Here a picture showing what's in our dessert box. That's a lot of food. We have 2 adult and 2 kids (6 and 4 years old). We pretty much have 2 full boxes to take back to the hotel even though we didn't have dinner and just had a late lunch that day. Adult is $60 and Child ages 3-9 is $50.
Just keep in mind that if you want to ensure you end up in the front row, you may be standing in line for two hours waiting to get your seating assignment.

You get the back (of 3) rows. It's not that bad. You can see just fine and you can stand to catch anything you might not be able to see. The first two rows can't.

I like either the first row or the back row in the seating area for the dessert buffet, so if you want to enjoy the parks and go later to turn in your tickets and get your seating assignments, you will be fine.
The three rows of seats are on flat ground (not tiered or sloped) so they are even with each other. Some may find it hard to see over the person in front of them if they are in the second row depending upon height, etc....
I don't know if this picture can give the idea of how the first row compared to the 2nd and 3rd rows. In my case, if we are in the 2nd row and by chance bigger people are in front of us, then no way that my kids can see. I also called and asked if my kids can stand on the chair if we are on the 3rd row, they said NO, so the 3rd row probably won't work for us either. If it's just adults, I would much prefer not getting in line 2 hrs early and just get the 3rd row and stand. Anyway, I think Disney should just assign the seats at the time of booking to eliminate all these troubles considering we are paying for it and it's not cheap either.
I had this worry about the f! Seating. I'm 5'3 and ended up in the second row. I was so worried when I arrived but I was able to see and the people in front even checked with me to be sure I could see, they were super nice.
I also agree though that seats should be assigned when booked. Disney knows people line up early for this. I'd even be willing to pay some sort of small additional fee to preselect my seat.
