Fans of Epcot American Adventure attraction?

it's a must do / see on all of our trips - the only thing that makes it even better is that it's dark because no one can see me crying during the montage - as others said - the montage does show the war - the rallys - and also problems like aids w/ryan white and i believe arthur ashe - but

my question is why doesn't anyone complain about the other countries representation in epcot - especially most of it is presented by those countries tourism agencies - does the china movie & presentations show their low points - or germany - or france - or japan - why is the aa being held up to a different standard - shouldn't it show the best of the us -

all of the presentations are meant to present each country to the world and who wouldn't want to see the great things that each country has - it's vacation time!

I agree. :thumbsup2

Does the China movie show government tanks running over peaceful, pro-democracy student protestors?

Does the France movie show the beheadings during the French Revolution?

Of course not. It would be absurd! It's equally absurd for that book's author to suggest that WDW is an appropriate place to air USA's dirty laundry.

Let's be clear. The OP's intent was not to bash America. In fact, she was pointing out a falsehood in the book. :thumbsup2 However the author of that particular book (that her DH was reading) has a political agenda 10 miles long. I hope WDW does not ever bow to that kind of pressure any more than has already been done in AA. :sad2:

WS should present a positive experience and the best aspects of each country's culture, period. For detailed history lessons and/or political propaganda, there are much better venues than a vacation theme park.

Yes, it makes me tear up and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I'm very proud of our country and concerned about what lies ahead for your children. As for addressing the Vietnam War, AA most certainly does. I lost many peers during those years, even some that made it home. And yes, it does address the race riots, too. Not in depth although I don't think I'd call it 'disneyfied". While a day at WDW can tire all of us out, I'm sorry for those who sleep through this show. I still find it a learning experience.

I LOVE the AA!!!! It's one of my to 5 attractions at WDW. There is no way they can include every single important event in American history, and I think they do a good job of addressing the biggest issues and still making it an uplifting show.

I think this is the important point. Even the "low" points of America's history are shown in a way that points out the "proud" American history points. Even 9-11 is emphasizing the firemen raising the flag over the ruins. Anyone who watches the film must know that it is to point out that there is a proud history to America. Other countries can "sugarcoat" and ignore their ugly parts of history, and so should we be able to. It's not intended to be American history 101 for the world. That's ridiculous and self-hating to ask that it be that. Oh well . . . some people just want to complain.

See the current finale montage for yourself at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3802ZBOAKb4

It's a dimly lit recording, but I can make out these: At +1:30, there is a speech by Martin Luther King and images of a civil rights march. Then at 2:18 there are images of soldiers in Vietnam followed by an image of the Vietnam War Memorial.

There may have been additional images before the 2007 update of the finale.
::yes::
There are images of those things and there were more images when it first opened.

When the show first opened, they had a lot less history to cover in the photo montage at the end. I think they did a great job - adding some things that happened in the years since the last update and taking some things out to make room for what they added. They hit a lot of important points (positive and negative) very quickly.
