I realize I am a day late and a dollar short but What The Heck??? Toontown closing-Mickey and Minnie's houses NO MORE! Building houses and and a castle for the princesses? I feel a meltdown coming on...........................Ugh! Why mess with perfection?

I think they're doing this to counter Universal's opening of Harry Potter's Wizarding World or whatever it's called.

Mickey's Birthdayland....Toontown Fair...Toontown et all was only put in as a temporary new "land" for Mickey's Birthday many many years ago. It was kept around because of it's popular appleal for just about everyone to have a chance to meet Mr. Mouse. But the infrastructure has seen better times.

Times change....and Mickey is not quite as popular as the Princesses are now. And it's not just the princesses. Dumbo is getting a whole new mini land out of the deal, a new table service restaurant, and Ariel is getting her own ride.

Have you seen the blueprints? It looks like it will be a really nice addition to the park. And dont you worry anout Mickey and Minnie, they are getting a whole new meet and great near the front of the park.

ToonTown/BirthdayTown did always kind of had that "This place is only temporary" feel to it in my opinion. :confused3 That's the only area of the MK that never really did much of anything for me.

The only reason why disney kept toontown around is because the tents are temporary structures and something about not having to pay property taxes on them because they weren't real buildings.

And yes, those tents are awful, especially the back stage area for the breakroom and stuff. In the summer time it could be hotter back there than outside.

And it's said that the houses will be moved, no one knows for sure where, but they're not being torn down all together.

I heard they are moving Mickey and Minnie's homes to the front of the park?!

From what I have been hearing, the actual houses are not being moved, but a rather large meet and greet area will be built inside the Exposition Hall. I guess we will all know in a year or two....:confused3

Yeah, they'll probably use the old theater behind the Expo Hall (at least that's what I'm thinking).

My first trip was in 2000 so Toontown has always been part of my disney experience. I'll have to try and find the blueprints before I completely freak out! :)

Thanks, Mike. Well, it will be interesting to see it come to "life" but I really could live without more Princess overkill. We just aren't that into Cindy, Aurora or Belle. Princess Tiana seems left out as well as Jasmine.....???

A new table service restaurant will be a nice addition. Hopefully once the construction begins it won't be too invasive to the open attractions in Fantasyland.

It just makes me sad that our kids won't be able to see Mickey or Minnie's houses.....we loved those.

Dont you worry Chelle!

I think you can find a flight from DeKalb to Anaheim still! I mean everyone knows that Mickey really lives at Disneyland and only vacationed at Disney World!

No plans to tear down his primary residence yet! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the link! We all watched together. DD age 8 said: "I hope I'm still a kid when that happens" :rotfl: and DD age 10 said: "That was awesome".

Now maybe they won't be so upset if there is construction when we are there in a little over a week!

Still no Phinneas and Ferb...oh well, I guess we get enough of them at home!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I've never been a fan of ToonTown, so, I'm hopeful...but, we'll have to wait to see what the final product looks like.

:rotfl2: I hadn't even thought of that. We never think about DL because we have never been there.
