I was flipping through Family Circle magazine while waiting at the hair salon and I saw a slow cooker brisket recipe that caught my eye. I wanted to rip the page out but just couldn't. The magazine had Valentine's Cakes on the cover so I think it was from January or maybe early February? I remember some.....

2 sweet onions sliced and put on bottom of pot.
Place brisket on top.

Then there was some sauce to mix and pour over and I remember two ingredients were a can of cola and ketchup.

And I remember (I think) that is was an "A" state name...like Alabama Brisket or something.

Can anyone help or have a similar recipe or any good slow cooker brisket recipes?

Thanks.

It's Atlanta Brisket.

This is the recipe, made in the oven. You could easily just throw it all in the crockpot.

I looked it up on my iPad because I have Next Issue, which includes Family Circle. The recipe is similar, but not as many ingredients. Here's the Family Circle recipe:

2 sweet onions, sliced
1 beef brisket, about 3 lbs. trimmed
1packet dry onion soup mix
11/2 c. ketchup
1 12oz. can cola

Coat slow cooker with nonstick spray. Place onions in bottom. Season brisket with onion soup mix and place on top of onions. combine ketchup and cola and pour over brisket. Cover and cook on Low for 8 hours. Remove to cutting board and allow to cool for 10 minutes. Slice against the grain.

That's it! Thanks.

I wonder why the oven recipe has more ingredients than the slow cooker one.

This is why on their website...

We replaced artificial-tasting soup mix with our own blend of sautéed onions, onion and garlic powders, brown sugar, and dried thyme.

I'd like to try the easier one with the soup mix :)

Ah, that makes sense.

I think I'd like to try the easier one too. I always have soup mix, ketchup and cola in the house.

Just a hint for next time....when you are tempted to rip that recipe out of the magazine you are reading, grab your smartphone and snap a picture of it instead. :thumbsup2

OMG!! Take a pic. What a good idea. I feel like an idiot for not thinking of that.....lol.

:rotfl2: You should have seen my amazement the day I learned to take a screenshot while surfing the web on my phone. It was a huge revelation for me, and that and taking pictures of things like recipes, business cards, party invitations, etc has made my life so much easier!
