Fashion Faux Pas Help - Sandals and Nylons Dilemma

Ok...the last time I wore pantyhose was my wedding, and I was wearing flats, so I didn't have to worry about any faux pas. I will be a bridesmaid in a few weeks, wearing this dress (not in brown though), and I have these shoes. I also have these shoes, in silver, that I planned on wearing to the reception.

So, I guess it's a faux pas to wear pantyhose with open toed shoes, even if it's a wedding? (And I WILL be wearing pantyhose, so don't tell me not to ;))

Should I return my open toed shoes and wear the flats for everything? The flats don't seem dressy enough for a wedding. (I will be standing next to a nine months-pregnant woman, so she'll probably be wearing slippers, if that makes a difference )

Should I buy some of those pantyhose that don't have toes? Do they work? Does the edge stay put underneath the shoe? Do they even make them any more? I didn't see any at Target last week, but I can try other stores.

This is all totally out of my knowledge base, so I'll take any advice I can get :rotfl:

Either get some closed toe pumps or skip the pantyhose.

Well, I know you won't like the answer, but I would NEVER wear pantyhose with sandals like that. I would just go without. I don't think the flats are dressy enough for the wedding but fine for the reception.

This.

If you MUST wear hose, I agree with Golfgal. Return the sandals and buy a pair of nice closed-toe heels.

I, personally, would ditch the hose before the sandals, but I know there are those of you out there who don't feel dressed up unless you have pantyhose on.

I wouldn't wear pantyhose and sandals, unless I wanted to look like my 84 year old grandma

I agree- I never wear pantyhose at all, but esp would not with those shoes. I am a true believer is something called Sally Hanson Spray on Legs- it is waterproof, smudge-proof makeup for your legs and it is awesome! Looks so natural and gets rid of that wintertime pale leg pall. I would highly recommend it and use it at all fancy functions.

I don't know if you can get them in the US but in the UK we can get tights (pantyhose) without toes which are ideal for wearing with sandals. They have a piece which goes between the big and next toes.

^^ What they all said! :thumbsup2

Panty hose and sandals....ewwwww!

Get close toed shoes if you must wear hose. Personally, I'd ditch the hose and wear the sandals.

I think these are good for open-toed shoes, but not sandals. Heck, the whole heel is exposed!

I wouldn't wear pantyhose with those shoes either but if you are going to then I would look for the toeless ones:thumbsup2 Pretty dress!

Get the sheerest pantyhose you can find (the kind with the sandal toe) and you'll be fine.

Pantyhose can be quite an improvement on some legs, eh?

Take care and enjoy yourself! No one is going to be worried about your pantyhose! They'll all be looking at the bride!

Do not wear pantyhose with those shoes.

Buy some closed-toe pumps for the wedding if you feel you must wear hose.

The flats are perfect for the reception.

If you'll be more comfortable wearing panty hose with your sandals - do it!

The purpose of sandals is to let the toes be free in the open air. Not strangled in panty hose. Just... say... no...

I'm with the others, either ditch the hose or get closed toe shoes.

I just saw that Donna karan makes the toeless ones. I also saw them on Dillards.com and JCPenny .com

I have tried the open-toe hose that have the little piece between the big toe and the rest...that little piece alone was more uncomfortable than wearing hose altogether! I don't know what it was about it, but it pulled and left a big red very painful gouge mark in there.

I say go with some pretty closed-toe shoes.

Exactly! I have some of the no toe ones and I also have a pair that have the thing between the toes...I am more comfortable when I am dressed up and looking nice. I'm in my 50's and I guess dressing up just means wearing them. :confused3 I actually hate the way bare legs look when in a nice dress, casual sun dress OK, but nice fancy..nope.

Now if you just want to wear hose for the control top and to hold things in place...maybe invest in Spanx. They have all different types available and they work.

Even toe-less ones will look silly with sandals. You still have the issue of the straps snagging the nylons.

I'm going against the grain here. There are pantyhose out there with a sheer toe that are made to be worn with open shoes including sandals.

Some women can get away with not wearing pantyhose with shoes/sandals. I'm the type who feel that my legs do not look good without them.

Go with what you are comfortable with wearing.
