I have a family member who keeps files on everyone in the family. This family member also keeps copies of all e-mails. They also keep a talley of everytime you have turned down an invitation to visit this family member. This person has even made triplicates of all the files and even brought the files with them when they recently had a short stay in a nursing home. This family member also checks to see if other family members are online via instant message. If this person knows you are online and you don't bother to send an e-mail when they are online this person gets mad. Is this normal??? Anyone else have a person like this in their family???

I sure hope I don't.

No I don't and no it's NOT normal.

Sounds like you are though :)

Don't think this is normal:eek:

Oh MY! That is NUTS!!!

I thought that you meant health records, etc for each family member (which I also don't have on my computer).

I would not like that. I'd try to find a hobby for that person.

Sounds like she might have OCD, like my great aunt before she died. She kept all kinds of notes. She had a legal pad filled with times when the refrigerator fan (or whatever that is) would come on and go off.

Hmm... I keep e-mails, too. I used to keep all my letters, kind of like keeping a journal. Now no one writes, so I keep e-mails (only ones with any substance, and I have actually slacked off a bit). But, I never claimed to be normal.

LOL, Doc! I'm no psychiatrist, I don't think I can say if this is normal or not, but this behavior would make me nervous if it was someone in my family.

Oh, this is strange. It's hard to deal with these kind of people, especially if they are family and you don't want to hurt their feelings. I feel for you.

I don't think this is normal behavior. That being said, my grandmother keeps tracks of visits and can tell us the date we last appeared! I hate that! It makes me feel sad, guilty and mad.

Fortunately it doesn't sound like anyone in my family.

Does this person also record phone calls & get upset when you're on the phone & they don't recieve a call? I would confront them & let them know that you think it's a little excessive. If they aren't receptive, then I would probably get a different IM application or use a different name or go into invisibilty mode.

It sounds like this person needs to get a life, very strange behavior indeed.

snowball22 - maybe you and I are related!! My BIL is just like that; kind of destroyed any relationship we had with him and his family. Sad. :(

Thanks for all your insight. This person is in their 70's. They have been this way for quite a while. This person also thinks people are always stealing items from them. This past Christmas this person went on a rant saying that they had sent me all their family pictures and wanted them back. I said that I never received any pictures but if I had that I would gladly give them back. This person called me a liar and continued to harass me through the holidays. Luckily my father remembered that this person had put these pictures in a special location in their apartment. Sure enough they were located and I still to this day have never received an apology.
