Fall 2016 planning (continuation of 2016 Free Dining Watch)

You couldn't pay me to drive. Coming from NY it's about a 22hr drive straight through. I have made that trip dozens of times since I was a kid. (Not to DW, just to visit family for the summer).

Now that I'm a "big kid" and can pay for my own airfare I will NEVER make that drive again. Comparing the cost of taking my family of 4 driving vs. flying. It's a no-brainer. After gas, tolls, mileage on car (especially if your leasing), lack of sleep (which ruins your first day at DW), and the variables of car trouble and traffic I see no benefit to driving. Maybe if I lived in the southeast and could drive there in say, 8 hours or less I would consider it.

Just sayin'

You're not making me feel any better. :rotfl:
We're driving from Toronto. :crazy2:

I'm waiting on booking airfare...I feel like southwests flights are a little high and should go down in the next few weeks. Last year I flew from Long Island to Orlando for $99 each way! This year it's $172 down and $207 back!!! I love southwests refund policy though and DH and I have his cousins wedding in New Orleans in the fall so worst case if I book and it goes down I can use the credit towards the New Orleans flight! Ugh...at this point I don't even care I'm just so excited to get to see the mouse for the 3rd year in a row!!!

not yet, waiting for SW to release flights for our dates. Would prefer to fly Jet Blue out of Boston, but Providence and Manchester NH are doable too. Flew JB last trip from PVD, but now only am flight is 7AM, would have to get up at 4AM :-(.
Does JetBlue fly out of Manchester now?

Don't know where your flying from but $89 is a heck of a deal from anywhere! More pocket money for the parks!!!

By any chance did you book your flights on a Tuesday? I've heard that's the best day to book airfare because that's when airlines adjust prices based on availability. Just wondering if there is any truth to that.
Flying out of Pittsburgh. Actually I bought it Friday. Tuesday it was 112 or 123. I was checking it daily and forget which day was what. Swore I wasn't gonna check it on Friday but you know how that goes. I was shocked it dropped.

My sister drove a couple times from the middle of Wisconsin but her husband drives extensively for work and is used to the long trips. They usually stay overnight at a cheap hotel halfway. It's about a 24-hour trip. It's NBD to her so it's certainly doable.

We used to drive from Michigan every other year as a kid. In a conversion van, driving straight through to save money until we got to my grandparents tiinnnny modular home. With my family of 7 :O

Sucked, but it was Disney! Totally worth it

This thread is the best!
I agree. Where we live we can fly out of MPLS (Sun Country or Delta) or out of Milwaukee (Southwest). Before I buy tickets, I really want to know what the flight times/prices would be with SW. Glad to hear they will be coming out a little sooner. Of course I would prefer them now but I'll take what I can get!

The only time we went as a kid my parents put the 5 of us into my grandparents' motor home and drove from Milwaukee - absolutely worth it! :D

Same here! Waiting for Islip to Orlando in Dec. Come on June 2nd get here already!

I agree on the increased prices. I was pricing flights a couple of months ago and they were in the $112-$139 range and now I'm seeing $160+ each way. Did Sw just recently raise prices?
