FamFab5 is Counting Down to May Land and Sea and Her SZ 8's!!!

Hi...it's me again.:surfweb: Updating my trusty and a bit outdated journal. I started SBD last year when I thought we were going to go to Disney at the end of August. Trip got canceled due to dh's work schedule and I lost my motivation. I lost my motivation not just because the trip was cancelled but also because the lbs were NOT coming off. I would gain/lose the same 7lbs for months then I just became frustrated and started eating whatever again.

We, as a family, eat healthy as a rule but eating healthy in large portions is still not going to work for me. Perhaps it is my age or my long family history of endocrine issues (haven't had myself checked yet for any of them) I need to be very, very careful with my portions, sugar and my carbs.

With that being said...I am starting back on a strict SBD WOE. We are leaving for our Land and Sea vacation in a little under four months. I don't think I am going to give myself a specific goal but it would be super if I could get back down to a size 8 before vacation. In order to do that, I would need to lose about 25lbs...YIKES!!!!:scared1: I did it before three years ago but I was 15 lbs thinner starting out than I am now.:sad2:

Oh, and I have thrown away my scale so I really have NO idea how much I weigh right now. I have a soon to be teenage daughter and I read an article about mothers and scale issues so...out it went. We never say the word "diet" in our house either. We do talk about healthy eating though. Dd is a pre-professional ballet dancer so is extra important not to introduce any weight related issues into the household. I am going to try and measure my weight strictly by how my clothes are fitting. I actually have a drawer full of size 12, 10 and 8 jeans so I can use them as a measuring tool!

I have been doing this WOE since shortly after New Years and my size 12's are a bit roomier but not by much...lol. I also am adding in at least 20 min of exercise a day which includes, walking on the treadmill, walking outside, Pilates, Yoga and weight training with hand weights. I need to TONE, TONE, TONE...I have become very jiggley!!!

That's all for now!!!

Here are my stats as of today...

Me-37
Wearing size 12...I will measure tomorrow and use that as a measuring tool, too!
Married 15 years to dh who could also lose 25 lbs:love:
Three children 12, 10 and 5:dance3:

Major victory today where my dh is concerned!!! I made us breakfast today...a scramble of brocolli, swiss and egg and my dh did NOT make himself toast to go with it!! It's a big deal he didn't eat bread because in his mind EVERYTHING is better with bread...lol. It is sooooo hard in the morning to smell yummy toast...LOVE IT...so it is so nice not to have to deal with that craving in the morning. Eventually, I will eat whole grain toast again but with so little time to get myself where I want to be before the cruise, I am going to have to wait awhile.

I am still sore from my 3.5 mile power walk on Monday. I must be really, really out of shape to be sooooo sore!!!:sad2:

I am going to do Pilates today with a friend so that will be good!

Have a happy day,

E.:sunny:

Welcome Back!:cool1:

You CAN accomplish your goal! You are off to a great start today by not having any toast... I know that was hard, but you did it and that is a VICTORY! Way to go for you and your DH!:woohoo: :woohoo:

Hope you have a great weekend!

~Tracy

Welcome back and great job on the power walk! :cool1: :cool1: Wonderful victory with DH and the toast. DH is sure that sandwiches cannot be eaten without chips :rotfl2: - any suggestions for that one?

toystoryduo- I think the whole toast thing is more of a comfort craving then really a "I'm hungry for it" sort of thing. There's the way homemade bread smells when it bakes or when bread is toasting that signals things in my brain and makes me feel all "homey" and cozy...silly I know. I make GREAT homemade bread,too...sigh... Thanks for checking out my journal, it certainly keeps me on task by writing it all down!!:)

CACruisin'- lol...your dh sounds alot like mine! Chips are essential when having a sandwhich. Dh is big on "go togethers" like Steak and Potatoes or Sandwiches and chips and the eggs with toast!;) I called dh today and it looks like he had a cheeseburger WITH fries for lunch so he pretty much cancelled out the not having toast thing!

I am pretty much on my own as far as this WOE. My dh likes his food and even though the Dr. at his physical said lose 30lbs, he's not ready to hear it. AND he can't understand why I would want to eat differently either when he says he thinks I look "great, fine, just right" even though I know I am technically overweight...frustrating. This happened last time but I need to remember how wonderful it felt not to worry about how tight my pants were and more importantly, how tight my bathing suit was. I felt great and that added to my enjoyment of our vacation.

Tonight, after the children are in bed, I am going to read through these journals since it's been so long that I've been on this board!

Thanks for the encouragement!!!!

Yup, DH is the same way. I have three skinny minnie kids that actually NEED to have fat. DH understands that I want to lose weight (and he does too), but doesn't want to make the sacrafices himself and doesn't understand that I don't have the willpower to "just not eat" the junk he brings in the house. That is why I really like WISH. I can come here for support or to vent, and I know it is ok.

Made it through the weekend which is typically my most difficult time with willpower. It helps that we've made the decision not to eat out till the vacation to save our pennies. Usually on the weekend we will get Chinese or pizza but I stuck to the eating plan and made meals at home.:thumbsup2

Sat. night we visited my Dad and his wife. They have a scale so just for the fun of it, I got on! I couldn't believe it but I actually weigh a bit less than I thought and it was late in the day, too! So I am really only 8lbs heavier than when I started last time in 2004.:yay: I feel so much more confident that I can actually get where I want to be by vacation!!

