Fall 2010 Dining Reviews - Updated 3/10

FTR - it was Grouper, not Halibut and tasted like butt. I give it no thumbs up, rather a: :crazy2: Ick!

It was super grody. Thankfully, I had that Cobb Salad. I can't rave about that thing enough. I love it! :lovestruc

And they're lucky that Grapefruit Cake was good **shake fist**. I think I ate maybe 2 bites of that stupid, raw grouper.

For some reason I keep on getting my fish messed up. I keep on thinking I had salmon at California Grill when it was snapper. Silly me.

I know a lot of the fish was still left on the plate even after they recooked it you didn't like it. It must have been very yucky.

Though I know you said you weren't hungry after the salad anyway. If I ever went there and paid OOP, I might just get the salad and nothing else.

Waaaaay back in the day, the Cobb Salad used to be an entree at HBD, and was absolutely plenty.

By the time the fish came, I was full anyways - and I needed to save room for the Grapefruit Cake, which was my primary reason for going there anyways. You used to be able to get that baby at Starring Rolls. You had to ask for it, but it was like an underground drug deal:

<looking around> "Can you get me some Grapefruit Cake?"
<whispering> "Sure.... stay right here...."

;)

I knew the grapefruit cake used to be available at Starring Rolls, I never got it there, but I never get past all the awesome pastries they have available there.

Brown Derby actually wasn't my first choice this year for the Fantasmic package, I originally wanted Mama Melrose's, but even calling exactly 180 days out, it was already full, so it was either Brown Derby or Hollywood and Vine.

I definatly have to try and do Mama Melrose's next year though, I haven't eaten there since 2006. Though I did have a lunch reservation there this trip, but it got canceled since I ended up going to a water park that day instead.

I like Mama Melrose's! I loved their Eggplant (something) I got, one year. But Danny didn't care for (whatever he got), so we haven't gone back.

I'll go there, next year. Danny can fend for himself. ;)

I really loved the chicken flatbread I had both times I ate there. They added a goat cheese ravioli to the menu that I wanted to try. I absolutly love goat cheese.

For dessert, which I actually didn't care about, but I wanted to give their cupcakes one more chance since they still look so good, I had the caramel dos leches cupcake.

This was much better then the cupcake I'd had last year, which had been extremely dry. This one was nice and moist in the center, though with the caramel filling and icing, it was just too sweet to eat all of it.

It gets an;

It LOOKS delicious!!! :worship:

Great reviews so far!

We went to the Brown Derby last year during our trip and I thought the quality had gone downhill quite a bit from our last trips. I had the roasted chicken and it was only alright. Not much flavor, but at least it was cooked though. We still have a reservation there for our next trip though. I must have that grapefruit cake!

OMG this looks delicious. I <3 <3 <3 bananas foster. I can't wait to pig out on desserts in a couple weeks when I head down.
The bananas foster was yummy. The cupcake, not so much, and actually, it wasn't so much not yummy as it was too sweet, and for a counter service dessert it was pretty good.

I'd keep the ADR. I had my "worst" meal at Brown Derby in 2007, and thought maybe it was downhill then, but I've had three or four really good meals since then. Just don't get the grouper - I think I had the grouper in 2007 too.

Finally caught up again - I guess I need to quit my day job to keep up with all the reviews I have subscribed to ....... :lmao:

The Contempo Cupcake looks yummy - we didn't see that when we ate there :confused3

And whilst I like the food selections at Sunshine Seasons, it is SO cold in there, that I always end up with cold food, even though we had the grilled veggie sandwich and that was REALLY cold, but real good! ;)

Your HBD review looks delish! :thumbsup2

I never was cold at Sunshine Seasons, I was freezing when I ate at Sci Fi though. And I think I need to quit my job to keep up with my reviews, lol! But the weekends are almost always much busier for me then the week, so hopefully, I can get back on track with these reviews and post an update tomorrow.

Yeah, I hate when that happens. You really can have too much of a good thing, even when it comes to sugary goodness!! :rotfl:

Yes, when I was little, I would've said there's no such thing as too much sugar, but now I find I can only eat very little of things that are overly sweet before I can't eat anymore. I had another cupcake later in the trip that was absolutly delicious, but I could only eat half.

Today I woke up and went to Animal Kingdom for the morning. I actually just missed rope drop, so got Fast Passes for the Safari, before going to see the first showing of the Festival of the Lion King. Camp Minnie-Mickey is a ghost town first thing in the morning, as everyone else in the park is making a rush to the rides, and there are many characters, I saw; Meeko, Pocahontas, Miss Bunny, Chip, Dale, Goofy, Donald, Mickey, and Minnie, with no wait to see any of them.

After the show, I headed to Africa, rode Kilimanjaro Safari, and then was ready for my lunch at Tusker House. For those of you who don't know Tusker House used to be a counter service restaurant, it then switched over to a table service buffet, including a character meal at breakfast, which I had been to a couple times before, and highly recommend, but this trip I wanted to try lunch.

As I had the first lunch time available, I was seated immediatly, and greeted by my server, who was very pleasant and funny. Every time I've eaten here the servers have always been exceptionally entertaining.

There was so much to choose from on the buffet, though I'm glad I ate here before I ate at Boma, because though was a good meal, Boma blew it out of the water.

I don't remember the actual names of most of this stuff, but there were pasta salads, cous cous salads, and an apple and blue cheese salad. I really liked the blue cheese salad, everything else was good, but it all tasted very similar, and I can't pick anything that was better then the rest. I'm not saying they were bland, they weren't, they were all just seasoned very similary. The fried plantain I did not like, but I've always been very picky when it comes to plantains. The green beans were good, I thought the hummus was very good. I loved the piece of salmon I had, and judging from how often it had to be replenished, a lot of other people did too.

The desserts were; chocolate cake with chocolate filling, which was good, but nothing special, bread pudding, which is the same as they serve at breakfast, it's so yummy, cherry-apple cobbler, which was all right, it had that canned pie filling taste to it, which it probably was, but I think I'm spoiled on home made pies, baklava, which was very good, chocolate-raspberry mousse, which was good, but a little bland, not a huge raspberry flavor, and a chocolate-pecan bar, which was good.

Overall I like Tusker House, but I'd probably only eat here again if I was with someone who absolutly did not want to leave the park to eat, otherwise I'd go to Boma, very similar, but much better. Breakfast here is the better choice.

Thanks for the update, we usually eat at Tusker House breakfast and we love it.
Can't wait to read more yummy reviews.popcorn::
