Family, Friends, & Celebrities- A MAGICAL Birthday TR!!! *UPDATE*8/27! Final thoughts

After another early morning wake-up, there was reason to celebrate. Melody, Juliana, and I were going to goto Kona Cafe for breakfast! We were talking about it for days and Dave & Branda were getting more & more interested. I was able to change our ADR from 9:45 to 10 and add Dave, Branda, and the kids.

Our plan was to eat breakfast then go meet up with Melody's cousin and family and spend the day & evening with them. Melody ended up canceling with them because she still didn't feel great and didn't want to get the baby sick. We would be seeing them on Sunday for a birthday party anyways.

We headed over to Kona in separate cars because after breakfast Dave, Branda, and the kids were going to explore Epcot on their own. We arrived at 10 and got seated.

We were shown to our seat and started looking over our menus. Our waitress, Linda S, came over and started taking our orders. After she left to get the drinks, Mel mentioned to me that she was being rude. Both Dave and I though she was kinda funny with a very dry sense of humor. For those of you who have followed my PTRs and TRs before know I LOVE Kona for breakfast. It is a favorite of mine. Our food came and I snapped a couple pics.

Melody ordered the macadamia nut pancakes.

Juliana had the Mickey pancakes.

I ordered the infamous Tonga toast.

Last time at Kona I ordered the Big Kahuna which was great but the Tonga is my favorite. We also ordered the pressed pot and I ordered the Lilikoi juice. As the meal went on we asked our waitress for a few items. I really don't think we were being too demanding but she was getting ruder and ruder. Dave & I both had to tell Melody she was right- we couldn't deny she was rude with us. We didn't let it ruin our meal though. The food was great as always!

Well since Linda was being rude with us for no reason, I didn't mention that I never got my Lilikoi juice. She brought the bill without ever asking if we were all set. I was charged for the juice so I asked her to please remove it from the bill. Before I could hand her my Tables In Wonderland card she stormed off. When she came back with the updated bill, I told her I had the card. She had to do the bill again. She stormed off once again. At this point it was becoming comical. I'm not sure if this is her normal demeanor or if she was just having a horrible day, but we did witness her being very friendly with a couple sitting a few tables away from us. I donno. Anyways, she finally came back with the check and we paid our bill. We packed up the kids and started to leave the restaurant. She came running back to us and said we didn't leave her enough money. I asked to see the bill and what we gave her. She was holding the original bill without the TiW discount on it. We explained the situation and we didn't even get as much as a sorry from her. After she walked away from us, Dave & I just looked at each other and started laughing.

Our friends were going to head to Epcot and Melody, Juliana, and I checked out a few stores in the Poly.

After exploring for a bit we went back to house. Mel wasn't feeling all too well. We started doing some laundry and just some general cleaning. We were looking outside and watching the rain coming down. Sometimes as hard as it did on Thursday! Around 2:30 Melody and Juliana went to lay down and take a nap. I went on my computer for a while then I ended up taking a much needed nap myself on the couch until Dave, Branda, and the kids showed up at 4:30. They were soaked!!!

Mel & Ana woke up too and Melody said she felt better. We had to plan something for dinner. What should we do?

Coming up.. A dinner that wasn't planned. More Disney MAGIC!!!

What the heck of the world?!! REALLY, she ran after you?! You have lots more cool than I would've!!:rotfl2: For a second I was thinking she ran after you because you didn't leave enough tip but I'm sure since you were more than 6 she tacked on a gratuity she didn't deserve.

I have yet to partake of the famous Tonga toast and if I ever do I'm not going to even imagine how many grams of fat are in one of those badboys! :lmao: I've had lunch at Kona which was delish, maybe breakfast is in our future there.

Great update!

she was getting ruder and ruder...

Oh that's just so funny. Sad, but funny.

My DW would have been on her like crazy, and definitely would have demanded to speak with her lead. I on the other hand would have had to fight everything in me to just be rude right back, even though that definitely goes against that Disney training that was so ingrained in me all those years ago. She definitely wasn't following correct protocol, I'll say that. Bummer you didn't have quite the experience you might have liked, but at least you were able to laugh it off.

Unfortunately, with the Tables in Wonderland card an 18% gratuity is automatically added in. Believe me, I wouldn't of left anywhere near 18%. I think you can leave less with the card but you have to get a manager over and go through a process. I really didn't want any more drama. We were really just trying to enjoy ourselves.

As a wise man (or was it a woman:confused3) has told me, calories don't count once you step onto Disney property. :rotfl2:

I really need to eat lunch or dinner here... maybe even have some sushi. ::yes::

What is weird is that I am usually the one who goes nuts over this kind of thing. I must of been in a great mood or something because it didn't really phase me.

I'm sure she wasn't following any kind of protocol.. LOL

One good thing is that I get to tell a good story about it!

Aw, man, I'm so sorry you got Ms. Snooty Pants! But I'm laughing pretty hard that she has to go back like 3 times to get the bill straightened out. Sweet justice, it was!

I can only pray for such great drama on my own trip! Makes for a TR worth reading. ;):lmao:

I had a waiter chase after me and my friends once. He was a horrible waiter and was rude to us. We could see from the moment he saw us he was hating this table full of high school kids. We hemmed and hawed about the tip and I finally told my friends he doesn't deserve much! So we left him a couple of bucks for this rather large group. (Guess this is why they make it automatic for big groups now!)

I wish you had some wiggle room to adjust her tip, but I can understand just wanting to keep the mood light and move on. Good for you guys for being able to laugh it off.

Kona, one of my very favorites. Finally trying it for breakfast and finally trying the tonga toast on next trip in sept. :cool1:

In all of my trips to WDW, I've still never been to Kona. It's always on our to-do list, but we never seem to fit it in. After hearing people rave about the tonga toast, I found a recipe in one of my Disney cookbooks and tried it at home. I'm sure Disney does it much better, as my kind of tasted like feet. :confused3 Glad yours was good, though!

Ooo, I love unplanned parts of trips. I can't wait to see where you went for dinner.

Thanks for the tip on the stepsisters in MK, I didn't realize they sometimes do meets over there, so that's good to know. I've rarely seen them near the castle, but that's mostly during MNSSHP, not regular park hours.

Sounds like you had a great breakfast despite the rudeness. You know, I think every Disney trip has one "bad" meal whether it's bad service or bad food, and it was good that you could laugh about it. We had an experience at Coral Reef once where our waitress was just so clueless, it was like the filter between her brain and her mouth wasn't working. She said things that actually should have offended me, but didn't because I was so surprised by it and all I could think was, this is not a good way to earn a tip, my dear. :lmao: Anyway, long story short, they can't all be perfect, but we reacted much like yourselves, with amusement.
