Family, Friends, & Celebrities- A MAGICAL Birthday TR!!! *UPDATE*8/27! Final thoughts

It was 4:30 when we woke up from our naps. It felt good to get a little unscheduled sleep in. We had to figure out what to do for dinner. We haven't been to DTD on this trip so we figured that would be a good place to find something. I figured it wouldn't be all too busy with the rain still falling.

We started to get ready while our friends were trying to dry out. When we left the house about 6, the rain had stopped and the sun even popped out for a minute. We took separate cars in case Mel needed to come straight home after dinner. I punched in the address to DTD in my GPS and I didn't really pay attention to the way it was taking me. BAD MISTAKE.

It took me on I4 getting off at International Drive.. at 6pm on a Friday evening. There was a line of cars backed up for 2 miles trying to get off the highway at the International Drive exit. A 10 minute drive took 45 minutes. Not to mention the parking lot at DTD was packed to the gils. Dave found a spot before I did. I let out Mel & Juliana to walk over with our friends. I drove around for another 10 minutes before I found a parking spot.

Finally I parked and walked over to meet them in front of T-Rex. We thought this would be a good place to try but the wait was an hour and a half. We had to get the kids fed... it was close to 7. We strolled over to the West Side and decided to try out Bongos.

The menu sounded interesting and I was willing to eat anywhere. We were able to grab a drink from the bar then were quickly seated upstairs.

I ended up ordering the Enchilado de Camarones - sauteed tiger shrimp cooked in homemade garlic, white wine and olive oil in a creole sauce served with white rice and sweet plantains (thanks allears!)

DSC08625.jpg

It was good but I really was expecting something much spicier. I was thinking the creole sauce meant spicy? I donno.

Juliana had the kids pizza which she liked and I forgot what Mel had.

It was really great to be seated quickly and we had a nice meal. Since it was still semi-early, we had some time to walk around and check out the sights but not before the kids had to play the bongos.

We walked back towards Pleasure Island and the girls heard the chciken dance and showed us their great dance moves...

DSC08636.jpg

The balloon was grounded because it was breezy. It looks like it wants to break out of that net and fly!

DSC08637.jpg

The clouds were breaking up and it looked like we wouldn't get wet. We actually were able to see some stars.

When we crossed over the bridge from the West Side to Pleasure Island there was a MC getting people to do some line dances. We stopped and watched for few minutes. Then he called anyone who had a birthday in March or April to come up. Juliana (March) & Victoria (April) wanted to go and stand where the other birthday kids were. The MC walked down the line and asked where everyone was from then the DJ played a song and the birthday people had to do some kind of dance in front of the crowd.

Here he is asking the girls names..

DSC08639.jpg

And a mini clip of them doing their dance...

It was cute and the girls had fun doing their dance. We walked around Pleasure Island for a while then decided to call it a night. We wanted to get the kids to bed on the earlier side because we had another park day tomorrow. I stayed away from I4 and drove back on Disney property and we were at the house in 10 minutes.

The kids had quick baths and Juliana & Victoria had a 'sleep over'. Juliana ended up sleeping in Victoria's room.

DSC08643.jpg

We had the monitor hooked up and we could hear them talking about where we were going on Saturday. Juliana kept telling Victoria that we were going to see the big 'ball' It was really cute. They talked for a few minutes then they were out!

The kids were sleeping and I kept staring out at our pool that we weren't able to use for the week and I was getting really mad. Dave & I went out and shut off the heater breaker and messed with some of the settings. After it was running for 20 minutes I went out to feel the water in the hot tub and it was getting warmer! After another 20 minutes and it was very warm. Warm enough to go in. I told Melody & Branda that we were going in the hot tub and they laughed at us. Dave & I grabbed a few Coronas and jumped in. It was getting hotter & hotter.

DSC08646.jpg

Melody & Branda were just sitting there with their legs in. I told them to go get their suits on. This could be the only chance to use this thing. After some prodding- they agreed.

