Can someone explain the fantasmic dinner package?
Would you recommend it?
THANK YOU!

I do receommend it, especially if going during a busy time.

You chose between 3 restaurants: H&V, MM, and Brown Derby (2TS). You have to put a credit card down at the time of booking. It is just to confirm, but you shouldn't be charged (unless you don't cancel within 48 hours of the scheduled ADR. Then you are charged $10 a person for not showing up).

When you get to the restaurant, you will be given a ticket for Fantasmic. It tells you when you need to go to Oscar's (at the front of the park) to enter Fantasmic. You will be seated in a separate section from non package people.

ETA: Just to confirm, it IS available on the DDP.

Here is a link that explains it in detail...

Basically, you make reservations in one of three restaurants (H&V, Brown Derby, or Mama Melrose) and ask for the Fantasmic dining package. You will need to give a credit card # to hold your ressie. When you dine, they will give you a voucher that allows you to enter a reserved seating area for viewing the show that evening. The section is off-center and to the right of the stadium, but you don't have to wait in line...you enter through a separate entrance...

We do this everytime...I like not having to wait in line for the show. The seats are good seats and we would eat at the H&V anyway. My kids love this restaurant.

We love this package - it is really worth it to us... the no waiting in line is the best... and you have to eat after all here is what I found on all ears net.com

What is the Fantasmic! Dining Experience?
The Fantasmic! Dining Experience includes dinner at one of the participating Disney-MGM Studios restaurants and reserved seating in the Fantasmic! amphitheater.
This means that instead of waiting in line for 60-90 minutes outside the theater, you can walk right up to the theater 30-45 minutes before show time, (no waiting in line!) and still have a seat.
Is there a charge for the package?
There is no additional charge for the package itself. However, the package, which includes a fixed price dinner and the Fantasmic! seating pass, MUST be guaranteed at the time of booking with a credit card, and a $10 cancellation fee applies if not cancelled at least 48 hours beforehand.

Prices for the fixed price dinners are as follows:
Mama Melrose: Ages 10 and older $32.99 (plus tax and gratuity). You will be able to choose from the regular menu as of this date.
Adult meal includes appetizer, entree, dessert and non-specialty,non alcoholic beverage. Children must order from Children's Menu, and have a choice of soup or salad, entree, dessert and child's beverage.
All packages include a special pass for seating at that night's Fantasmic! and dinner at the restaurant chosen.
Report to your restaurant 10 minutes before your Fantasmic! Dining Experience Reservation, and you'll receive your special Fantasmic! seating pass at that time. Theme park admission is NOT included.
Can I Use the Magic Your Way Dining Plan with the Fantasmic Dining Experience?
Yes, as of September 2, 2005, the Magic Your Way Dining Plan can be used to purchase a Fantasmic Dining Experience. You can also get the Fantasmic Dining Experience if you have the Magic Your Way Premium Package or, starting in 2006, the Platinum Package.

Where is the reserved section?
The reserved section is all the way over on the right side of the theater - the Witch section. The amphitheater is set up so that there really are no *bad* seats, except you will get wet if you sit in the first few rows.
Where do I enter the theater?
Do NOT enter the Fantasmic! line that starts at the amphitheater's Sunset Boulevard entrance.
Present your Fantasmic! Dining Experience voucher 30 minutes prior to showtime at the Fantasmic! sign located on Hollywood Boulevard next to Oscar's Super Service (inside the turnstiles at the front of the park). Guests arriving less than 30 minutes prior to showtime will be offered standing room only, if available.

Depending on the time of year you are going (peak season vs. off season), it could be worth it.

I've done the package several times in (August, Sept, Oct, Nov and Dec) fear of a 'line' that I kept hearing about. Well, after years of eating at those 3 restaurants and wondering what it'd be like to eat where I want to and find my own seat, I went for it. I tried doing Fantasmic without the package last October and the previous August. To my surprise, there was NO line at one hour before (I entered the first time at one hour and the second time at 45 minutes before). The gates were opened and people were finding seats. I had the best seats ever; right in the middle, half way back and I got to eat at 50's Prime time.

I will no longer do the package if I'm there off season. I enjoy eating where I want to eat. Of course, if I'm there in peak season then I will do it again.

With the package you are guaranteed a seat up to 30 minutes before; after that they could and do open up that section to regular, non-package guests. My waitresses always told me its better to get there 45 minutes before the show.

Also, there is no guarantee if it rains. If it rains and they cancel Fantasmic, you are out of luck but at least you had a good meal.
