Has anyone done this? Is it a good idea? Have to book now for our trip at the end of the month and wondered if it was worth it. We're planning on selecting Hollywood & Vine as our dinner option. Any input would be appreciated.:D

We have done Fantasmic twice- once w/ package once w/o. With the package is the way to go. We did the package last year with the 'old' set up. From what I understand they are testing a new Fantasmic Dinner Package until the end of Jan. Anyway, with the package you get a decent sit down meal and can enjoy the park a little longer while everyone else is heading over to Fantasmic 2+ hours b/4 show time. The seats we had were fine. They are not 'prime' seats but there were good. Even with the package you still want to get there a little early 45-30 minutes.

The upper most section is not seating but for standing :( you don't want to be there.

We hate long lines, so your comments helped. As long as they aren't awful seats then that's okay to avoid waiting for 2 plus hours to get in. Great!

We used it before as well and the seats were fine. We did enjoy only having to get there 1/2 hour before it started.

We did Hollywood and Vine for an early dinner and the buffet went over really well. Lots off good choices and many in our party raved about their salmon. I am not a seafood eater but I guess if you like salmon its awesome.

The food was very fresh and constantly replenished by cooks/workers standing by.

Our waitress was so-so however.

We did not use the dinner package, and had wonderful timing in getting in to see the show. We got there about 45 minutes before the show started. We got great seats, no where near the poles. We met wonderful people in front of us, from England, and great people behind us from Dayton.

There was no line to wait in and we got to sit on the end of the aisle. (That way we could run with the kids if someone had to go to the bathroom).

It is a wonderful show!!! Hope you enjoy it.

I would recommend the Fantasmic Dinner Package to almost anyone. We used this on our last trip to WDW ('01 :( ) and we were very happy with it.
We ate at Hollywood and Vine too and it was my favorite meal of our trip. Our experience was the same as Diane's - but WE had a good server! :)
It was nice saving an hour or so of NOT having to wait in the Fantasmic stadium.
Good Luck! :)

I know I will do it on our next vacation because we didn't make it in on any of our attempts on our last vacation. It's very disappointing to be able to hear it but not see it!:(

Someone else may be able to give you the specifics but from what DH told me the restaurants have a set menu for the dinner package. You have a choice of a few entrees instead of the whole menu. I haven't seen the choices so I can't comment on the variety. This was a test that was supposed to end Jan 31. We are going in March and are waiting to see what they do with the package befire we book anything.

We have done this twice. First time @ Momma Melrose's and the other at HBD. At MM's, your appetizer is a family sized flat bread. and your desert options were limited. I think there were two options but I can't remember. This was the only time I have eaten at MM's so I can't say how much the choices for entree were limited.

The second time was at the Hollywood Brown Derby. We eat there every trip so I am familiar with the menu. We were allowed to select any appetizer and any entree. There was only one choice for desert and that was a raspberry moose in a chocholate "cup".

This is probably a good deal, relatively speaking for Disney, if you are a big eater and aren't pickey. I personally do not like raspberries so I was disappointed in the desert.

We have done the Fantasmic Dinner Package when each adult was required to select a separate entree. This worked well for us since we always skip the appetizer, order individual entrees, and split a desert between the two adults. But for us, the way the package is structured now, there is just too much food for us.

Also, we have a now 2 year old and a 5 year old that are light eaters. Often we will order one child's menu item for the two of them to split and there is still food left over. But when we did the package at the HBD, we had to get a child's meal for each of the two children. For the children the FDP included an entree and a sundae. We ate after the 6:30 Fantasmic show and my 2 year old ate about half of his hotdog and fell asleep. We told our server not to bother bringing his sundae. So we spent $10.99 (I believe that was the price) for his hotdog under the new package. The regular price for a hotdog on HBD's menu is $4.99.

In essance, for our family, we spent a little over $100.00 for a dinner experience were we nomally spend under $70.00. So for us, it isn't a good deal. I would prefer that they go back to the old way and I have sent an e-mail to customer service to let them know that I feel that way.

Just got back from WDW , Christmas Holiday and used the package for H&V. It was great, the food was very good and the seats while not prime where fine.

