Family Of 5 Is Cr Worth $855.00 More Than Por?

With our family of 5 we are trying to decide if the CR is worth the extra dough over the POR.

Last year we stayed at the POLY and loved it, we loved the room size especially the day bed for my 10 year old son. My husband has no resort loyalty and wants to try a new resort every year. The CR has the lowest prices for the deluxe hotels and the POR has the accomodations needed for a family of 5 at the lowest rate for an onsite hotel.

So, do you think I'll notice the room size difference going from the POLY to the POR? Is the CR worth the extra $855.00 over the POR?

I haven't stayed at CR since they upgraded the rooms, but we really enjoyed POR this past March. I was nervous because I have stayed at POFQ a few years back and really enjoyed it and I didn't know what to expect at POR. We stayed in the mansion part and it exceeded my expectations. The grounds are very pretty, the room is a good size and the beds are comfortable.

Unless you really want to stay at CR, $855 could really be put elsewhere in your vacation and you'd still have an awesome time.

I've been cruising the resorts board to help me decide on our next vacation too. Pondering over spending the extra money on the Poly because I really want to stay there!:3dglasses :surfweb:

Good luck!

I think it is well worth the money. You get queen beds instead of double. The day bed is much more a real bed than the trundle bed. You can walk to the MK. There are more food options. The rooms are much bigger and with 5 people that can be very handy. There are many other reasons as well, plus there are still threads here about bad transportation from POR. We hated the transportation when we stayed there, but it was a few years ago. But I still read some threads about the buses. At the CR you can walk to the MK and take the monorail to Epcot. And we have never had a bad experience with the bus to MGM or AK from there.

Have you though about the Family Suites at All Star Music?

DH and I stayed in a Family Suite at All Star Music ( a value resort) last Sept. (2006)

We really enjoyed the Queen size bed, the kitchenette with the microwave, having a sofa and cushioned chair to sit on and relax after a day at the parks before retiring for the evening.

I thought the pullouts very comfortable.

They are designed so the back cushion and seat cushion of the pullout support the pullout. There is no meatle bar to hurt the sleepers back.

All Star Music is my favorite Disney owned hotel.
It tends to be quietest of all of the values.
It also has a lot of nice landscaping.

I like the food court at All Star Music for a quick grab and go breakfast on the way to the parks.

I like the fact I can pay for a preferred location and know I will be close to the main pool. food court, and bus stop.

I enjoy the theming at All Star Music. I love seeing the children having fun getting squirted by Three Caballeros (Donald and friends) at the All Star Music pool.

BTW:

All Star Music just underwent a refurbishment of all of the rooms and was completed in June 2007.

All Star Music now has the privacy curtain which divides the sleeping area from the vainty area.

All Star Music is only value resort that has this curtain.

I am hoping when the All Star Sports rooms are refurbished between june this year (2007) and Feb. (2008) they will add the privacy curtains to the Sports rooms as well.

Here is a website with photos of the newly refurbished rooms at All Star Music.

Look at the Jazz Inn section with new posted:

Please see my info thread for more of the reasons why I enjoy All Star Music so much.

If you stayed in Tahiti, Tokeau or Rapa Nui those rooms are 475 sq ft, so you will definitely notice!

As Minnie61650 posted, even the older rooms at Poly and CR are much larger than POR so it is likely you'll feel cramped at first - and as another poster mentioned the trundle is a far cry from the daybed...nevertheless, if you want to save some money, you might get used to the room size after a couple of days and it might be tolerable.

We've stayed at Poly and CR Tower with five and I cannot imagine how families tolerate POR - but every family is different and if it was all we could afford we would have found a way to enjoy:)

You'll never know for sure without giving it a try - then you'll know for future trips if it is worth the savings for your family.

Good luck with the decision!

I would say that 100% the Contemporary is worth more then Por. So if you choose to stay at the Contemporary you won't regret it.

You will notice the difference in size of the rooms between the POLY and POR. I will tell you if you like the PLOY you most likely aslo like POR it is a very nice resort. The only rason I would stay in CR is to able to wlak to the MK. CR is Hotel style and although nice it is just cold feeling. If you like a resort and enjoy the grounds I would say stick with POR if you wnat to try another Deluxe CR is nice but a completly different experience than POLY. I have had many problem with buses at CR and POLY and none at POR. It would seem that in the Deluxes you are expected to use the altrenate ways of getting to the parks as well as spend most of your time at the parks they are near as with the MODS this is your only option (without a car at both) and the bus service is considerably more frequent.

I know we don't spend too much time in the room, but with 3 boys ages of 4/7/10 I'd like a little room to move around. I know that the POR would be o.k. if we tried it, we were at POP a couple years ago, although cramped, we made it work. ASMUSIC looks nice but, my dh liked the pictures of the CR over the pictures of the family suite. We don't want to do the cabin at FW because we are campers and we spend enough time in campgrounds throughout the rest of the year.

I was suprised to see that the YC/BC/BW rooms are only 380 sq. ft. That's just crazy when considering the cost. We were in Samoa our last trip at the POLY and loved it!

Thanks for all the advice!

Is CR worth it? You betcha!

We gave POR a chance twice a few years back. I regret to report that I'd stay at a motel 6 before going back to POR again.

CR is one of the hotels that Walt built. It's a terrific location that is well maintained with friendly CMs who will attempt your stay even more magical.

There is a big difference in room size. I'm not a fan of the Contemporary and honestly don't know what I'd do given that situation. If you like the CR and the $900 won't be a big hardship, do that.

Maybe you could look into WL or AKL? Those are usually cheaper than CR.
