Hi! I was just introduced to farm town last night. My friends thought I needed something else addicting on FB. They also thought it might balance my massive addiction to mafia wars.

So I really don't know what I am doing yet but it looks like fun. I am at level 2. I have harvested my potatoes and grapes and they are in storage (is that what I am supposed to do for awhile?) Not sure how to work or why I need to hire people to harvest my few crops but I will figure this out like I figured out how to rob beachfront hotels!

Go to the marketplace to hire others who are playing online at the same time as you, or be hired.

If you get others to harvest for you, you will get more money for your harvest .

Another person playing Farm Town to counteract the Mafia Wars addiction! My college friends got me hooked on Mafia Wars and now the DISers got me hooked on Farm Town! Not like I have spare time on my hands or anything....

My finger is tired. I have been harvesting all day, but, I made over 90,000 coins.

People in the Marketplace are soooo irritiating with all of the begging and huge word balloons. You can't carry on a conversation with anyone because of the "Hire Me" pleadings.

I did have a couple funny things happen today. I was just hanging around there and made a comment about all of the people "poofing" and someone asked me if I wanted to poof. I thought she was joking around, because she had been in the marketplace for a good while.Then she hired me for a good sized job.

Later, I saw someone whose user name is a fan of a school in our conference. I said hi and told them I was a fan of my favorite school. S/he never answered, so I thought they couldn't care less, until I got a pop up from this person hiring me.

It was a 20000 coin job all by myself.

So the moral of my story is don't go to the Marketplace and start begging like you see so many do. I've found a lot of people are standing around watching, waiting to hire someone who is not begging. People have told me they want people who are friendly in the Marketplace but not begging.

thats good advice! If I hire someone, I wont hire anyone whos begging! I will click random people who arnt even talking to hire them rather than hiring a begger.

I popped in here about a week ago, when I first started farming. I wanted to see if I got in to it before adding people etc... Well, it was inevitable right? I've made it to level 11 and have 6 of my trophies so far.

I haven't had to go to the Marketplace to hire anybody since this thread started! I check to see if fellow DISer is online and ask them if they want to harvest what I have. It's been great 'keeping it in the family' so to speak.

Just wanted to make sure you know you can "ignore" all the beggars and whiners. I even let them know why they're being "ignored." People who socialize usually get more jobs.

Me too! Never thought of checking the DIS to hire someone.

About the begging in the Marketplace....put those people on ignore!!! I agree, it is so obnoxious!! Ignore has become a very good friend at Farmtown!!! LOL!!!

I like the trees because they don't go to waste. You don't have to plow or plant them. I will harvest them anytime!

LOL -I didn't connect your name to the one that didn't like trees! I try to keep the DIS names straight with the FarmTown but I missed yours!

you will harvest faster the more you do it. It isn't a problem if you are not the quickest. I just try to do the fields closest to my avatar -otherwise it takes a while while it walks to the next one.
