We will be staying for a week at Pop. I am very nervous about how my DD2 will do since this will be her first time sleeping anywhere but home or grandparents. My biggest concern is that she HAS to have a fan to sleep. She likes the noise not the breeze. She will wake up the second I turn the fan off. Does any one have any suggestions - Can I ask the front desk if they have one available. We will be flying so packing one is not an option. HELP!!!

We know what you mean! Our first stop is Walgreens (24hr) to get a box fan (usually under $20.00) for nighttime operation in our room. We leave it for mousekeeping on the last day.

I'd check Office Max and Amazon, I think they have small fans and will deliever. Although I thought you could request a fan from the front desk. I'd call your resort and ask if that's possible.

We've got a fan fan in our family too. :rotfl2:

I've never heard of housekeeping having a fan available. You could ask, but to be safe, I'd suggest that you bring your own.

My kids were the SAME way when they were little.

My suggestion: go to Linens'n'Things before your trip, and buy a Homedics sound machine. They have a "white noise" setting that sounds like a fan.

They are cheap ($20), and will easily fit in your suitcase. You may even want to try it at home a week before your trip so your daughter is used to it.

It also blocks noise from outside the room, so EVERYONE will sleep better.

I've ordered fans from gardengrocer. They charge $15 for a box fan & delivered it along with my other items.

I would second the post that suggested a white noise machine. I have a travel one that is a combination alarm clock/noise machine that is very helpful in blocking out noise. In fact, one of the settings on it is actually Fan (although the white noise setting is a little louder so I usually use that one). However, I need the breeze of a fan to sleep, so I pack a fan too. I found a small box fan (less than 12 x 12 inches, and about 4 inches thick) at Walgreens that I pack in my suitcase wherever I'm traveling. It was only $10. There are a lot of really compact fans out there, so you may be able to find one that would pack OK for flying.

I too have to have a fan, but also white noise, so we fold up a piece of paper and Jamb it under the exhaust fan timing switch in the bathroom and leave the door open. This worked like a charm.

I purchased a personal desk fan on clearance at Walmart for $2.50. Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but it is small enough for me to pack in my luggage.

I agree with the small personal fan. My brother -in-law has one of these right next to his chair at my in-laws house. He's just hot all the time. It's very small and would easily pack. You could get your daughter used to the small fan at home before your trip.

My husband is kind of the same (and he's 47). He has to have the air conditioner or at least the fan going at night. He has to ahve that noise. He's fine at home but never in a hotel room. White noise machines are not an option for him. Gotta love him.

We just got back from POP & I took a small oscillating fan with us for noise as we both sleep with a ceiling fan @ home and knew they didn't have any at POP. Worked like a charm & also brought the temp in the room down quickly after a day in the park.

Agree entirely. I have a small one with foam blades (I know, doesn't sound very effective, but actually works great) that runs on battery or AC power. Packs very light, makes decent "fan noise" and adequate breeze (though not enough breeze for the entire family, probably). Got it at Walmart for under $10.

I'd call the resort and ask if they have any available. I thought I'd read on those boards that someone had gotten a fan from housekeeping. If not, then I'd get one of those small fans (7inch diameter) that have a clip on them. Walmart usually has them. That would be easy to pack and easy to use right near your daughter

You can rent a box fan from A Baby's Best Friend for $12 for a week. We did this on our last trip in Feb. and will rent it again for our trip in Dec. It works great for noise - my whole family uses a fan while sleeping!

DH and I use a white noise machine when we sleep. It is vey soothing and has the sound of a fan without the breeze. It is small enough to pack in a suitcase or to put in an overnight bag. We purchased ours through JC Penney online & it really drowns out any background noises (ie: kids running up & down the halls at ASMu or toilets flushing all night long!)
It costs around $50.00. We will be in WDW in 3 weeks and already have our extra one packed away. (We have an extra one handy in case the original one breasks!!) Hope this helps! :)

I love this thread!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought my family was the only weird ones who absolutely have to have a fan on at night. I almost feel normal now!

Welcometo the "fan" club!!! I work in a Radiology office of 15 women. About 11 of us are in the "fan" club with using either fans or white noise machines at night to sleep! We actually talk about it all of the time. We can't go anywhere w/ out the fan or machine. Dh and I used to use a fan but he didn't like the breeze. It made his throat sore. But for the past 7 years we have used the machine to sleep. It sounds just like a fan. I got my dad one for Christmas and he is now hooked, too! Don't worry-there are MANY of us out there. I have 2, just in case one breaks!! Going to WDW in 3 weeks and the second machine is already packed!

On our trip in April, we flew and took our box fan with us. We just packed it in its original box. We can't sleep without our fan either. It was really no problem and since we used Magical Express, they delivered it to our room.
Now in June, my DH and I stayed at the Beach Club and did not take our box fan. We called mousekeeping and asked for one. Originally, they said that they thought that they had gotten rid of all of them but they would check. The did end up bringing us one, but the housekeeper gave us the impression that they were getting rid of the box fans. She was suprised that they had one to give us.
