Fans in Rooms

My kids were the SAME way when they were little.

My suggestion: go to Linens'n'Things before your trip, and buy a Homedics sound machine. They have a "white noise" setting that sounds like a fan.

They are cheap ($20), and will easily fit in your suitcase. You may even want to try it at home a week before your trip so your daughter is used to it.

It also blocks noise from outside the room, so EVERYONE will sleep better.

I agree.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I am glad to hear that there are so many other members of the "fan club. I was afraid that people would tell me to just stop indulging my daughter - and to be honest- my DH and I use a fan at night too. I think I'll look into a white noise machine. We bought a CD that sounded like a vacuum cleaner when DD was an infant - before we discovered the amazing box fan. She was a very fussy (colic) baby and I was willing to do anything to get some sleep. I think the machine might just work - it's worth a try!! Cannot wait until our trip in January. First for DD and DH and I have not been since we were both around ten.

We went in July and me,my son and my sister cannot sleep without our fans for the breeze and the noise. We bought small breeze fans from Walmart and packed them in with our clothes along with a power strip and we brought them home with us when we where done. If you have room buy a small fan and bring it along, if not you can either buy one or have one shipped before you get there. As for shipping stuff at pop you can. We shipped a cooler so a fan should be no problem.

Start a fan swap if you buy a big one LOL

We'll be at the BWV Jan. 15 - 25. If anyone needs a fan on the 25th let me know.

This is one 'fan' club that I don't mind joining. My entire family has to have a fan to sleep by. Sometimes we have two fans going in our hotel room. One on my DH side of the room and one for our DD.:rotfl2: What can I say? Gotta love them.:)

You can rent a box fan from A Baby's Best Friend for $12 for a week. We did this on our last trip in Feb. and will rent it again for our trip in Dec. It works great for noise - my whole family uses a fan while sleeping!

We did the same thing! I had to rent a baby swing and a nursing pillow from them, and we got the fan also. I can't recommend this enough! We sleep in a bit and didn't want to hear doors slamming or people talking early in the morning! The company is great as well!

We will be staying for a week at Pop. I am very nervous about how my DD2 will do since this will be her first time sleeping anywhere but home or grandparents. My biggest concern is that she HAS to have a fan to sleep. She likes the noise not the breeze. She will wake up the second I turn the fan off. Does any one have any suggestions - Can I ask the front desk if they have one available. We will be flying so packing one is not an option. HELP!!!

I am the same way. I use a very large floor fan at home, not really convenient to drag that to a hotel. I bought a "sound machine" a while ago, it has a white noise feature that does the trick..Except when it runs out of batteries, which it did, Sept 21 while we were at PC. I couldn't sleep all night-literally-even had a coctail, but every noise woke me up. We even went to MNSSHP, and people were still making noise into the night. I swear the people around the back of us left their children and went to PI, because I heard young children giggling and laughing at about 3:00 a.m.-no adult voices at all!! Anyway, I went to the gift shop and bought batteries the next day-worth every penny of the $6.00 price tag:eek: .

I also have a small portable fan that I have used. And also the fan in the bathrooms work well. except they are on a timer, so you wake up when it turns off.

Just curious to the fan club.. Does anyone have tinninitus(sp) I do, and my Ear doctor says a lot of people with it can't sleep without a fan to combat the ringing in their ears. I thought that was interesting. My DH doesn't have it, he can sllep with or without the fan. Same with my kids, but they can sleep through anything.

While we're on the subject, why is it that people feel they can walk past a hotel door in the middle of the night and laugh and yell and carry on or even speak in a loud voice. I am totally aware that people are sleeping, am I the only one who uses their "inside" voice outside a hotel room??? I once had someone yell to another person directly in front of my door at 2:00am. I opened the door and said, "HEY!" and the guy said "sorry" and looked surprised?? Idiot..

I just read a thread that said Pop has put new radios in the rooms that have sound machines in them.

When our girls were younger and attended Church Camp and Mission Trips, we always packed a small personal fan for each of them. (About 8-10 inches in diameter as I recall)

They were the clip on type that they could put on their headboard, nightstand, or even on the bed frame. They loved the soothing sound and gentle breeze. We also provided them an extension cord to make sure they could reach the outlet.

Good Luck!

I called mouse keeping on 9/23 and asked if they had fans, and they said NO. The very next day they did put new alarm clocks in the rooms that have noise machines in them.

i can't sleep without white noise either. I purchased a "sleep sound" from Hammacher Schlemmer. It is more expensive than a fan, but it fits perfectly in my suitcase. I've had mine for about 15 years now and it still works perfectly. Sweet dreams!

I never thought about using a fan until I read this thread. It just dawned on me that DH and I have a floor fan in our room that has not been shut off since we first plugged it in! I have never been able to fall asleep in peace and quiet. In fact, I usually turn on the TV and put sitcom reruns on to help me fall asleep. :happytv: It is a phenonmenon I cannot explain. My mind just takes off on its own in the silence. I need something for my subconscious to "focus" on or my conscious mind starts conjuring up all kids of stuff. If I have reruns of "Golden Girls" or "Will & Grace" playing on the TV, I am asleep in about 10 minutes! It has to be a program that I have seen before so I don't actually watch it....it just plays in the background. Since I am not going to bring my wireless headphones, I think I need to start thinking about the fan thing!

Not all fans make lots of noise. get a white noise machine. Gives you a variety of sounds and is easy to pack and take with you. I ALWAYS have one. It also has voulume control. Good selection of them at BED and BATH

:cheer2: for the wonderful box fan
DH, DD and I are going in Dec.
DON'T FORGET THE FAN is at the top of the list!
We do not travel without it and often buy one at the end of the "fan season"
on clearance just in case it goes out during the "off season"!
we forgot it one trip and got out of bed at 2am and drove 40 min to the nearest 24hr walmart to buy one after having not slept a wink!
