

I've never run into people at parks (or maybe I just wasn't paying attention) but I ran into it in my kitchen! My nephew was telling me about spending a day at the park with a school group when they were on some kind of trip but that they didn't get to ride anything because the lines were so long. I asked him why he didn't use fast pass and he told me because 'we only had a regular plain ticket, we didn't pay for any of those extras.' I felt awful that no one told those kids about fastpass and apparently they either didn't have a map or didn't read it.

last year me and my dd rode the RNR, but before entering the line, we grabbed some FP's for it so we could ride it again. My daughter HATED the ride. (You should see the picture from it :teeth: ) so we are leaving RNR and I have these 2 FP's and I gave them to 2 guys that were at the end of the now 90 minute line. You woulda thunk I gave them them the winning lottery tickets. :thumbsup2