The girls stayed in for about an hour and Dave & I stayed in the hot tub till 1. It felt really good and I have no idea how we got it working. We had to call it a night if we wanted to wake up and make it to Epcot in the A.M.

Up next... Epcot & Every day can't be cheery.....

Sounds like a great "off" day. :thumbsup2

Glad you finally got to enjoy the hot tub! That would make me mad too... a perfectly good hot tub going to waste.

From the cliff-hanger you left there, it sounds like the next day was inspired by that waitress.

I'll be back to catch up after our trip! :cool2:

POO! I missed you on by about 3 minutes! Back to read the pages I missed overnight.
Well now you have a few more posts to read! ;)

Maybe because no one complains? :confused3
That's what I said! Now I'm thinking I should have complained... I really didn't want to deal with that though. :confused3

Sorry, I could have multi-quoted, but this way is ever so much fun! :lmao:
Hope you are having a great time!

You and I think very much alike- except, I'd have done it. ;):rotfl2: That is asking for the juice, and getting the check fixed again.
LOL That's rotten... and great! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2::rotfl2:
Trust me: ANY Waitress at all is going to be better than what I'm putting up with here. ;)
True... I can't wait till you have a horrible waitress. You have to remember this statement! :3dglasses

Sounds like a great "off" day. :thumbsup2
It was.. there could of been more action but I wanted my DW to make it through the next few days.

Glad you finally got to enjoy the hot tub! That would make me mad too... a perfectly good hot tub going to waste.
I have no idea what we did this night. We messed with it for a few days with no avail.

From the cliff-hanger you left there, it sounds like the next day was inspired by that waitress.
You might be right... LOLOL :rotfl2:

I'll be back to catch up after our trip! :cool2:
Friends of ours (DW & I) are driving down on Saturday to vacation in Florida and are planning to hit WDW for 2 or 3 days.

Have a great & safe trip!!!!!!!!! Cya when you get back! :wave2:

FINALLY! some hot tub action!! Doncha hate that you might have been able to fiddle with the settings earlier in the trip to get it to work?? AH well!

Bongos looked fun, and I totally get the "needing to get the kids fed NOW!" thing! We've had some major meltdowns before, and had to literally feed them crackers from the salad bar before. Yeah, generally, Cajun means spicy, but you have to remember, this is Disney. They are notorious for dumbing down the food, so it barely resembles anything ethnic whatsoever. Sad, really.

Cute dancing moves by the girls. They were having a ton of fun! I saw Mel even got some moves on. ;)

About a crappy waitress- you have my permission to remind me of this when I start ranting about it on my TR.

Hi Tim! Yes, a good game last night.... but I am just not loving how my beloved red sox have been playing. But at least they got a win last night. :goodvibes Red Sox/Yankee games are the best! My brother got my mom red sox tickets for her birthday/mothers day and he also got a ticket for me and my sister and we will be surprising her at the game next Friday. She is going to LOVE it..... My mom is the BIGGEST red sox fan I have ever met. We have never gone to a game just the family so I cant wait to see her face when she sees us!!!

We did have a cranky waiter at Kona..... So if you go back make sure you dont get him. I think his name was Walter:confused: I think on your next trip you should give the Wave a try instead!! :lovestruc It is SOOOOOO good!! The service was AWESOME too and then you can just walk to MK after. :goodvibes

HOORAY for getting that Hot Tub to work!!!!!!!!!!:yay::woohoo:
Have you ever gone to TREX? We went once and we will be going back this year. Myles loves it.... they have a build a dino (like build a bear) so of course that is all he has been talking about! They are not on the dining plan but not that expensive so it is a good out of pocket option!!

I loved the girls "sleep over" so cute. Our boys share a room and the other night I heard on the monitor "goodnight Cody, goodnight Zack" (they always pretend they are Zack and Cody from the SuiteLife :rotfl:) It was so cute....