Oh! I've found a yummy treat...Blue Bunny Sweet Freedom Fudge Lites! Very, very good especially when you let them thaw a bit so they are creamier! I have one every night for a treat!:goodvibes

CACruisin'- my three children are the same way and they are HUNGRY all the time. They take after my dh who was OMG skinny till he hit middle-age. Sometimes it can get really frustrating to be feeding the children what feels like constantly and I have to watch what I eat ALL the time!!!!! That's why it is hands off my Fudge Pops even when they beg...lol.:cool2:

great job getting through the weekend.  And wonderful news on the scale too   That is always a great confidence booster.

Great job on getting through the weekend! Weekends are hard for me too...

That's great that you only have 8 pounds to lose! You CAN do it!:thumbsup2

toystoryduo- I WISH, WISH, WISH I had only 8lbs to lose... I am 8 lbs above where I was last time I started SBD and lost the extra weight the first time. To get where I would like to be which is approx. a size 8-140lbs I will need to lose 28lbs...YIKES!! Thanks for the encouragement, it really helps!

CACruisin'- Thank you for the encouragement, too!! I am so glad I was able to make it through the weekend. It seems like my pattern is doing really well during the week then failing with my choices on the weekend.

I really think the trip is keeping me on track. I can't wait!!!

Have a great day!!:wizard:

What a crazy, crazy week!!! Dh was out of town last week at a conference in Orlando of all places. (Caribe Royale) He called me every day to let me know it was in the 80's and which celebrity was the entertainment for the evening..."gee, thanks hun, let me put another load of laundry in and finish the dishes" grrrrr.:sad2: I told him that under NO circumstances was he to complain about the cost of our Land and Sea Vacation considering...lol. Actually, I don't really mind him going away for these because his job is mega high stress and he really comes back energized but by the end of the week, I am toast! :crazy2:

I stayed on plan and have really felt alot better. I remember now how great it is not to be hungry or have cravings. I really do feel better with out sugar and carbs but it CAN get monotonous after awhile so I found a treat for my evenings that has been helping. Sugar Free International Coffee Suisse Mocha. 2 carbs and only 31 calories...YIPPEE I give a little squirt of sugar free whipped cream and I am happy!!:cloud9:

It is a little disconcerting not knowing how much I am losing. A few friends have said it looks like I am but I'm not feeling it in my pants really. I think I will hunt down a scale this weekend. I just HAVE to know if what I am doing is making a dent in what I need to lose.:sad2:

My goal for the next week is to exercise every day. We are just a few days from our 100 day countdown to the trip so I am going to give myself the 100 day exercise challenge!! Someone told me once that you "diet to look good in clothes and exercise to look good naked!!!" I think that is really true!!

I think we are twins on opposite coasts :rotfl2: . DH has been gone all week too. And yes, by the time everyone is in bed, dishes, laundry, etc done, I'm :faint:

How exciting to be getting to 100 days on your trip. The 100 day exercise challenge sounds like a great idea. :cheer2:

I am really, really discouraged...I finally got on a scale and it says I've only lost 1lb since the last time I weighed myself over two weeks ago...UGGGGG! And I have been soooooo good. No sugar and VERY low carbs!!! Why won't it come off??!!! I want the metabolism I had when I was 20!!!!!:sad2:

Anywho, I haven't really been exercising and in the past I really didn't need to but alas, that WAS in the past. I start on the treadmill tomorrow...darn and blast...and Pilates in the evening. *sigh*

1 lb loss is a LOSS!! :cheer2:  Yes, aging stinks, no doubt about it! But, we can't change that. Get some exercise to rev up the metabolism and make sure you are eating enough calories. You don't want your body to go into starvation mode. :sad2: Hang in there!

I wanted to update my journal as we are exactly two weeks from our land and sea vacation. The past few months have flown by even though it was a long and brutal winter weather wise. It's just been the past few days that us far northeasterners have been able to get outside. Excercise had to be managed inside with a DVD or the treadmill. What I found was my body responds really well to the Pilates ball workouts. It really changed my whole shape which is awesome!!!

Altogether, I've lost 14 lbs and hoping for about 3 more before the trip!!:goodvibes I really had to fight for every lb though. I have been keeping my calories below 1200 and have been doing just a regular low cal, everything in moderation sort of thing. Nothing is off limit but I keep it below 1200. I also found I need to eat every few hours, for me, hunger pains are the kiss of death. I hate them and it derails all my efforts so if I eat often in small portions, I'm fine. :thumbsup2

So, now I don't need to worry so much about being in my bathing suit and I can relax a little. I've made peace with never having my 28 year old body back but I look pretty darn o.k. for a 38 year old mom of three....:hourglass

So...I think I will start packing...YIPPEE!!!:cool2:

I've really enjoyed reading your journals! I know what you mean about growing older and the metabolism slowing, and its especially tough being so busy and having to eat on the run so often. You've done a great job since starting!!

Thank you!! I think I have been in denial regarding how many candles are actually on my cake...lol. I really feel much younger than I am so when all of a sudden the grey hair started to appear and food went directly to my behind it was a bit of a shocker.

Congrats on the loss! Exercise and portion control really are the ultimate long term answers for me as well. When I actually do what I know I need to do, the weight comes off. Have a wonderful time on your Land & Sea!
