Fantasmic Dinner PKG do we really need it?

We have been to WDW many times and have done the Fantasmice Dinner PKG a few times on past visits and relaly enjoyed the restaurants. We are trying to keep the cost of dining down this time and are considering doing Fantasmic without the dinner pkg. How far in advance do you need to line up to get a seat similar to those with the package, seems that we were not in any really special location and there were still empty seats when we went in with the pkg group. We are there the week of Oct 12-21st. Any thoughts!

I think it is worth doing...of course my family is VERY impatient and would never stand in line that long...here is a link to read some reviews of it...maybe that would help.

I have never done the dinner package, we usually go in about 45 minutes before the show and have never had a problem getting a seat. We have sat in every section pretty much, and I must say, I don't think there's a bad seat in the house. If you just enjoy the experience of eating then going to the show, then do it, but if you really are trying to save money, it's not necessary. The ampitheater is HUGE, as long as you don't mind sitting for the 45 minutes (it's actually a nice break). They have kiosks all along the back where you can get a drink and something to eat to help pass the time. You could always just sit and count the money you saved by not doing the dinner package!

Thanks - I was just going to ask this question.
Magickndm - were you in a line outside of Fantasmic prior? Or did you just arrive about 45 prior and go in and sit down?
We did a dinner package once, and still sat in the theatre for 45 minutes waiting for the show.
We are going first week of October, and have a 5:30 PS at 50's PT. Just planned to walk over after dinner.

Yzma and Kronk, no we have never waited in a line before sitting down, I believe the theater opens an hour prior to the show starting. The time of year you are going should be light, tho people really come out of the woodwork for this show! Octobor is my favorite month to go. Have fun!