Finally I parked and walked over to meet them in front of T-Rex. We thought this would be a good place to try but the wait was an hour and a half. We had to get the kids fed... it was close to 7. We strolled over to the West Side and decided to try out Bongos.

Bummer, we left DTD at about 6 that evening after our lunch and afternoon movie, headed back to our resort for dinner at Whispering Canyon. Finally we see how close our paths "almost were" at crossing. Perhaps if you hadn't followed the GPS so closely... :confused3 but of course, we were more on the "down low" anyway, since we were there for our anniversary with no schedule so we had no idea where we'd be, and then of course you and I weren't texting each other like you and Barry were. Oh well, maybe another time.

Cool, the hot tub, finally. Glad you got that working somewhat...even if it was so late in your trip.

Another great update :thumbsup2 Glad you finally got the hot tub to work! I guess there really is a little MacGyver in all of us! :lmao: Even if you admit to not knowing what you did to fix it. :rolleyes1 The intro for the next installment sounds daunting.....

We have hot tub success! I feel like your pictures should have been accompanied with the Hallelujah Chorus or something.

I have to admit though, I was hoping you would say that Chevy Chase came out and fixed the machine, and then it took you back in time to your high school days. But maybe I'm thinking of something else... :confused3

Not a bad night, once you got there. We took a GPS with us and it screwed us up once or twice also. It did it's job, but not with a human way of looking at things. Next time I think I'll just bring some maps.

I'm no expert, but the couple of times I've tried Cuban and Puerto Rican food I was surprised at how mild it was. I guess I assumed that Latin base would make it more similar to Mexican. :confused3

Glad you guys gave the hot tub ONE more try. That really stinks that it was being so temperamental, and that the rental co. didn't seem to care.

Yay for a great evening at DTD! I can't access the little video from work, but I wish I could have seen the kids dancing. I bet it was so cute.

What a cute little conversation the girls were having before bedtime. Gotta love that sweet innocence.

Yay! You got the hot tub fixed! :woohoo: You should totally send those guys a bill.

Can't wait to see what Epcot Day brings. Sounds ominous...

Yay....another update (after I went to bed...but an update nevertheless). We've never even considered Bongos. Is is some place we should put on the list for a future visit? The girls looked really cute with their "moves" on the little clip. And I love the "sleepover" picture...they look like they were having a really good time.

Wow what a great trip.

Gosh the girls look so cute after their BBB visit.

I'm glad you all got some hot tubbing in.

Sorry Mel wasn't feeling well on the trip.

Looks like MJ is having a fun vacation too.

Ok, I'm all caught up and ready to enjoy reading with everyone else.

FINALLY! some hot tub action!! Doncha hate that you might have been able to fiddle with the settings earlier in the trip to get it to work?? AH well!
I messed with those settings every day. Some how it decided to work Friday night.... better late than never. :confused3

Don't get me wrong the food was good... I was just expecting some spice to it. The fried plantains were really good though. :thumbsup2

Cute dancing moves by the girls. They were having a ton of fun! I saw Mel even got some moves on. ;)
I think Juliana wanted Mel to come out and dance... .so she joined in on the fun.

About a crappy waitress- you have my permission to remind me of this when I start ranting about it on my TR.
I give you permission to switch tables if you end up with Linda! :lmao:

Sounds like you have a great night in store with your mom! Make sure you bring your camera! I really need to get back up to Fenway soon.

We did have a cranky waiter at Kona..... So if you go back make sure you dont get him. I think his name was Walter:confused: I think on your next trip you should give the Wave a try instead!! :lovestruc It is SOOOOOO good!! I've heard a few good reviews of the Wave recently. I'll have to check it out someday.::yes::

HOORAY for getting that Hot Tub to work!!!!!!!!!!:yay::woohoo:
I know!!!! WHOOO HOOOO!
Have you ever gone to TREX? We went once and we will be going back this year. Myles loves it.... they have a build a dino (like build a bear) so of course that is all he has been talking about! They are not on the dining plan but not that expensive so it is a good out of pocket option!!
We have eaten there before.... I call it Rainforest Cafe with a dinosaur theme. :lmao::lmao:

