Fashion Faux Pas Help - Sandals and Nylons Dilemma

I'm going against the grain here. There are pantyhose out there with a sheer toe that are made to be worn with open shoes including sandals.

Some women can get away with not wearing pantyhose with shoes/sandals. I'm the type who feel that my legs do not look good without them.

Go with what you are comfortable with wearing.

My thoughts too. Especially with the last line!

Well, I know you won't like the answer, but I would NEVER wear pantyhose with sandals like that. I would just go without. I don't think the flats are dressy enough for the wedding but fine for the reception.

I agree. If you really must wear pantyhose to be comfortable, can you buy some closed toe pumps or something to wear instead?? I never wear pantyhose, I can't stand the way they feel -so when they became a fashion no, I was so happy!

I would not wear hose with those shoes. I would buy closed-toe pumps and wear the hose. I personally could not go bare-legged. I think my legs are ugly and pasty white! I envy people who can pull of the bare-leg look with their skinny tan legs. I would much rather ditch the shoes for the hose, and it seems you have to give up one or the other!

The shoes are really cute though, and so is the dress.

Do NOT for the love of any fashion sense--where panty hose with open toed shoes.

If you must do hose--do a closed toed shoe.

Sandles and socks or stockings or any "toe" covering is an oxymoron of fashion.;)

I go bare legged and if I felt compelled to wear a stocking--closed toed shoe all the way.

I am a true believer is something called Sally Hanson Spray on Legs- it is waterproof, smudge-proof makeup for your legs and it is awesome! Looks so natural and gets rid of that wintertime pale leg pall. I would highly recommend it and use it at all fancy functions.

I'm definitely going to look into that!

I wouldn't wear pantyhose and sandals, unless I wanted to look like my 84 year old grandma

Yeah...the more I think about it, the more my feet start to look like grandma feet in my mind.

I don't know if open toe and hose-less really can go together with me, since my fingers and toes are always cold...red toes aren't a much better fashion statement than exposed stocking-ed toes. I think a new pair of shoes are definitely in my future...hopefully stores are stocking more silver shoes as prom season gets closer.

Thanks for all the responses so far, I really need second opinions on stuff like this :goodvibes

Are you wearing the hose because you want the smoothing and the support? If that is the case then I highly suggest a pair of Spanx Power Panties and a spray tan for your legs, then skip the hose.

The trend lately has been to wear opaque tights (or even socks) with open toed heels.

That's kind of an edgy look, but it looks intentional.

Sheer hose with sandals looks like you're hoping no one will notice, and that's what makes it look so bad, I think.

Put me down for open-toe hose or extremely sheer hose too. I am a bigger gal, and even though I have shapely lower legs, I get Chub Rub something fierce beneath the skirt!

I would choose:
Toeless hose
Really sheer hose with toes
a Leg shaper like Spanx, but is like a bike short - slims and eliminates Chub Rub.

I say wear the dang shoes, and if you wear them with hose, wear the seam under your toes so it is much less noticeable!

(Oh, and on a shallow note, those silver shoes are super cute! Are they comfy? I have to do a wedding too, and I am thinking of those).

:thumbsup2 I'll third it

I think that...the sandals for a wedding in just a few weeks might not be the most comfy, b/c it might not be all that warm.

I also think that fashion sense be darned, if you are more comfy in the sandals with the nylons, do it.

I also think that if someone is wasting their time at a *wedding* staring at the b'maid's legs, they have other issues. (take that, relatives of the bride's mom who were aghast at the ankle tattooes on me and another b'maid, and chose to be snotty and rude about it)

And I think that's a cute b'maid dress. :goodvibes

I think they are pretty comfortable, but I haven't worn them for very long periods, so we'll see how 4 or 5 hours in them works out :)

Honestly, I wasn't going to think twice about doing it until I said something about it to my mother-in-law today and she said no way, then I totally started doubting everything I thought about fashion (but that doesn't take much to do ).

I'm trying out the shoes this evening without any sort of stocking on. Seems to be fine, other than my cold toes. The average temperature for the wedding location and day is high of 53, low of 36. Don't know if I can deal with cold toes and legs...I might be calling an audible wedding day :rotfl:

Looking at that temperature, I would close toe shoe and panty hose.

If it ends up unseasonably warm, self tan and go with the sandals. But l love those sandals.

Buy some hose with invisible toes and you are good to go.

I can't see how wearing hose without toes would work here, since you would need enough shoe to cover the actual strap part.

Given the number of well dressed celebs and fashionistas I have seen wearing invisible toe panty-hose, I have to second guess the Disers who are telling you this is gauche.

I don't know if you can get them in the US but in the UK we can get tights (pantyhose) without toes which are ideal for wearing with sandals. They have a piece which goes between the big and next toes.

I found a couple places online for these type of pantyhose:

http://www.silkies.com/search.asp?SKW=toeless&cm_mmc=Google-_-Hosiery_Summer-_-Toeless-_-open%20toes%20nylons

My DD had a pair and she wore them all the time with open toe shoes, sandals (similar to your shoes) and no one said anything about it.

Sorry to hijack.

Have you ever tried applying deodorant or body glide between your thighs? It's a common fix used by runners to avoid chaffing on the inner thigh.

As far as the original question. I would try my best to find a closed toe shoe.

This was a big argument on my wedding day! My Mom was so upset that my bridesmaids and I weren't wearing pantyhose. She also argued with me about the sash on my gown (she kept insisting that it had to be tied in a big bow!)

In the end, none of us wore pantyhose, and everyone survived. We looked fine.

The photographer had a lot of fun at our house :lmao:
