On August 23, we embarked on an 11 day trip to POP. The cast of 4 included me, DH (both 29), DD-7 and DS-19 months.
Leading up to the trip, I pretty much just didn't feel like packing. I was excited to go, but we left when I was 8 weeks pregnant, so I was pretty much too busy being lazy, tired and nauseated. That cleared up really quickly by the end of day 1.
Our flight was smooth. Again spent 5 minutes panicking in the airport that we were going the wrong way to get to the ME because the walk was so long. Then DH remembered that we were standing by the same elevator we were at last year when we all had the same reaction and we continued on. The bus was fun for the kids even though we were all seated apart. Luckily, I was sitting next to a very friendly woman with DS in my lap, because most of what he was interested in was trying to pummel her with a giant foam finger.
We were all happy and after check-in at POP Century (which took about 15 seconds) and picking up our Citi mini double from Orlando Stroller Rentals, we happily took our little meal cards and went to the food court so that DD could watch TV. We were soon to find out was really the most exciting part of WDW for her... the rest of us were there to eat. For some reason, that POP waffle was one of the best things I ate the entire trip. DH had an omelette, which he wasn't too sure he was happy with, but we switched half way through so I could eat his potatoes anyways.
I think it was nearing noon, so we changed into our swim suits and jumped into the Hippy dippy pool about 10 minutes before the torrential downpour started. At this point the pools were closed and we didn't have a room yet, so we hopped on a bus and frolicked our way into the Magic Kingdom. We let the kids use their first snack credits for some ice cream with mickey ears and ran off to do our first couple rides, ending with the Haunted Mansion and we came out minutes before the parade passed by! We love this, because none of us really care if we have good spots, but we love to be strolling down a street and suddenly "oh gee, there are singing people floating by." I had to wonder how messed up the 1 year old's world view would be by the time we flew back home, with all the singing, dancing, parade floats and random TV characters surrounding him every day.
After the parade we hopped on the Monorail for EPCOT and our dinner at the Garden Grill. We were 45 minutes early but as I was asking how long the wait would be, the ticket to seat us popped out. DS loved the characters, and we ate all of everything they brought out. DD had about 5 rolls, DS was covered in macaroni, and I hadn't enjoyed food that much in at least a month! DH said the fish was great and found out it was Mahi Mahi, which he had never had before.
The crowds this day were pretty light, about what I remembered from last year. The weather felt nice and cool because of the rain earlier, and you could tell it had rained everywhere we went. We had originally planned to do Illuminations, but we were tired so we did a few quick rides and just headed "home" to bed. This led us to the first little snafu. POP luggage services was great! Everything we had was waiting for us. The problem was on my part. See, because I didn't feel like packing, our clothes were just awkward. No better way to describe it. I had a selection of shirts that didn't really fit, and definitely didn't belong with the 3 pairs of pants I packed. DD had a bunch of stuff she hated and some princess dresses- so she was about to spend the entire trip dressed as Belle or Minnie which was actually great for her.
Our room at POP was 8148- in the 90's, in the inner corner of the building. It's really close to the computer pool, very quiet, and would have been perfect if we had a car. Without the car, it was irritating to navigate the stroller because we often had to go around the parking lot rather than through it. The walk was *just* far enough to see our bus pull away as we were approaching it a few times.
WE HAD A TOWEL ANIMAL!!!! Last year we didn't get a single one, so a little towel doggie was super awesome to find, especially on our first day.
To Be continued later- I will probably do most of my writing at work.
Day 2- Animal Kingdom, GAD fastpasses and three TS meals.
Note: now that I read this, I will try to make future posts read less like a list...