The line always seems long.. I wish we could have gotten there earlier, we weren't going to wait an hour and a half to eat. :surfweb:

I loved the girls "sleep over" so cute. Our boys share a room and the other night I heard on the monitor "goodnight Cody, goodnight Zack" (they always pretend they are Zack and Cody from the SuiteLife :rotfl:) It was so cute....
That is funny!!!! Kids are so imaginative. :goodvibes

I'm going there to try the Tonga toasts!! :goodvibes
I hope you like it!!!!!

yay the hot tub is finally working! lol
I know!!! FINALLY! :woohoo::woohoo:

We just missed each other! I'm glad the rain decided to stop for the evening. DTD was pretty busy that night. I guess people were tired of being inside all day.

All good things (like a hot hot tub) must come to an end. :sad2:
Another great update :thumbsup2 Glad you finally got the hot tub to work! I guess there really is a little MacGyver in all of us! :lmao: Even if you admit to not knowing what you did to fix it. :rolleyes1 The intro for the next installment sounds daunting.....
It was more like MacGruber! LOL MacGruber SNL

We had no idea what we did... but hey, it worked!!!

We have hot tub success! I feel like your pictures should have been accompanied with the Hallelujah Chorus or something.
LOL I felt like I just accomplished something really big when I felt the warm water. Too bad you can't assign music to posts. :rolleyes1

I have to admit though, I was hoping you would say that Chevy Chase came out and fixed the machine, and then it took you back in time to your high school days. But maybe I'm thinking of something else... :confused3
Hummmm.... sounds like a great plot to a movie! Maybe you should patent that!!!

I haven't been to Bongos in years. Spicy food and I don't agree...
Ahhh It wasn't even close to spicy. I'm sure you could of handled it! :thumbsup2

Not a bad night, once you got there. We took a GPS with us and it screwed us up once or twice also. It did it's job, but not with a human way of looking at things. Next time I think I'll just bring some maps.
I should of known better... it was my fault and I take full responsibility!!! :thumbsup2 It was easier just to drive through Disney instead of messing with I4. :rolleyes1

I'm no expert, but the couple of times I've tried Cuban and Puerto Rican food I was surprised at how mild it was. I guess I assumed that Latin base would make it more similar to Mexican. :confused3
I guess it could of supposed to have been that mild... :confused3

I thought Cuban food was spicy though? :confused3:confused3

Glad you guys gave the hot tub ONE more try. That really stinks that it was being so temperamental, and that the rental co. didn't seem to care.
The rental company could of gave a <BEEP> It was nice to get it going for 1 day. :)

Yay for a great evening at DTD! I can't access the little video from work, but I wish I could have seen the kids dancing. I bet it was so cute.
Awww just picture them jumping around for 20 seconds.

What a cute little conversation the girls were having before bedtime. Gotta love that sweet innocence.
It was so cute. They only talked for a few minutes.. then they were out!

Yay! You got the hot tub fixed! :woohoo: You should totally send those guys a bill.
HAHA.... I wouldn't really call it fixed.. :rotfl:

Can't wait to see what Epcot Day brings. Sounds ominous...
YEP! :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Yay....another update (after I went to bed...but an update nevertheless). We've never even considered Bongos. Is is some place we should put on the list for a future visit? The girls looked really cute with their "moves" on the little clip. And I love the "sleepover" picture...they look like they were having a really good time.
I usually update when you are sleeping.. don't you know that by now? :rotfl2:

Ummm I think there are better restaurants to try before Bongos... I'd eat there again but I won't be rushing back.

The girls were having such fun! Too bad there was only 1 more full day left (of them together)

The girls loved their makeover. :lovestruc

Mel was feeling a little better on Friday.. the antibiotics were kicking in.

MJ didn't show himself on Friday.. He needed some alone time.:rotfl2:
