If we don't care about the seats we get, and we arrive 1 hour before the show, do you think we'll get in?

We're going in May, but not during the busy times. The park closes at 9 that night.

What do you guys think? We don't want to do the dinner package or wait forever. How bad are the crowds usually for the show?

depends on how many shows they have that night. If it's just the one show, 1 hr might not cut it.

You can 'kind of' tell what is happening by watching the line forming and the amount of people walking up the ramp. The theatre holds a lot of people. I've gotten in even when the line wrapped down the ramp and into the 'street' between TOT, RandRoll and the little food court place. I'd say if you get in line (if there is one) at an hour before the show starts, that you will normally be fine...I'm also going in May and I just don't expect that huge a crown..tho one never knows!

If they have two shows on an EH at MGM...I think you'd have better luck at the late seating. I really only missed it once...and that was due to sheer greed for wanting to ride rocknrollercoaster one more time AND get an ice cream before the show after we deposited one member of our group in a wheelchair inside...and then left only to find we couldn't get back in. I think that was an anomaly and we should have better gaged the huge crowd that night.

If there is a late show, do that one. The line won't be very long and you shouldn't have to wait for a long time. Plus while people are watching the first show you can ride ToT and RocknRollerCoaster.

Depends on when you go. With the exception of the days around Memorial Day Weekend, you'll be fine at 45 minutes or so.
