I plan to upgrade to moderate if they come out with free dining. Right now for our family (2 adults, 2 children - 1 counts as adult under dining & park tickets though), 8 days, 7 nights:

POP with no free dining = $2,812.03 + $70 fridge rental
CSR with no free dining = $3,376.01 + $0 fridge rental

Right now it will cost us an extra $493.98 (including fridge rental at pop) to stay at CSR. Which we would prefer for those queen beds. But are unsure we want to spend the extra money...

If free DP is offered at CSR, then it will only cost us $2,410.29 and no fridge rental to boot. It actually saves us $471.74 at that point than staying at POP! Assuming POP had no free dining that is.

Yes, if POP gets the free QS and we upgraded to the DP - POP would only cost us $2,140.31 (still cheaper CSR at $2,410.29). However since we were planning on staying whether free dining is offered or not - to us it means we only have to pay $269.98 to stay at CSR instead of the inital $493.98 - still a savings for us!

We have the DxDP for 14 days staying at POP for 2 Adults 1 Child.

August 16-30

For a total of 4428.16 w\o flight (but that doesnt matter in this case)

This is where i am asking for some expert help.

Say Free Dining is offered for the time we are there and its the same as it has been in the past.

Would it make more sense for us to upgrade to a Mod for the Free Fridge and Queen size beds??

And how much more would it cost us??

I am horrible at trying to figure this stuff out lol. So thanks for anyones help

If Basic FD is not offered for us po'folk who are just"scraping by" for the Sept./Hurricane Season,I think we'll just defer until 2013 when Fantasy Land update is finished.We have been to WDW for 7-10 nights for the past 4 years,and actually don't need to go this year.Basic Free Dining is part of what makes us repeat visitors-saves us MAJOR buckaroo's.As far as upgrading resorts and that,we sleep and shower in them,no need for anything else-although queen beds would be divine!!!

We always book what resort we want to stay in from the start. We have stayed in values, moderates and once a deluxe. I look for the discounts to save money, not to upgrade, but that is just me.

If the dining is the same for the values and the mods, the cost difference is the exact amount of the difference for the room. The mods start at $150/night. Most nights during that stay the values start at about $82 for standard rooms. So you would have 14 x $68 (150-82) = $952... Then weekend nights are a different rate, if you only have 13 nights is is just under $900... CSR is $5/night more than the other mods.

I would go to the disneyworld.com site and put in room only for the two resorts you are thinking of to get your actual cost. Essentially it is going to be around $900-$1000 to upgrade your resort for that long of a stay. A fridge swap would make your value fridge free, otherwise that will run you around $150. Is the bed worth ~$950ish to you? (~$800 with a rented fridge)?

Also- if you have DxDDP, do you really need the fridge? You aren't going to need the leftovers.

I have to agree...if FD is not offered we mine as well hold off until 2013. It is bad enough that TT will be gone so why bother my kids LOVE goofy's barnstormer and were looking forward to riding it at least 50 times They are a little upset it most likely will not be open.

True. I was just shooting numbers around to see if it would be worth it and i dont think an extra $1000 is worth it for a queen size bed

I believe CSR is the only mod with queen size beds the other two mods still have standard size beds.

Are people waiting for the free dining announcement before they make any ADRs? You can still make them and not have a reservation with Disney.

I agree that it will probably be a tiered system this year but there are some benefits to Disney offering those free upgrades too. We were upgraded from Pop to a 1 bedroom at SSR last year. We're renting DVC points this year

Ah, but the only 'benefit' to Disney in that case is (potentially) an additional Guest room available for another party wanting to book a vacation with the Free Dining promotion

Sure they would. See ShelleyLynn's post (# 126) for one example. Aside from that, though - you and the others with PINs have the advantage of already HAVING your vacations booked, of not returning to threads like this every fifteen minutes to see if anything's been announced yet. You also aren't going to have to sit on the phone for up to a couple of hours trying to get through to a CM the first day you're eligible - if, indeed, the next promotion IS free dining. Ditto for having the website repeatedly freeze up on you due to traffic.

I think that's only true for Guests at CSR.

Before the economic turndown, Quick Service DP did not exist. They created a new "tier" and will use it!!

Okayyyyyyyy... I just don't think the Quick Service Dining Plan was created in response to the economic downturn; at least not NEARLY as much as it was created in response to Guest 'demand'. Look how often people ask here if they can use table service credits for counter service meals - and this is a SMALL microcosm (no, not redundant ) of the Walt Disney World market base. Can you imagine how many people must ask the company - either directly or through Travel Agents in advance, or once they're onsite?

I am going to WDW October 3 and we have the DDP. We are going regardless of what the offer is. Free dining would be nice, but I hope that if the dates we are going are included that it isn't announced until after I can make my ADR's on April 6th! Wishful thinking on my part!

I'm pretty anxious on this one. I think there is going to be something soon too. When I called the other day I said something like "I realize you might not know, or be able to tell me, but I hope something is released soon in regards to special offers." The woman on the phone said "We have been talking about it, and you'll see something shortly." I got the impression the staff has been talking about it, obviously they don't make the deals lol.

You may not have to move to moderate if they offer QS for values just pay the difference in price. Not sure what would be cheaper though.

In response to staying at a value vs a mod if free dining is released and if it is tiered...

I checked last night on the price difference for my family and we would save $415 by staying at Value and upgrading to the basic dining plan. We are not a large family though..so it just depends on the size of your group. Definitely worth pricing out though!

Basic Dining Plan is $41.99/adult/night and $11.99/child 3-9/night
Quick Service Plan is $31.99/adult/night and $9.99/child 3-9/night
