A cast member said in their Eyes & Ears publication circa two weeks ago Disney announced Art of Animation would, quote, "...have DVC rooms at the resort." My DW and I thought he was referring to the GF building project (this is where we were at the time and what she and I were discussing), but he insisted there would be DVC accommodations at Art of Animation.

Anyone else hear this? This seems far fetched to me, I would think the resort may be included in the Disney Collection, but part of the DVC offerings with rooms designated for members? I'm skeptical. He said this would start in August.

To have actual DVC rooms, they would have to sell points there. Can't imagine paying current DVC prices for a value resort. To offer at a cheaper price doesn't seem fair to current owners, they could use those points at any DVC resort. Unless the points could only be used at AoA. Disney Collection seems more likely.

Disney Collection sounds more probable to me, too.

If Eyes & Ears did report DVC villas at AoA several weeks ago, I suspect there would have been a lot more chatter about it by now.

I think its the cast member getting confused about the room types. They are like dvc but missing some things in the rooms.

Disney Collection would make sense. Being able to book there would be a "perk" of buying direct. Afterall, Grand Floridian will soon not be in the Disney Collection anymore.

I was told quite some time ago that DVC requested an allocation at AofA, and were waiting to see if they would receive it. My source stated that there is significant interest from DVC/potential DVC owners to make it wort pursuing. The purchase price and/or point requirements would be scaled accordingly. Unfortunately I have not had time to catch up with my friend for some time now, so I never had a chance to ask what happened with the request. I find your tidbit interesting in light of what I had been told in the past. I guess only time will tell!

FWIW, AoA is added to the Disney Collection, I think the points required will be more than most who say they want to trade there would be willing to pay.

I'm basing my opinion on the rack rates for AoA relative to the rack rates for the moderates. YMMV.

The same is true for each and every option in the DC, no reason to expect this to be different.

This makes the most sense to me as well. In my mind in spite of the number of people rooms at AoA can accommodate, the level of accommodations there is not the same as DVC resorts.

Hmm, more hints at a two-tier DVC:
--quickly raising prices at Deluxe-level DVCs
--rumors of DVCs at AofA and FW (which we would all agree are moderate-level)

It could just be that the magazine mentioned "family suites" and the reader inferred "dvc" but that would be the boring, practical answer :).

Having DVC at those locations doesn't automatically make them a value or moderate. We've had this discussion before from at least 2 angles. One is the argument about whether OKW and SSR are moderate vs deluxe and the other whether DVC would do a scaled down cheaper option. It seems many assume that the DVC option would have to meet the level of the underlying resort and I do not feel that is the case. Basically envision moving SSR or OKW to the location in question. The reality is that even the Disney Deluxe options are not all the same level, WL/AKL are not the same level as GF/BC/YC for example.

I don't think it would matter whether the DVC at AofA or FW matched the level of the resort. If it was associated with a "modertate" or "value" level resort (per Disney's own terminology) it would be assumed that it was comparable.

I think the level of services at SSR is higher than at WLV, but WLV is assumed to be a higher-level resort because of Disney's classification of WL.

From a sales standpoint, I don't think it matters what the resorts are really like as much as it matters what people assume the resorts are like.

At this time there is absolutely no intention of adding DVC to AoA in any concept including Disney Collection.

I have never heard that WLV is classified to be a higher level resort. It's all Deluxe, I don't get it?

By Disney standards, all DVC are Deluxe Villas, however some have it in their mind, that SSR or OKW are lesser as is WL and AKL, just because of the different room types and cost.

If Disney felt this was true they would have a different listing for those resorts.

I know CRO has different cash rental prices associated with DVC resorts. I really thought this was just due to the larger resorts having more availability and in order to fill them will offer them at a cheaper cash price. Never entered my mind about one resort being of a higher level than another. They all have good and bad qualities about them. I will have this same opinion of GF. SSR is on my list. I am looking forward to staying there.

Disney certainly stratifies deluxe hotels with not all being the same.

Actually they classify all DVC resorts into a separate category. However, if one looks at the points costs, overall amenities and cash costs, there are clearly differences between them.

Of course they are; just like all zebras are not identical but they are still zebras.

What separate category, they classify them all Deluxe Villas, :confused3

I wish more people trading in at the 7 month window would consider WL 'lesser', would make it easier for me book relatively last minute trip at my home resort...something that I haven't been able to accomplish in years.
