FAQ about the Disney Dining Plan

The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2006 is available at any major internet and 'in real life' bookstore. I got mine at Barnes and Noble.

2 nights at asm and a 6 day ticket, we will then move to bcv (dvc), so i think i'm eligible for 2 nights worth of tokens, for the onsite stay but someone said they are on you room key, i don't want them on my key because i want to use them while we are at bcv, can't i get the tokens on something else, or will they be denied because we checked out of asm..possible?

Your meal/snack credits will expire at midnight on the day you check out of ASM. That makes me sad as well, since we are staying in Orlando for another week after we leave Disney property.

I think they count on people having leftover credits when doing their cost model. We'll just use ours up on carryout to take to our new resort, but that wouldn't be an option for many people.

We are in Disneyland for 5 days at the beginning of Jan 2006, 6th till the 12th, 2 adults & 3 kids, 15,13,9 all boys.
My wife & I have chosen the following restaurants for ts dinners,
Day 1. Wolfgang puck cafe - upstairs dining - Downtown Disney
Day 2. Cinderella's royal table - is this ok for boys - Magic Kingdom
Day 3. Teppanyaki - Epcot
Day 4. Brown Derby - MGM
Day 5. Hoop de doo show at 7.15 - widerness lodge (after animal kingdom)
We haven't been to any of these before so any feedback would be appreciated.
Any suggestions for other restaurants would be great also.

regards,

Mike

I have the 2006 dining plan sitting in front of me & Wolfgang Puck's restaurants are not on the list for 2006 . It looks like they replaced it with Raglan Road...i think it's an Irish pub. I was looking forward to go to Wolfgang's too :(

We were just there for three days last month. My friend and I ate our meals, but my cousin and her friend only used their TS ones. On check out morning, they had all 3 CS and all 3 snacks left. So, they went and got them and took them home with them on the plane. We were at Pop Century, so the food court there had lots of things for them to take with them, that wouldn't go bad. My cousin planned ahead for this, as she knew she wouldn't eat but the one meal per day. She brought a little cooler, ice packs and rubber maid containers to put her stuff in.

Mike, just making sure that you also know that Hoop Dee Doo counts for two TS credits per person. Don't want you to get a big surprise and have to pay if you weren't planning on it. :sunny:

thanks for that,
and it does appear that Wolfgang puck is not on the 2006 dinner list. We were already looking forward to that dinner.
Has anybody been to the other restaurants that I listed, any comment would be appreciated.

regards,

Mike

I had a look at last years closing times thru DIS and it shows that:
Magic Kingdom closed at 7 pm
Epcot FW closed at 7 pm
Epcot WS closed at 9 pm
MGM closed at 7 pm

What happens if you book a restaurant at one of the above parks and they don't have magic hours that night, does that mean you have to be finished dinner and on your way out by say 7 pm, if so you would probably have to book the restaurant for 5.30 pm. Or can you still be in the park but everything else ic closed.

Does anybody know how it works.

regards,

Mike

Even if it is a EMH the restaurants close with the normal park hours. And you can book a 6:50 dinner, even if the park closes at 7, and you just leave when you are done. The CM will tell you what the latest seating is that night. It is pretty neat to be one of just a few people left in the park after it closes.

Can someone explain to me how this would be a good deal for seasonal passholders? I just booked our next trip for December, we are staying at Pop. 5 days of food vouchers would be a little much, so I could divide our hotel into back-to-back stays to cut back on the amount of dining plan we'd need, but then I'd still have to buy a 1-day park pass for all of us, which would be around $218. I definitely need 8 TS vouchers, but only about 15 CS vouchers.
What can I do with the unused 1-day tickets? Someone mentioned that AP will turn them in when they upgrade? What is that all about? Can SP'ers do that too?
TIA!!

I too am a florida resident. I booked the spoon full of sugar package w/dining. It came to a total of $1092 for six nights stay and includes hotel, one day base passes for two adults/two children AND 6 TS credits/6 CS credits/6 snack credits EACH person. We will be staying at POP and the price works out to $53.80 a night (including tax). I intend to take my passes and upgrade to Seasonal on our first day (before use). So, of that $1092, $229 will be credited towards my seasonal passes...so add roughly $600 for uprade and I spend LESS than $1700 for a six night stay, SP (which, as you know are good for a year), AND six TS meals, six CS meals, and six snacks. GOOD DEAL! We planned on eating dinner at Boma's and a character breafast at cape may's plus 9 CS meals...which worked out to $50 less than PAYING full price for the dining plan. I think its worth $50 to eat at FOUR MORE resturants...plus get dessert and appetizer (that I wouldn't normally pay extra for) at those that aren't buffet (in my case: 3)

Is this one way to get money back out of the 1-day tickets? Just hold onto them and cash them in towards another year of SP? In that case my DH would say go ahead and get the dining plan. Right now, it doesn't look like the dining plan would work for us. If I book 4 days dining plan, 2 adult 1-day tix and 2 child 1-day tix, the cost is almost $600 - and there's no way we'd spend $600 on food for less than a week if we *didn't* buy the dining plan.

We were at WDW in May 2005 for 6 days and spent less than $300 on food, and that included a Character Breakfast & Rainforest Cafe.

Kris and Steve -
I just wanted to let you know that you will be fine with your January ADRs. We went last January and arrived on Jan 1 - so it was still a bit busy for the first few days of our trip. However, that being said, we never had a problem going to restaurants without reservations - as long as we were a little flexible.

The only ADR I made at 90 days was CRT. I was able to book California Grill about 30 days out. I will admit, the time was a tad later than I wanted, but we dealt with it. Interestingly, we arrived at CG about an hour early hoping to have a cocktail and enjoy the view. When we arrived, they told us we could go right to our table if we wanted... which we did. They were busy, but they could have taken "walk ups" if they wanted.

BTW - CG was great. The food and service was wonderful. They allowed us to take our drinks and go outside to see Wishes (VERY cool view!). Expensive - but a great adult treat.

So - don't worry too much. We are going again in January (6th-14th). I may book some stuff at the 90 day mark, but if I want to switch later, I think I should be able to tweak things without too much hassle.

You might have answered this, I noticed the dining plan says
you can exchange 1 table service meal for character dining.
So can you use 1 table service meal for a character dinner
and then another day use 1 table service meal for a
character breakfast. I guess what I'm getting at is
can I use all my table service points for character
dining?

Also can you use a counter service meal for breakfast,
a counter service meal for lunch and one table service
for dinner, using 3 in one day, I realize you would be
short on another day. Thanks this is my first time
with the dining. :wave2:

Yep, can do all Character Dining. You can use them in any order you want - 3 Table services in one day, 3 Counter in one day, etc. We're doing 2 Table services in one day - Character Breakfast and Table service dinner.

I had heard that Captain Jacks was pretty good if you wanted to do a Downtown Disney rest. instead of Wolfgang Pucks