I was not expecting much from dinner, we had always used MM for the Fantasmic package till they changed this year. Everybody in the family, found plenty of good , hot food to eat.
The kids 7&10 found plenty of dessert.

I used the Fantasmic Dining package (under the old system) the last two times I tried to see Fantasmic...

One time, I ate at the Hollywood Brown Derby--I had an excellant meal (they taylored a dish just for me!). Guess what happened at Fantasmic-?-immediately after the performance started, poor Mickey tripped and fell down and was hurt and they cancelled the whole show. You can imagine the disappointment of Fantastmic fans.....

Last time we tried to see Fantasmic was this past August, again under the old system (everyone had to order an entree). We ate at Mama Melroses and had a wonderful meal. Right after we sat down to eat, the heavens opened up and it started to rain.... and it rained.....and it rained... Disney's policy is they don't make a decision about cancelling the show until just before the show is scheduled to start. So, we waited until just before the show wa scheduled to start when they cancelled it (because of the lightning more so than the rain). We asked about coming back on another night with the preferred seating and we were told by guest services that there is no make up....So, while we were disappointed, it wasn't any big deal since we had to eat anyway.....

Now, the new package has been introduced. I did a comparision as to what the package costs versus what we ordered under the old system. I estimated that the new package would have cost us another $50.00 for the 3 of us and we would have had to pay for way more food than we could possibly eat. (I didn't realize that they held you to only certain menu choices on the new package, either) I also read that under the new system there is still no make-up if your show is cancelled for whatever reason. I think I would really be bummed out if that happened again-and I paid extra for it. (But, what are the chances of it happening 3 times in a row? :) ).

When we used the "New" Fantasmic Dinner Package in September we ate at MM's and went to the entrance beside Oscar's at just 30 minutes before the start. But it was just beginning to rain so we decided to wait. We were told that they would let us in when it stopped.

We went into Guest Services and were told we could wait out the rain inside or go to one of the shops to wait it out. We went to Syd's next door to browse. The rain just kept getting harder and harder. At about 8:55 they canceled the show. We went back to Guest Services and gave them our FDP pass and they asked if we could come back the next night. They gave us another FDP pass and we returned the next night to see the show.

I don't know if they did this because the FDP's were lighter or because it was a less busy time of the year or if it was because the system was new and they didn't want people to be disappointed because of the extra money spent on the package or maybe I just lucked out when the CM's saw the disappointment on my kids faces...and mine, too.

I will say this, my wife is a teacher and we are limited to the peak times of the year to go (well most of the time, this year was different) and starting in 2001 Disney would temporarily suspend the old FDP during the peak times. So we would have to stand in the line at the entrance to the amphitheatre, wait for the rope to drop and spend nearly two hours before the show waiting on the hard aluminum benches.

At least with the new system, we were able to avoid that hastle and continue doing the park things for an extra hour plus. For my family, having that available during the peak holiday seasons made it worth it.

Perhaps Disney should only do this new system during the holidays and spring break and go back to the old system when the crowds are lighter.

We did the package in November and we absolutely hated H&V and cannot recommend it to anyone. I thought the food was average, but our waitress was the worst. I also thought it was way overpriced for the food quality. Next time we upgrade to a better restaurant. I also thought the walk was really long as opposed to the front entrance.

I spoke with WDW Dining this morning and the new system has been extended to the end of February. It is nice not to have to line up around two hours prior to show time, but the expense is greater with this new system. I wish they would go back to the old system.

Thanks for all the input. Despite a few somewhat negative comments, the reduction in wait time seems worth it for us. I've gone ahead and booked a package. It will be the four of us (Me DH, DD (9) and DS (6)) plus my in-laws who are getting up there. This seems like it will be much more convenient all the way around. I really appreciate everyone's help!:Pinkbounc

We're just back last night.

We were going to book Fantasmic package from H&V. When we went to book it the CM said they hadn't been filling up and as long as we were there by 6:30 there shouldn't be a problem. She didn't think we needed to do it for the extra money.

When we got to H&V they gave us the Fantasmic ticket. We told them we didn't book the dinner package and out waiter said there was not additional charge for the package. The only difference was they added in a 15% gratuity.

When we got there at 6:30 using the package there were still plenty of seats on the left side of the stadium.
