Fantasy February 16, 2013 - 7 Night Western Cruise Meet

Question from a first timer. My reservation summary has guest ashore times and guest aboard time. Does guest ashore mean that is when you are allowed to start going ashore. The reason I ask is I have a time for guest ashore Grand Cayman 11:30 and have a submarine excursion for 11:45.

Is this a DCL excursion or one you booked on your own?

I'm on that one too. I'm also a first timer, but from what I understand, they ensure that those on excursions are first on the beach.

This is a DCL excursion. Its the Atlantis submarine. We may be ok. From some research I'm doing people are saying by booking DCL excursions they will make sure you make it. They wouldn't allow you to book it if it was going to be a problem.

Yes, if it's a DCL excursion, then there's no issue at all. For comparison my DCL excursion for Grand Cayman lists the start time as 11:15. The "start time" also includes assembling on the ship with your DCL coordinator. You'll get much more specific instructions once on the ship.

Yup, if DCL is arranging it, don't worry about a thing. They'll take care of it! :thumbsup2

I have a question about the characters and photos. At the character meet and greets are there photographers or do you bring your own camera? Also friends of ours went on a cruise in 2007 and they got some pretty sweet pictures with mickey...and it was them, mickey and a white background and it was taken by a photographer. They don't remember where they had them done on the ship. Do they still do stuff like this? How do you find out about it b/c I don't see it in old navigators?

Also silly questions, but what about lunch when you're on the ship? Do they have sit down lunch? are you assigned times? or do you just go to quick service?

They have photographers and you can bring your own cameras.

Those photos with Mickey (and others) on the backgrounds are usually taken in the Atrium, before dinner seating times.

For lunch, there will be options listed in your daily Navigator. There is the buffet at Cabanas and usually one restaurant has a sit down option. There is also room service or the quick options up on the pool deck. Times are not assigned, but each location will have operating hours.

You can see the Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner schedule on the right side of this Navigator:

Me and my favorite lady will be first time cruisers on this cruise with no kids. One question I have for the veteran DCL cruisers is this. Do any of the bars or clubs on the ship have a must try specialty drink or a beer I won't find anywhere else that We must try. When me and the wife were in Hawaii before I was at this bar that served the greatest Mai Tai I ever tasted so we are always trying to taste something different when we travel.

Me and the wife are thinking about going all out for pirates night. Do a lot of adults do this or is mostly a kids thing also I have been checking on line for pirate outfits found several sites. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions on this.

Ok crazy question. I was on the reservation thingy, looking at port excursions for castaway cay...and it's showing the cabanas as sold out. Which I wasn't expecting it not to be...however...cabana 16 and cabana 21 aren't showing at all. Like they're not there. Do they not exist? Does that mean they're sold out too? Or do they hold them back for something?

You can definitely go all out as adults. It's not a kids thing only. People really get into it with the costumes and do an amazing job.

If you don't dress up at all that's fine too, but if you want to go full pirate, go for it! pirate:

I'm going all out. Although I will be without one piece of my costume: neither Disney nor the TSA want anything to do with my 41" rapier. It's not sharp, but it's pointy and all metal. I still haven't figured out how to get around that. (Half tempted to cut off the hilt and screw it into the scabbard.)

Oh yeah, the cabanas are in very high demand. I'm not surprised that they were grabbed as soon as the initial platinum-level window opened up.

As for cabanas 16 and 21, I may be COMPLETELY WRONG here so please take this with a grain of salt.

I do know that at least one cabana is a special access cabana for guests with disabilities. It was once explained to me by a friend who's a platinum that they do not pre-book the ADA cabana(s?) unless whoever is making the reservation specifically has access issues. However, I seem to recall that they do eventually open that ADA cabana up either right before the cruise, or some very close window (like maybe once the ship sets sail).

Again, I may be wrong or be completely misremembering. I also thought they only had one such cabana, and I don't remember the cabana number.

Another possibility is that those two cabanas may be under rehab, too.

Please add twinsandagirl grandparents to the list.

Did anyone take the plunge for Presidents week 2014?
We had two dummy cruises waiting in the wings so I
went ahead and booked the DREAM for 2/16/14 a 4 night
and 2/20/14 a 3 night.
Figured make up my own little 7 nighter with 2 days at Castaway Cay.:teacher:

Me and the wife have planned excursions for GC and Cozumel and were thinking about Castaway Cay. But while looking at reviews and doing other research I noticed that it seems like a lot of cruisers just use the last cruise day at Castaway Cay as a relax on the beach possibly with your favorite beverage kind of day with not to many excursions. Am I wrong or am I right.
